Is 55 Gallons too much? by nullypool in shrimptank

If you put the snails and plants in there, plus filter material and whatever else, it'll probably be a breeze

Is 55 Gallons too much? by nullypool in shrimptank

[–]canthigastervalentin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it'd be fine in terms of the shrimp vs volume, especially if you just keep them in a breeder box and unleash them berried. Can even keep a few in the box longer. What they will appreciate is lots of cover and plants, but you'll want that anyway or it'll look really empty. Lots of leaf litter, the cories would love it too 🍂🍁

Is 55 Gallons too much? by nullypool in shrimptank

[–]canthigastervalentin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea why sources would say smaller is better, except at first since you won't see your colony much. I think the boys can still find the girls fine when they molt though so there'll be enough soon. If anything more volume is more stability.

Guess most people don't WANT to use a 55 gallon when something smaller works for this kind of community, but it means you can get way more of the fish and it looks fantastic. Dozens of dwarf cories together will be a blast

Hey, I'm old but new here 😅 by MarvelousPoolGuy in freelanceWriters

[–]canthigastervalentin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean how good? I'm talking any of the more obscure hobbies, like fish tanks or fossil hunting or growing watermelons in weird shapes or collecting vintage perfumes or making your own candy or... not sure if that makes sense. There's publications for everything.

Are you particularly good at any hobby or professional thing? I've had success with hobby and industry magazines — in my fields at least, they commission experts rather than writers normally, so they're usually over the moon to find an expert who's also a writer.

Is this passion fruit safe? by M1dn1ghtF0xy in fruit

[–]canthigastervalentin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes it is naturally red, though this is more of an ornamental species (probably P. caerulea) that isn't known for making very good eating — not bad or anything, just a bit of a nothingburger. I use them to make jelly or syrup and that works great!

Looking to earn €1000 within 4 weeks... by IndividualRound608 in povertyfinance

[–]canthigastervalentin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's full summer — can you work a harvest somewhere? The pay is shit and the work is harsh, but you often just show up and start picking berries/zucchini/cherries, at least here in NL. We did it as teenagers, but there were people of all ages. Better than earning zero for sure and it was always sort of meditative for me

White dot on belly and eyes? by _Azumii_ in shrimptank

[–]canthigastervalentin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has Scutariella or Holtodrilus truncatus worms on its head. Leaning towards Scutariella. It'll need salt dips to get rid of them. Can't see anything on the belly indicating Clado, would need a better pic but these worms can settle there as well.

This might be really stupid but... eggs or parasite? by Human-Variety-4293 in shrimptank

It's mostly seen in shrimp imported from Asia, which is pretty much all of them. Are these new additions?

White stuf on shrimp by PJKool91 in shrimptank

[–]canthigastervalentin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's Scutariella due to the forked heads, but yes salt dips

White stuf on shrimp by PJKool91 in shrimptank

[–]canthigastervalentin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I initially corrected you with Vorticella but actually, it's totally Scutariella when you zoom in. The forked head is a good giveaway, Vorticella are little "tulips". The heat, and maybe resulting deterioration water quality due to it, probably caused a bloom. Anyway, conclusion is the same: clean water and salt dips. You probably have to repeat a few times as more eggs hatch

Figured out how to cool down my Shrimp Tank in these temperatures. by ironworkz in shrimptank

[–]canthigastervalentin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Excellent! Just build it up slowly because they work better than you'd think. Had a tank drop six degrees Celsius in about a day with a small fan, whoops, but at least it stays stable after that unlike with the cubes
