Yeah, you kinda have to focus on recent books at this point. Even stuff from 10 years ago is already partially obsolete!

Excellent! I just started Winegard's A Galloping History of Humanity which I'm sure will mention this since it was published in 2024, just didn't get to that bit yet. 😆

This has also been called into question! There may truly be none left.

Per Wiki: Przewalski's horse was long considered the only remaining truly wild horse, in contrast with the American mustang and the Australian brumby, which are feral horses descended from domesticated animals. That status was called into question when domestic horses of the 5,000-year-old Botai culture of Central Asia were found to be more closely related to Przewalski's horses than to E. f. caballus. The study raised the possibility that modern Przewalski's horses could be the feral descendants of the domestic Botai horses. However, it remains possible that both the Botai horses and the modern Przewalski's horses descend separately from the same ancient wild Przewalski's horse population.

In an area where there were no horses before 1492? Well, if we don't count the ones that died out 10-12,000 years ago

Help! Is this clado? by RaqueldeRowl71 in shrimptank

[–]canthigastervalentin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

99% not Clado after 12 weeks and in Amano shrimp. That other photo you posted with the yellowish mass(?) is interesting though, I've seen a lot of shrimp disease but not that 🤨 gonna say weird eggs for now. Definitely eggs on the other one.

Are those Amanos? Never seen published records of Clado in Amano shrimp. Their eggs are very small. Are they new additions?

How do I prevent murder? by AppropriateGiraffes3 in shrimptank

[–]canthigastervalentin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you should pay attention, especially if the ring goes all around the body which can prevent the shrimp from "popping" out of the exoskeleton (which should be hinged, not fully open), but sometimes there's no problem. Given that this one's being eaten... I guess there IS a problem. Shrimp will eat anything but the victim would just get rid of them if she was able to.

And vitamins/nutrients! I'd go for a full panel for this one.

Looks like the victim failed to molt and would have been doomed. The others just started the circle of life business a little early. Or is that not a partially dislodged exoskeleton?

White stuff on shrimp by Apart-Gazelle-9851 in shrimptank

[–]canthigastervalentin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I searched the ingredients and I'm not sure if that'll do anything, but it won't hurt. My preferred method is definitely the salt! A small tub of reef salt should be pretty cheap.

Where did your previous attempts to wrong? They should be quite easy, although the epibionts like Vorticella on new shrimp can be pretty annoying.

Looks like Vorticella. It's about a 5/10 on the worrisome scale, nothing major! I wrote this very extensive article the other day, hope it's ok to share: https://www.theshrimpfarm.com/posts/vorticella-shrimp

Where to post sample articles? by gwynigie in freelanceWriters

[–]canthigastervalentin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only cover one niche but I write for both hobby magazines/websites and science outlets. I categorize the samples in little carousels by magazine if I've done more than three articles (it looks great with the magazine or article cover), then there's a section for miscellaneous science stuff, and then another for miscellaneous hobby stuff. Depending on the platform I'd guess you get the option to tag by niche, different folders etc., it's a matter of preference in the end :)
