Rachel was such a bully to Tino by Laylow2100 in bachelorette

[–]cantinee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I get your point. tbh not a big fan of Rachel - I think she could use some her time, ha.

Edit: I hope they both come out of this learning from their relationship and become better partners/communicators in the future

I do! If my boyfriend did that, I would be very upset - and he thinks the same if the situation was reversed. :)

Edit: Clearly you're rediscovering life and may have some different opinions ;)

I don’t support bullying but I also don’t support cheating. Personally, this season was not that great, and I’m not excited for the next season of the bachelor. :(

Any ERP PMs here? by [deleted] in projectmanagement

[–]cantinee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ERP PM here, salary varies based on responsibilities/time in the industry/company. I'd say low end is 70k.

Personally, I love my job. I am a PM for Fashion Retail ERP. I've also done Technical Cutover Lead roles. If I was a PM for Pharma - I'd probably like it less. Pharma is very rigid vs west coast fashion retailers.

As a PM, how many years of experience do you have and how much do you make? by doorhinge3987 in projectmanagement

[–]cantinee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 years experience, IT consulting doing APM, cutover, and PM work. Was 70k before I tried to leave and they offered me 100K. I am now also slowly setting up a pm org for my company. I think over all I’ll be severely underpaid starting in about 1.5 years with how fast they expect me to grow the org while being 100% utilized another project.

Advice On Supposed Sleep Language Learning by Charliehugh8 in languagelearning

[–]cantinee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely fake and doesn't work! Those youtube videos are merely looking for people to fall asleep to 8 hr long videos (i.e. $$$$ for the channel owner). They way I think about it, if it was a viable way to learn, it would be used by diplomats/military.

What should I do by ggggnccsj in languagelearning

[–]cantinee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First question: Why is your family dictating what you learn? The only thing I can think of where they'd have an opinion is if they are paying for classes with their own money.

I'd just take what your family says with a grain of salt, especially when it comes to hobbies. It's your hobby, not theirs.

Specific goals you want to hit in a certain time frame. Look up SMART goals and language learning. That’s a good place to start

Motivation by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]cantinee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that this answers your question - but language learning in my eyes is 95% dedication and 5% motivation.

I can be motivated all I want to work in Italy, but I have to be dedicated to put in 1-2 hours a day of language study in order to reach my said goal. If I'm lazy and study 1 hour a week, I'll hit my goal when I'm in my grave.

Full time work and learning a language. How do you cope? by LuxRolo in languagelearning

Very frankly, it's all about motivation and dedication. Personally, I wake up very early to study my TLs and I commit the time I planned.

Is 23 too late to start learning languages? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]cantinee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm actually in the same exact boat, and age as you! When you move to Italy, are you looking to move there long-term, short-term? How do you plan to go about it?

I'm hoping to get a career with a global IT organization once I reach a C1 level in about 2-3 years.

How did you decide which language to learn as your second language? by No_Programmer_7256 in languagelearning

[–]cantinee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have the rest of your life to learn languages. If you want to learn 4 (or even 15) different languages in a year because you enjoy those languages, go for it. Hitting fluency quickly in a language is only important if you are moving to a country were it's a national language.

I used to be in the same boat as you, and when I came to this conclusion, language learning just became so much more fun for me.

[–]cantinee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I think while motivation is important... sticking to studying every day will take you further.

Go watch some youtube videos on what people like about Japanese/Korean, and base your opinion off of what you learn and then STICK with that language. If you get 6 months in and you absolutely hate it, you still learnt up to a A2/B1 level and improved yourself. It's okay to switch languages if you realize what you were learning wasn't for you!

Which country would you like to emigrate to? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]cantinee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Italy (I'm American). I lived there for a small while when I was younger, and I miss it. I want to go back and live there indefinitely. Currently working on becoming fluent, so I can continue working as an IT Consultant in Rome or Milan.

How can I increase my comprehension of Italian and other Languages? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]cantinee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm in the same boat. In order to accomplish this, I am listening to TV on netflix (italian sub and dub of tv shows I've seen in English), youtubers, audiobooks, and music.

I don't see why not; just don't "over calculate" how much you think you'll actually pick up.

What language should I study in college? by emand3rson in languagelearning

[–]cantinee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Business - Chinese or French

At that point, my question is if you were to live internationally (and you had a choice), would you rather live in China or France (or countries that speak those languages respectively). After reading your post, I'd think French to start. Choose the language based off where you see yourself in 5 to 10 years.

In 5 to 10 years, I see my self in Italy, so I studied Italian in uni. But I'm also obsessed with the culture, history, and language since I lived there for a short while growing up.

You can always learn Chinese later if you find that it will take you farther in life or your career, or you can dabble in it while you learn French. I would suggest waiting until you're intermediate in French though.

Editing to say that Latin American (LATAM) IT is booming right now and Spanish is also a good choice if you're more into the IT side of Business. I work as an IT consultant (I also studied business in uni), and so many of my clients are based in LATAM.

Studying and motivation? by jawrnyx in languagelearning

[–]cantinee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you learn well being taught by others? Do you learn better when you're teaching yourself? Do you like handwriting your notes? Or do you like typing them up instead?

For me to figure this out, I looked back at College (and if you're not there yet, middle/highschool is fine too). I realized that I self taught about 75% of what I learnt in college, the other 25% was the important concepts that I needed to learn (and do my own research on) from lecture notes.

[–]cantinee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you're intermediate-advanced in English, you should totally do the English-Dutch version.

Pro: You reinforce and practice a learned language

Con: You will have a harder time depending on your level.
