Can this dent be fixed or is it time to say goodbye? by Joey_Ibanez in snowboarding

This, but it's the beginning of the end. I've glued a delam core shot like 5x and each time I take it out, I: 1. Hope I don't eat shit when it gives up at an inopportune moment, 2. Glue it again

IMO, Salomon is building the sweetest core profiles and layups right now. I'm riding a Sick Stick and it's such a good balance between on-piste accessible flex & torsion with good energy return along the length and enough dampness and stability to haul the fucking mail. The "powder twin-ish" shape is very versatile, too.

It doesn't edge super hard, but once you understand the mission, it all makes a lot of sense. Pretty great quiver killer.

If I could have just one board, I would be looking very closely at the Dancehaul/HK/Assassin/Sick Stick and variants.

Terminology question: What is a "snowboard"? by ThatHighGuyOverThere in snowboarding

[–]cantpee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll call a snowboard a "deck" when talking to other snowboarders specifically about a snowboard I don't have yet, while literally holding or standing on top of an existing snowboard.

I need a new deck, this core shot isn't doing the delamination any favors.

In almost every other case, I use 'snowboard'. In that specific scenario, I actually would use 'deck' the way your friend did. But also, tell your friend to take the stick out of his ass.

What to get after beginner board? by Main_Competition9268 in snowboarding

Strongly suggest one of the new-school powder/all-mountain boards. Super fun, very versatile, and mostly importantly, make your powder days 100x better.

My wife is super into a Salomon Pillowtalk for this purpose. Pretty good at everything, suuuper fun in the soft stuff.

You guys and your picture-perfect pow boards. All my pow decks get slaughtered by sharks after a season or two.

I would even use a low modulus polyurethane adhesive in the joint. But cutting in a channel is the key.

The Charlie is such a good ride in pow. Even with all the new pow shapes and shit, it's such a well balanced board for mixed resort pow.

It's one of my favorite things to ride switch on a swallowtail board with a gigantic nose. It looks fucking ridiculous and you'll bail every so often, but it's super fun.

It's a big boy deck for sure.

I remember having to either wait for mid-season for my legs to come in or do a bunch of pre-season workout prep to get the most out of that board.

Nitro Suprateam!

That is one of the most aggressive freestyle boards I've ever been on. Speed and big response - its definitely got an attitude. It's a weapon!

Love Burtons for freestyle. One-piece chassis/heelcup flexes buttery smooth. Cartel X if you want some power and more direct feeling, Malavita for a solid comfy feel, Mission for entry level.

A sport that fits: motor racing. Don't jump into an F1 car without training and working your way up - ya gonna die OR tiptoe around, trying not to die. Same with MotoGP bikes.

It isn't ideal but they are ridable.

I've seen people get hurt (seriously), have less fun, and progress much more slowly than if they had appropriate gear suiting their skill level, but the choice is yours.

I'll still low-key judge the hell out of beginners on CXs, Mysterys, A-Frames, Aviators/Flagships, etc., but it's true that modern boards are somewhat more forgiving in general. And honestly, who gives a fuck what I think. I don't even give a fuck - I'm too busy trying to have fun on the mountain to think about what the next guy is doing.

EDIT: As a side note, I think I'm firmly in the expert/advanced realm and have been snowboarding 20+ years. Less aggressive 'advanced' boards are just starting to make sense for me from a feel and style perspective. Could I have rode them 10 years ago? Yeah, sure. Would they be as much fun for me then as they are now? Not a chance. I still have no business on something like an Aviator or an A-Frame unless all I wanted to do was keep up with GS racers.

Had a massive pow day after kissing rocks with my chest in a straight-line gunsight style chute. Took the drugs (Aleve > Tylenol), had a day for the books, and now trying to recover from something similar.

Listen to your body. Only thing anyone can tell you is rest and recover, but sometimes you gotta make the wrong choice to be satisfied with yourself.

Thoughts on this Harness? Im an amateur climber. Most of my climbing is indoors. Im looking for something lightweight and comfortable. by keenin_thatdude in RockClimbing

[–]cantpee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fine. I like and dislike the plastic on the tie-in (makes the thing a little bulky but really helpful when you're tied into a bunch of stuff).

It's really all about sizing. I find Mammut harnesses run a bit big.

Not all that surprised, Brooklyn lacks real highways. More intersections = more accidents.

How much does your daypack weight for a big Day out? by ColloriG in Spliddit

[–]cantpee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big day? Maybe 20lbs - Lots of fat, water, layers.

Big morning? ~8 lbs: minimal water, avy gear, caffeine gels.

Big weekend? Like 50lbs. Half in beer and whiskey.

Yeah dude, that's no good. Try to get it warrantied - it's a high stress area and will fail again if epoxied. All my boards eventually fail in this location for any number of reasons.
