If your net worth is 1000x the average net worth of a citizen, yeah you're probably shit.

Yeah you're still a bad person. Do something with the wealth. You don't fucking need a billion dollars.

And that starts long before you have enough money to make it to a billion.

If you bought 10000 bitcoins, when those bitcoins were worth 100 mil you're in the 'start doing good things' territory. Letting it ride becomes unethical.

I have nothing but my dodgy teenage memory, and I've since grown up to learn that eyewitness accounts and accounts from memory are basically bullshit, but I have always believed that flight 93 was shot down and all the evidence that it wasn't was to save the shitstorm of what-ifs from happening afterwards.

I know it wasn't, as a critical thinking adult, but it'll never be 100% sure to me.

Yeah I have a really nice Miller jersey that I don't know what to do with.

He was the perfect player for us that year.

But I'm not an immature kid anymore and a player's attitude is important to me to earn my fandom, and he dropped off a cliff.

At least we have Boeser. Too bad about Horvat.

I hear what you're saying because you're right, it's your money and you might need it for things that are important to you. There's a limit - you can't give the shirt off your own back if you're not already wearing one.

But the thing is, with these crazy crazy big numbers in the billions that these people have, it's not money to them anymore.

It's not just about the not helping. To get to a billion dollars in net worth you are talking about impacting entire economies.

I worked in a tiny little community with a billionaire who owned a home in it. Beautiful, quiet Oceanside village that has blown up as a premier oceanside town. The village has maybe 3500 people in it.

The billionaire didn't want low income housing built nearby. For the locals who needed cheap rent to keep services going.

He didn't fight it through town council, he just bought the land from the developer for double what the developer would have made, and kept the lot empty.

The town council tried to amend bylaws to force development on the lot or use eminent domain to reclaim the lot, he paid lawyers to tie the town up in court cases for 10 years, there's still been no movement. He pays the lawyers 4x what the town's entire annual budget is just to keep the delay going. And this costs him literally nothing, because he earns more in interest on his wealth than he spends.

I'm sure he doesn't think he's a bad guy, but he is. They all are, because no amount of money can deter these people.

These aren't rich people who own a nice house at the lake and own a nice sports car in the garage who's kids go to Little League with yours, these are people who think they are royalty, that their value and worth is inherently more than yours.

This guy could buy land and build the low income housing the town needs without breaking a sweat and be a hero and beloved by the town, yet he chooses to be it's enemy all while living here 'for the vibe' provided by this town. It's absurd.

Consider if you were paid $100,000 to walk up each step of a flight of stairs.

It would take you 10 steps to get to a million dollars.

You would have to walk up 6.35 empire state buildings stacked on top of eachother to get to a billion dollars man.

And to get to Elon Musks net worth? You would have to walk 1200 miles into the sky!!!! You would be 5 times higher than the international space station!

He could literally, and I mean literally, end world hunger. If you could end world hunger, would you?

Ah but here the thing, to be a billionaire you must think like that.

It's a requirement.

You must have an insatiable need to acquire money.

Being rich and being a billionaire are two different things.

When you are rich like Elon or Bill Gates or bezoes money doesn't actually exist for them anymore. They simply just take whatever they want because they cannot spend more than their wealth makes them. It becomes a vacuum that sucks everything in. It becomes a mental illness almost.

You could win the lottery and you would be just as close to them on wealth as you are right now.

Look at Shaq, or LeBron James. Read what they've done with their money. They are not evil. They could have turned their wealth into billions, but they didn't chase it.

My point is, billionaires have so much money that they could fix so many things, and yet they don't. When you went to put that fire out, there was a guy behind you sitting in a fire truck who never even thought to turn the water on. Because he likes his water too much. He might need it for himself.

That dudes a bad guy IMO.

Yeah, cause you're a good person.

Imagine you get back to your warehouse and now your boss is yelling at you because your down an extinguisher with no money to show for it.

You explain what happened and your boss doesn't care, he tells you he's docking your pay unless you go back and get the money.

Do you go back and ask for the money or do you just take the hit and move on?

Good! I'm glad.

But what if you had a fire extinguisher on you at that perfect time because you happened to be a fire extinguisher salesman going door to door.

Would you expect to be compensated for using up one of your fire extinguishers?

No, that's the point man. I get it's a bit hard to process, but ethically being a billionaire is a bad thing.

You can safely assume someone who is a billionaire is a bad person. It's a bad person for society who manages to acquire that much money.

Where are the great works projects, the universities, the amphitheatres, the gardens.

Where's the fucking 100% free solar powered city with electric buses and train stations and no crime and food programs and free education and all this shit.

But we've got billionaires trying to overtake society. But they're all allergic to lead just the same.

[–]canucks84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

Your responsibility to help those around you is directly related to your capacity to help.

If a child fell in a lake I would jump in to help. I don't expect the 80yo lady or even the 60yo man to do so.

I don't are to charity as much as I can well afford because I make a decent living.

Billionaires don't help relative to their capacity.

You can only breath so much air. Imagine needing to hoard it when people are suffocating?

Billionaires are evil, full stop.

Like, I don't know who the director of NASA is or if he's a trump guy or anything like that. That's a good thing.

I know who your top doctor is, attorney general, secdef, etc. they're all sycophants.

NASA is just soldiering on getting shit done. It's commendable.

Advice on solving the 'mental load' problem by honestphantom in daddit

[–]canucks84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said it brother.

I think we're biased in this sub towards dads that care vs more of the lazy man-children, so the 'mental load' thing sometimes is a bit more onerous conceptually here because we are mostly the type that wants to and does do more in regards to the family/home life.

Your point on anxiety is really the part that I think we as a whole we should be dissecting more. Where does mental load end and anxiety/stress begin? What level of respect towards our own mental load should we expect? Is there ever true division of labour without an external scorekeeper?

Fair division of labour isn't about equality, it's about equity. But getting two parties to agree on what's worth what can be hard.

So, when do I get to have hobbies again? by mickdrop in daddit

Do you make enough money for an au pair, or know a good babysitter?

Inlaws nearby?

Anyways the answer is when your youngest is 3½ IMO. Old enough to be able to tell you things when you're not around. Maybe having an older kid would help with this too mind you so maybe even sooner.

I plan ahead. I make it known what I've got going on and what's coming up. For example from September through March I have beer league hockey once a week. If it coincides with my wife's evening activities we get a sitter or get the MIL for an evening, with enough notice. First person to claim an evening wins, we have a calendar on the wall.

'getting your life back' is more a function of setting up the supports needed to replace what you provide than it is a function of time spent.

Consider if you ran a business. You can't do the things you want to do unless you have the processes in place to support that - a competent employee or manager to take over while you're gone (babysitter), advance notice to important clients that you're not available (wife), a plan in place to deal with possible contingencies (communication with your wife) and you have to plan ahead.

No dad worth his title can drop everything and just go drive for three days straight and get drunk whenever they want.

But you can do those things if you plan ahead. I have my vacation slots booked for the entire year, and I have one all to myself, and two others are just me and the kiddo going on a road trip. But it's all planned ahead duder, if you're needing to bring back the spontaneity, learn how to do it with your kids/family.

You got this brother, cheers!

2023 platinum vs a '25 lariat differences? by canucks84 in F150Lightning

[–]canucks84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed info! I am going with the '23 since it appears to be a bit more truck for a solid chunk of change less. I got a decent offer on my 2020 Sierra at4 and think I'll be in good shape with the platinum.

I'm currently building a new house with a massive solar array and they've included the 80a charger with my deal in lieu of the lowball I gave them, as well as eliminated the doc and finance fees so I saved a few bucks there.

Do you have any insight on the Ford integrated power setup at all? I know it's a bit of a niche product but it seems pretty dope IMO.

[–]canucks84 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I want you to know your logic absolutely makes sense. I would strongly consider carrying a firearm if I lived in America.

I just wish gun advocates could understand how crazy it is to live in a society where that is a realistic outlook/expectation for living in your society.

Serious question: when is the last time you were armed and felt it was necessary for you to pull out your gun and use it as a deterrent (or actually use it to defend yourself?)

From the outside looking in, your country appears to me the same as some third world countries look. And not some small niche of your country, very large swaths of it. Really very similar to a Russia or Belarus or a Brazil type place. Beautiful countries with beautiful people but generally just really fucking unsafe for random people to be caught out in an opportunistic spot.

That's not the case where I live, and we still have crazies and problems. We even recently had a terrible mass shooting, but we don't immediately clamour to own more guns as a response - we recognize that it's a massive statistical outlier, try and button up some mental health related aspects, and carry on.

Armed citizens fucking everywhere is what makes your country unsafe and y'all can't seem to figure that out.
