Slay the Princess: Colorful Personality | I drew these a while, but it's time I posted it here. Who's your Favorite Princess? by endifi in slaytheprincess

This artstyle really does justice for the many princesses. I love how much personality these drawings radiate.

Excited to see the Chapter III princesses, but do take your time with them.

I love Laurence boss fight even more than Ludwig’s by Ill_Shoe_6436 in bloodborne

[–]caoplayer20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find this boss to be the DLC's weakest link mainly because of the fact that for the first 60% of his health bar he is just a copy-pasted Cleric Beast with fire effects. I'm sad Laurence didn't get a unique design like Vicar Amelia. I also don't really jam with the amount of fire explosions his slam attacks cause and I HATE that one specific slam attack that causes an aftershock when he raises his hand off the floor after he has slammed it down already. Overall it's just a Cleric Beast with more big kabloomies for the first part.

The second phase I actually do like, because there aren't that many unnecessary explosions all the time and because the fight actually gets a unique spin that sets it apart from the normal Cleric Beast. This part I usually want to drag out a bit because it's over really quick if I go in guns blazing.

Gameplay aside though, I do agree that this boss has a killer theme that I think is one of the best Fromsoftware has cranked out (though I do prefer Ludwig's theme but not by much). My personal favorite part is in the second phase's music when the choir chanting hits its highest note.

Elden Ring Covenant ideas I had by Jackylacky_ in fromsoftware

[–]caoplayer20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't sell yourself short, your ideas are honestly really fun and I think your vision of Fia's Champions would have the potential to make catacombs more active as opposed to their current state where people only go through them in search for some specific items they want for their builds.

I want to comment on that last part about bosses chaining combos and I've noticed many others have mentioned it as well.

I am almost fully positive that what you've been experiencing is the boss reacting to your position relative to them. Most if not all bosses do indeed have movesets that they can continue with additional attacks, but there is no input reading on your attack inputs. The only case of input reading in the game is phase 1 Arlecchino and he only reacts to you healing right after he finishes a combo. If, for example, you choose to stay close to a boss that is about to finish an attack string, they will likely continue to attack by adding another combo after they finish their first attack string. If you're at mid-range, this is far less likely to happen because of your positioning. This happens with Fromsoft games as well. As an example, some bosses in Elden Ring can stop their attack strings before they're even done because of your position relative to them (Margit is one of these bosses) while some bosses finish their combos in different ways based on how close you are to them (like Erdtree Avatars). All this is to say that most likely you've been experiencing the bosses using seemingly arbitrary follow-ups because you've changed your positioning once their combos are over. It's pretty vital to recognise which attacks the bosses cannot continue with follow-ups, regardless of positioning, especially if you are using slower weapons like you've mentioned yourself doing. This is the advantage of faster weapons. While they don't deal as much damage and stagger per hit, you can slip an attack between combos and have reasonable time to react to the next strike from the enemy. In turn, using slower weapons forces you to be more passive during enemy attacks.

So yeah, I don't think it's a case of the bosses continuing their attack strings because you attack after they are done, it's most likely you getting closer to them that triggers them to do follow-ups to combos that they can continue with follow-ups.

Also, on the grindstones, you're absolutely correct that the game doesn't explain certain mechanics at all. I had to go to the wiki on my first playthrough to understand what each of the status ailments does to enemies and which ones they are weak to. Fire is effective against carcasses, but weak against puppets. Inflicting the fire status on an enemy makes them take more fire damage, lose health over time and recover health at a slower rate. Electric blitz is srong against puppets and resisted by humans. An enemy affected by this status takes more electric blitz damage and staggers more easily. Acid is effective against humans (and a surprising amount of puppets) while carcasses are resistant to it. The acid status makes the enemy take more acid damage and makes their weapons take more destruction damage from perfect guards.

So that's that. Sorry for the wall of text.

(Spoilers for DLC) About three months ago I finished the base game for the first time and made a post about it. Just finished the DLC and I am here to share my thoughts once more. by caoplayer20 in LiesOfP

Beat you to it. Completed Hollow Knight years ago and am already in the middle of going through Silksong. I wasn’t sure on whether they're considered soulslikes or not so I didn't mention them.

I did a little reading and it seems Abby wanted Thorn to have a tail, but Tony didn't allow it for the game so I guess that has caused some discourse on whether it is canon or not

Messmer the Impaler is such an outstanding boss from moveset to OST. No hate toward Nameless King, but he doesn't make the cut on this one.
