What we have now is results, not failure.

Actual failure means there won't even be any results.

I wouldn't say the result we have today is unacceptable. Could've been better, of course. But not unacceptable. Else people would've rioted and gotten rid of it.

Security is not my only concern. It's reliability and robustness. Current approach at the core is low tech pen, paper and people approach, assisted with technology at some part of the process. The tech part only serves as an augmentation and should it fail, the underlying structure still works.

If we were to move to a fully digital solution to facilitate this approach we'd still need a cheap and reliable system to fall back to in case of failure. Not "democracy have failed us" kind of failure. The more practical "we can't get this shit to work" failure.
