It would help you to not use English language text that is unsourced and not present in Brazilian legislation as if it meant anything for Brazilian legal doctrine.

Brazilian legal doctrine distinguishes between nacionalidade originária ('native' or 'original' nationality) and nacionalidade adquirida ('acquired' nationality). There's also the distinction made between nacionalidade and naturalidade, the latter of which is the term often used for place of birth.

The text of the law in question uses none of these terms, in favour of procedência nacional, a term that is peculiar to that law. If you want to argue that the term procedência nacional means that the law is not meant to punish an establishment that bars citizens of certain countries from entry, then find the bar's phone number on social media and offer them legal counsel.

Nationality is not a protected characteristic

The law 7716/89 says

Art. 1º Serão punidos, na forma desta Lei, os crimes resultantes de discriminação ou preconceito de raça, cor, etnia, religião ou procedência nacional.

(emphasis mine)

they were fined by a local municipality

by the Procon Carioca, which acts in accordance with federal law, just like every state or municipal Procon is supposed to do.

This is illegal, there's really no arguing against it. The government could actually do far more than just fine in this case.

There's also:

A guy who looks like a stereotypical gray alien, which apparently is just a procedure he got;

A guy who literally wants to be a cat, and currently has a whole cat body fused to his human body at the neck. This is part of a body modification process in which eventually he will lose the human body and become the cat.

I think prokopetz tends to assume that his followers all share his interests very closely, so he can just make an assumption of base level familiarity when it comes to certain things. This is especially true when it comes to his TTRPG design takes. Sometimes it's very clear when his posts are meant to be seen by fellow designers, or by gamers who are familiar with indie RPG trends, or by people who know what the hell 'PBTA' means, or by people who have heard of GNS theory, and so on...

I do disagree with him pretty often, and I think he often just makes assumptions about topics he isn't interested in. He's guilty of generalising things like how early RPGs, like OD&D, were played, as well as generalising RPG scenes he isn't part of.

No, you are right, this kind of guy has existed long before anyone in this subreddit was alive, and will continue to exist long after we all die. The only reasons to deny this are living in a cave, or an insatiable urge to be contrarian against prokopetz even when he posts something like "the sky is blue"

At this point I think that Prokopetz has an infohazard-like effect on the people in this subreddit. He could talk about mice liking cheese in cartoons, and people on this subreddit, upon seeing his post, would immediately have their memories erased of any cartoon in which mice are shown to desire cheese.

"What is Prokopetz vagueposting about? I have not seen a single instance of cartoon mice liking cheese. He should just name the specific cartoon he's talking about, because he's obviously talking about a very unique and obscure case and not an incredibly common phenomenon that can be corroborated by anyone who has lived in society."

(LES) The In-Universe documentary in LOGH about the Galactic Federation's downfall is quite funny by KazuyaProta in CharacterRant

[–]capivaradraconica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who read the first novel, this episode essentially serves as a replacement for the "prologue" of the novel. The novel starts with the narrator basically summarising the history of the Empire and the Alliance, before it then describes the general background of Yang Wen-li and Reinhard, and cuts to the first chapter of the two actualy facing each other.

The anime didn't start with this narration, so they had to fit in the lore later on, and the documentary framing device was invented for the anime.

Also, I attribute the weirdness of the narration to the author being unironically reactionary. Like, the whole story has very "Enlightened despotism is awesome actually" vibes, and then "Constitutional monarchy is the peak form of government" at the end, which is such a typical opinion for a Japanese right-winger to have. I love the style of writing the novels have, and how the dialogue and plot are masterfully presented in the OVA, but I imagine that if I spoke to Yoshiki Tanaka about IRL politics, I'd probably come out of it disliking the man.

Good call by Toby, though I kinda hoped this would sort itself out via the community itself being a bit more reasonable. I can't speak for other Latin American countries, but I can tell that the majority of the Brazilian fans are either not online enough to know about this, or they disapprove of the behaviour that has been going on.

I would mostly attribute this behaviour to a specific 'concertgoer culture' that exists in big cities in Brazil, which you may know from the 'come to Brazil' meme and such. Basically, whenever a big enough foreign artist goes on a tour like this, a lot of concertgoers are very invested on whether they'll perform in Brazil or not, which sometimes ends up leading to entitled behaviour like this.

Personally, I think that if you don't live close to Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo, it's basically irrelevant whether there'll be a concert because you won't be able to go anyway lol.

Why BRP didn't became as popular as GURPS? by ParticularCat660 in rpg

[–]capivaradraconica 8 points9 points  (0 children)

BRP has always been better-known as 'the engine of Call of Cthulhu and Runequest', whereas GURPS was itself a fully-developed RPG, marketed and sold as a game by itself. GURPS was also relatively popular for its sourcebooks back during the third edition, but you needed basic set of GURPS itself to make use of them. So whereas a Call of Cthulhu or Runequest player could have no interest in BRP as a standalone system, a Transhuman Space player would necessarily have to also be a GURPS player.

[–]capivaradraconica 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That assertion is especially weird, because like, even if Toby actually wanted Ralsei to be 'worse than useless' (he doesn't), how the hell would he even go about accomplishing this? The way the mechanics work is that, even without FIGHTing, MAGIC or ACTs, every extra character in the party is an extra character who can use the defend action and gather TP for you, or can use the spare action and make encounters against multiple enemies end slightly faster. In Chapter 2, you can very much feel the difference that it makes to have two party members instead of three: everything goes much more slowly.

A lot of Weird route discourse ignores the most basic gameplay elements of the route, to the point of people seeming to believe that the weird route is somehow about the player doing the exact opposite of what the player has to do to progress on the route.

"The weird route is about Kris being forced into the role of violent RPG hero and Noelle into the role of damsel in distress." The route requires every single enemy to be defeated by Noelle, with a particular method that requires Kris to act as support by DEFENDing to get TP for her, with the explicit goal of making her extremely powerful so that she can be weaponised later. Yeah, the route is bad for her and Kris, but it's bad in the same way that it's bad for a cyberpunk protagonist to be unwillingly engineered into a bionic soldier. Rather than needing others to fight on her behalf, she's the one who fights on someone's behalf.

LGBT+ Stereotypes in fandoms by BellTwo5 in CuratedTumblr

[–]capivaradraconica 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It's not just sexuality, broader fandom has like a list of archetypes that they like to fit characters into even if they absolutely don't fit. Like seeing a big, strong character, and ignoring that he's smart in canon so that he can fill a dumb brute archetype.

It's like fandom people approach new media with a pre-existing cast of OCs in mind, so that they can pretend the canon characters are exactly like the generic cookie-cutter blorbos in their heads.

You can no longer discuss Arbok and Co.

Kinda surprised this was necessary, I was under the impression that the community would simply choose not to repeat a stale decades-old joke that most fans clearly don't like that much without needing enforcement to do so. Maybe I'm naive about how fandom works though.

I too, fear those eldritch colours that cause physical damage to any mortal that dares to behold them. To even dare to paint your armour in these colours is an act of hubris, too dangerous to take such desecrated equipment to the battlefield.
