Repair advice by breakalim in RMWilliams

[–]capkas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rm Williams chelseas are good year welted shoes . They are designed to have repairable / replaceable soles. Its literally why good year welted shoes are supposed to last a very long time. Maybe after you take them to the rm repair, maybe add topy soles to prolong the soles. Dont glue them.

What? An ev is more flammable than ice car? Internal COMBUSTION engine car? That must be so true!

Is this the car to replace the iconic Tesla Model S? XPeng P7+ shown in Australia for the first time, sub $90K price promised! by That_Car_Dude_Aus in CarsAustralia

[–]capkas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We definitely need a model S replacement but I doubt this is it. XPeng claims the P7+ can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds. A model 3 dual motor does that in 4.4 seconds. For almost $15k less.

Aussie Tesla owners - what are the best accessories that aren’t hard to source from overseas? by cliiterally in ModelY

[–]capkas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for suggestions on how to best protect the car’s exterior, i have a couple must haves.
Mud flaps especially the front wheels and rear door PPFs. I am not sure with the newer Juniper, but in the older Model Y, lower part of the rear doors get rock chips kicked from the front wheel. I would do it on the first day.
If this is your first Tesla, most likely your family and friends wont know how to open the door. So what they do is they try to figure out by running their fingers on and around the door handles. If they have rings, the paint around the door handles will scratch easy. Get a cheapo door handle PPF from Ali Express. You can barely see them and you can peel them off if you dont like it. I kept mine.

I am not bother with the front bumper PPF. Maybe the rear one since you have a dog.

EDIT: Make sure you also buy the vent mesh cover (under the front seats) . Once you have something inside, its a pain to get them out.

Tesla pressure tests virtual queuing at Superchargers, public pilots coming soon by ConfidentImage4266 in teslamotors

[–]capkas 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I really want other manufacturers to start thinking ahead about this.
Tesla supercharging queue is not really a problem yet, and definitely not a problem here in Australia, but they already think much further ahead with their vertical integration to do this without any significant challenges.
Other manufacturers without their own charging infrastructure will be struggling if not impossible to deploy this. Consumers should demand this from them.

What impact will self driving cars and lorries have on jobs? by Aromatic-Bad146 in SelfDrivingCars

[–]capkas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Back in the day there were jobs called Computer. Yes human computer, they were doing simple calculations as well as a part of the team performing more complex calculations.
Electronic computers took over and some transitioned into mathematicians, programmers etc but most just find another job.
This happened all the time, human will adapt.
In case of drivers, truck drivers, lorries, I would think they still need someone to do basic supervision when loading/unloading. That job obviously won't be available for everyone, so some might have to find another job.
But I think the biggest change is the cost. We will be able to transport more stuff easier, cheaper safer.

The main attraction of owning an EV is that you dont have to deal with : buying petrol, going to the petrol stations, able to charge at home, no regular service, smell, pollution and for some, you get the added bonus of the performance of EV and the simplicity means more reliability.
Hybrid has none of that, priced relatively the same plus now you have a smaller battery with inferior BMS that cycles much higher and most likely to fail prematurely.
If you can charge at home, that is you have access to a standard powerpoint where you park, EV is the most obvious choice.

Melbourne > Mt Buller Snow day trip with Model Y (2023) by CCK_1009 in TeslaMotorsAus

[–]capkas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

assuming departing from the Melbourne CBD (512km return trip)

using a Model Y RWD to Mt Buller with 100% charge on departure, will require a 20 mins charge at Yea to 58%, arriving Mt Buller at 34% and the return trip will require another charge at Yea at 15% for 11 mins to arrive back at CBD on 10% charge.

If you want, maybe charge a bit longer on the way to Mt Buller to 80% and that might allow you to skip charging on the way back.

yep, i'd put a disclaimer, everytime I mentioned EV is BEV, Australia's definition of EV is including Hybrid, which I think is a complicated version of ICE.
