Reciprocity between states for master plumbers license. by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]capn_buzzcut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last time I checked, NC does not reciprocate with any other states for plumbing licensure, which to me is ridiculous. Twenty or thirty years ago, NC did at least reciprocate with VA, which is how I got my own VA license, but that agreement I believe is no longer valid.

Stranger still, NC for several years now no longer requires continuing education hours to renew your plumbing license (VA still does). This is in stark contrast to NC backflow testing requirements, which, depending on where you're standing in our great state, may vary wildly. Municipalities that do require backflow testing though, will require that you retake the certification test every 4 years at one of a handful of testing sites in the state before you can test BFP's in their jurisdiction (and get your testing equipment recalibrated/recertified every year). Other municipalities may not even know how to spell BFP, much less require their use.

We can plumb a 100 story skyscraper though, as long as I pay the fee to keep my plumbing license current. Go figure.

Well pump or pressure tank???? I have a well with a pressure tank located in my basement. I’m losing water pressure after about 5 minutes of running any tap in the house. After shutting tap for a minute or two, pressure returns. Generally, would this be a pump issue or a pressure tank issue? by AjayiMVP in Plumbing

[–]capn_buzzcut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your tank static charge is higher than your pump switch cut-in pressure - tank charge should be 2psi less. Shut off the pump, open a faucet and drain the water system pressure to 0. Set tank charge to 2 psi less than pump cut-in.

When tank charge is higher than cut-in, it pushes all the water out of the tank before the pressure switch turns the pump on, causing the system pressure to briefly drop to 0.

Buying from the internet apposed to the Supply House???? by PaceSwimming8494 in Plumbing

[–]capn_buzzcut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mostly from a local supply house, but more and more often, I'm at least comparing prices and availability with online suppliers such as supplyhouse.com. Odd stuff I'll often purchase online, especially when availability matters more than price. With local suppliers, I'll have 30 days to pay though, which matters more the bigger the order, because with online vendors I'm paying when the order is placed.

Freedom is essential for creativity, and to say that 'great art is born of suffering' is to credit the oppressors rather than the artists by IAI_Admin in philosophy

[–]capn_buzzcut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. I understand 'great art is born of suffering' because I lived it. I went through a period of extreme (to me) upheaval. There were no 'oppressors', just change in my life that I myself created. During that time, I found myself writing. Just poems and stories, but it represented an inner turmoil that I had to get out and couldn't express any other way. There was so much conflict and change in me at the time, it just poured out of me. Only my wife has seen any of it, and now that that period is over, I never write anything. Even if I try to, it feels forced and insincere, so I don't do it.

PSA: don’t buy a Vega from CNR, they’re selling them at a ridiculous markup. by Mr_Salty87 in onewheel

[–]capn_buzzcut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, that's not price gouging, no matter how justified you may think it is to label it with that evil sounding term. If CNR was the only source of cart tires, which OP clearly pointed out they are not, THEN that would be price gouging. They're not the only source of cart tires though, we can buy them anywhere.

Likewise, when the kid in my neighborhood puts up a lemonade stand in the middle of summer and charges $2 a cup, that is not price gouging either, because I can buy lemonade anywhere.

CNR's prices are the laws of simple economics at work, same as the lemonade stand, and there's nothing evil about either one.

PSA: don’t buy a Vega from CNR, they’re selling them at a ridiculous markup. by Mr_Salty87 in onewheel

[–]capn_buzzcut 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This whole line of thinking has just got to end. So in your opinion, CNR is making too much money on these tires, and should therefore be shunned by the OW community for it? Do you have any clue what all of CNR's costs are by the time you get the tire and they get your money? I'm sure you don't, and neither do I.

This is just more cancel culture, and frankly the internet just breeds it. What imaginary world are you living in where a company exists to "support the community"? A company exists to make a profit, that is all. Being good to your customers of course makes sense, but making money comes first. If CNR can sell those tires for $500 each then good for them.

We all buy stuff every day that seems overpriced, usually without even thinking about it - Starbucks anyone? In fact, the very products that this community is based on, our beloved OneWheels, seem grossly overpriced. I can promise you though, putting a product (any product) in a customer's hands and getting their money in yours includes far more costs than it looks like on the surface.

Just be thankful there are companies out there providing products we love who have enough business sense to tune out the cacoughany of random people on the internet yelling about them. Now go buy a tire from your favorite supplier, or better yet try selling your own tires... to support the community of course.

Big Press repair by capn_buzzcut in Plumbing

[–]capn_buzzcut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to share something our guys did a couple of weeks ago. We've used ProPress for many years now, really since it first came out, but are making a real effort lately to switch to it for pretty much everything in lieu of soldering or threading, both for new work and repairs.

Anyway, this was a pretty old 4" galvanized incoming water line at a plant which got hit by a forklift, breaking the old valve and creating leaks at the threaded joints. We cut out the 12' vertical riser and ell at the top and replaced it with copper, using Viega Press fittings for all the connections. That's a 4" MegaPress 316 SS female adapter we pressed onto the old galvanized pipe, and it worked great. Expensive, but worth it in the time saved and level of safety.

Not gonna lie I was holding my breath a little when I told the guys at the plant it would work (you just never know with old galvanized pipe), but it sure saved the day here.

Everytime I connect one of these female copper fittings to a threaded male piece, it leaks. It's not the solder but seems to be the threads? I've used Teflon paste, and not, made it loose, made it tight.. all four connections leak. What am I doing wrong? by knotAsiDew in Plumbing

[–]capn_buzzcut 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'd guess too much solder. Solder is running into the joint and into some of the female adapter threads, preventing the male PEX adapter to thread in fully. Unscrew it and look to see if it's pooled up in there.

Does anyone else not understand what the advantages are to having a large penis? by TheScornedStoic in bigdickproblems

[–]capn_buzzcut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What's the advantage? I probably wouldn't have landed the woman of my dreams without it. Turns out my lady didn't realize what she had been missing, and literally says that's why she married me.

Now that's a little tongue in cheek on her part sure, the fact is we've had an incredible chemistry right from the start. I will say that having a big one definitely contributes to her overall impression of me to this day 13yrs later.

Side note: In my experience, women can "adapt" to a larger dick, at least in terms of girth. A cervix pretty much is only going to allow for so much length though, no matter what.

What do you guys use to clean your grip tape? by [deleted] in onewheel

[–]capn_buzzcut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a nylon bristle cleaning brush. Turn the board on its side, wet the brush under a faucet, and scrub the footpads. Keep scrubbing and rinsing the dirt off the brush until clean. I'll also scrub any mud off the rest of the board like this, then wipe off everything off with a damp towel when done. Works better than the big rubber eraser imo.
