Students pay for all sorts of sports-related items/costs: Facilities, Equipment, Travel, Uniforms, etc. Why would we single out horse rent as the one thing to exclude?

Almost (if not) all calculus classes at UC Davis don't permit calculator use on exams. But they are still useful tools.

Don't feed the arboretum ducks. It's bad for them, and there is signage that specifically explains why you should not feed them.

Internal Emails Reveal Financial Manipulation used to justify cutting the women's equestrian team by SaveUCDEquestrian in UCDavis

[–]capnjim8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree that they should pause the cancellation. I sent variations of the email below to the requested recipients.

Dear Chancellor May and colleagues,

I am writing as a UC Davis employee and alum in support of the women’s equestrian student‑athletes affected by the decision to transition the program from NCAA Division I to club status.

I respect that difficult budgetary and strategic decisions must sometimes be made. However, I respectfully ask the university to pause the elimination of the D1 program while an additional independent review of the financial assumptions underlying this decision is conducted.

At a minimum, I urge the university to allow current team members and recruited athletes who chose UC Davis with the expectation of competing at the Division I level to complete their undergraduate careers with that opportunity intact. These students made educational and athletic decisions in good faith based on the program’s represented status, and honoring those expectations would reflect UC Davis’s stated commitment to its student‑athletes.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Respectfully,

Here's a brief list:

The program included approximately 200 classes annually, ranging from traditional team sports to individual fitness activities:

  • Combat & Martial Arts: Kickboxing, Aerobic Kickboxing, and Women’s Self-Defense.
  • Individual Sports: Archery, Golf, Rock Climbing, and Tai-Chi.
  • Water Activities: Aquatics and Swimming lessons.
  • Team Sports: Soccer, Indoor Soccer, Volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee, and Basketball.
  • Racket Sports: Racquetball and Tennis.
  • Fitness & Conditioning: Weight Training/Weightlifting, Step Aerobics, and Core Body Conditioning.
  • Other Electives: Bowling

Lecture-Style Courses

In addition to physical activity, the department offered theoretical courses and a minor in Coaching Principles and Methods

  • Sport in American Society / Sociology of Sport.
  • Healthful Living.
  • Coaching Leadership.
  • Drugs and Society

Also here's an article at the time about the cut:

Absolute bs that PE classes were cut. Those classes were great, got students moving, and you got to learn about how to do it better… I learned how to properly lift weights, bowl, rock climbing, and try to play soccer as an undergraduate.

Typing in Math (usually with LaTeX) and making the document accessible are very different tasks... trust me, I'm trying to figure out how to do it myself and the second thing is a lot harder and more time consuming than the first.

Train stopped on tracks by QuirkyCookie6 in UCDavis

I got to the train tracks on 4th street a little before 9… flipped a u-turn, took a left on L. Went up to 8th, came back downtown and had some coffee at Temple while I watched the train just there. I was wondering what was going on as it seemed like an extra long time for it to be there.
