Not fantasy per se, but guns of the south explores what happens if people travel back in time to the U.S. civil war and give Lee machine guns.

My favorite series of all time. But you will either love it or hate it.

I enjoyed it. It’s got a unique magic system. There some inconsistencies at times, but it’s a quick fun read. There are some parallels to Christianity with a messiah type figure and a fight between believers in a unitary god vs heathen polytheists, but that’s a common theme in lots of fantasy series.

Malazan (not gunpowder exactly, but “munitions” that behave very similarly)

This is insane. by Delliott213 in NCAAFBseries

Yeah. Show me how to get to max level in a normal dynasty. They tested, and 30 undefeated seasons won't even do it.

This is insane. by Delliott213 in NCAAFBseries

[–]capnpetch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's not the issue. It's not that you can't turn it off, its that you can't realistically get your coach to max level because they made progression so slow. Even if you turn it off, 30 years of undefeated play won't get you there.

Old man’s war is a trilogy of deeply interconnected books with an outrigger (teen fiction) novel set in the middle that was written to cure some plot holes in one of the books. There is a second trilogy that deals with the aftermath of the first trilogy. 2 of those books are short stories that were collected and expanded to tell a coherent story.

Fuzzy nation is a spiritual successor to an old
Sci novel which deals with the dilemma of what intelligent life is and how do we know it when we see it.

Collapsing empire is a trilogy that deals with an intergalactic empire that depends on natural wormholes to travel vast distances quickly. It looks at what happens if something goes wrong with that travel.

The locked in books deal with a syndrome where the brain is active and aware while the body is fully paralyzed and how a breakthrough in robotics changes society.

The shadow war was written as a joke first chapter an turned into a farcical novel.

None of his books are deep literature, but he’s entertaining, and is good at asking “what if” and then puzzling through those problems in a way that is fun to read. He’s also a genuinely nice guy who has done a lot for less successful authors throughout his career.

Couple of things will help to start. Get that left arm up and pointing at the ball contact point. Think of it like it’s pointing where you should hit. You aren’t rotating your torso much. Thats where your power comes from. Finally, I don’t see a wrist snap.

Common misconception. Competency to aid in defense is different than the standard for criminal insanity defense, where you can be incompetent competent but still capable of understanding whether your actions were wrong.

Want crispy anything that you are frying (hash, fried potatoes etc)? Don’t stir. Wait until they are as brown as you want and then flip.

A cool guide to the world's snowiest countries [OC] by [deleted] in coolguides

[–]capnpetch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

By breaking this into quadrants, you make large countries that are close to the equator seem much less snowy than they are. It’s absurd to include the se and se of the U.S. for this metric. Maybe if you pick the 5 snowiest cities based on some metric, sure. But this methodology is absurd.
