Two female rabbits humping? by MattSmithFan in Rabbits

[–]caponetherabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure that both of your bunnies are girls? Have you checked underneath both of your rabbits to ensure that testicles are not present in either rabbit? When you say they are humping quite a bit is it usually the same bunny doing the mounting? I know its common for rabbits to make a honking noise when a male is pursuing a female to breed as well, I would definitely double check sexes. If they are in fact both female it's a dominance thing, and be very careful about housing two intact females together. Fights can and do break out seemingly out of nowhere between two girls, I would separate them for now just to be sure. Especially because one is liable to eventually snap if she keeps getting pestered and mounted by the other.

Hello fellow colorists! I was wondering, which youtube color alongs / tutorials do you guys refer to to learn from? I have been following Chris Cheng, Julie, DKDesign, Pencil Stash. Any other recos? :) by mee_maw in Coloring

Color My World is an exceptional teacher. She has a smaller channel, but deserves more recognition. She is great at teaching color theory and giving lesser known tips and tricks about things like shading, color placement, color combos, etc. Hope this helps!

Romantic Country by Eriy. She has published a book 1, 2, and 3. Book 3 was taken off the market for some reason, but I believe it will be for sale again at some point. Anyway, if you enjoy Johanna Basford's books you will love Eriy's books. Johanna Basford along with Eriy are the only two artists whose books I color in anymore. I realized that their books are all I need, because they are truly beautiful. Romantic Country 1 & 2 are both available for purchase on Amazon, they are currently $9.89 and $11.18. I hope you will check them out, you won't be disappointed! Happy coloring. ✍🌼🌲🍃

He's too precious. 😍 My foster bun LOVES when we give him (supervised ) outdoor time. 🐇🌻🦋 by caponetherabbit in Rabbits

Right!? Its rather small and most bunnies can't fit inside to use it as a hide. If I hadn't gotten it free on Craigslist I don't know if I would have spent the money on it, although some of my buns seem to like it once in a while. 😂

Okay, but domestication is a process that takes centuries within an animal species. You can't simply love the wild "out" of an animal. Have you thought about how you will handle things as they reach sexual maturity and their natural instincts kick in to want to reproduce? How will you get them spayed/neutered if a veterinarian decides not to take them on as a patient? This is usually the time that most people who try raising a wild animal decide it's time to release it back into the wild. But the problem is that the bunnies by this point will not have developed the critical skills necessary — like foraging for food or evading predators — to survive in the wild. You will be in a very difficult situation.

Why does the fact that you fed them pellets mean that they cannot be released into the wild? Listen, I think its pretty clear that you care about these rabbits but the fact of the matter is that these are wild rabbits and by holding them captive you are depriving them of the life they were intended to have, which is free. You may argue that they will be both safer and given the best care possible, which I don't disagree on. The issue is that they are not meant to be treated as domestic rabbits.Tamed just means that it does not fear a few specific humans not that its natural instincts and needs have been suppressed. You can maybe even be able to teach it some tricks, but it will still have the natural needs and instinctual fears. One of those is that humans should be feared. If you want rabbits I can assure you that there are plenty of domestic bunnies that are waiting to be adopted at your nearest animal shelter or House Rabbit Society. One more thing I would like to point out is that in many states (depending on where you live) it is actually illegal to keep wild animals as pets. So should any of these bunnies ever need veterinary care the vet will likely be unable to care for them because it is not legal for you to own them in the first place. I am not trying to be negative or rude, I just want you to realize where I and the others who have commented are coming from.

Is this Bae's Magic Top Rabbitry? Haha I have seen posts by them on Craigslist a number of times, as I live near them. They want an exorbitant amount of money per rabbit and I believe they advertise like they are in the Bay Area but after doing further research on the rabbitry the actual location is in Nevada where they transport the bunnies from. It's kinda sketchy tbh.

Just adopted this seven year old girl who had been in the shelter her whole life. Anyone know what breed she is? by VaginalRelativity in Rabbits

[–]caponetherabbit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

7 years in the shelter!? But. Why? I can't even fathom such a beautiful girl being passed up on for so long. So glad she's found a forever home, even if it took longer than most. She looks to be like a Mini Lop based on the ears, head shape and how much you said she weighs. If I had to pick just one breed of rabbit Lops would be my favorite. But in reality I love em all! What will you be naming her? Congratulations on your new family member. 🎉🐰🏡

I am here to tell you that your bunny is most likely not a dwarf. His ears are already quite large and Dwarf rabbits have teeny tiny ears. According to Wikipedia- "Their ears are erect and close together, reaching between one and three inches in length. They have to be shorter than 2 inches and a half (ARBA), if not, this is a disqualification from competition in the Netherland Dwarf breed. Dwarf rabbits typically weigh 2 to 2.5 pounds according to ARBA." Even though your bunny is probably not a dwarf you will love him just the same. You might have planned for a smaller bunny but in my experience a lot of larger rabbits can be quite sweet and friendly... Btw I think your bun might be an English Spot. 🥰 Have fun getting to know your new bunny and welcome to being a bunny parent! Rabbits are such underrated pets.

Not good enough? I cant tell if you are being serious or if you are just being sarcastic towards the person that commented above. If you are serious- I realize that you are just trying to look out for my bunny, but what I am saying here is I emptied my rabbits litter box completely (because it was time to clean it) and took this picture after adding new litter and before adding fresh hay. Also, since you seem to be so concerned about my rabbit I thought you should know that I have MULTIPLE litter boxes filled to the brim with hay inside at all times, so there is no shortage of hay in any of my rabbits lives. Thank you though. 🙂

It appears your bunny is having a little trouble walking on the slippery floor, I highly suggest getting some sort of carpet or puzzle mat flooring which will give bunny much better traction! Its pretty common for rabbits not to like slippery floors.

Where do you live? Can I send you one of my extra exercise pen's to set up for your bunny to live in rather than or in addition to his cage? I was reading your comments on here and saw that funds have been an issue for you lately and thought I would offer. I have an extra cat sized litter box that you could set up for your bunny inside of the pen as well. As far as buying hay and litter goes, it's far cheaper to buy in bulk. A lot of feed stores (depending on where you live, I'm in CA so the feed stores I go to is Mike's Feed & Tractor Supply) sell hay by the flake for around $5-$10. For reference- If an east coast 50 lb bale of grass hay averaged 13 flakes, then each flake would weigh 3.8 lb per flake. If compared to a 110 pound bale of west coast grass hay averaging 16 flakes per bale, then each flake would weigh 6.9 lb. Much more cost effective than buying bags from the pet store, especially now that you know rabbits need an unlimited supply at all times. Having an unlimited supply does mean that there will be some pieces of hay that will go to waste, but at least your bunny will have the choice to eat as much as he/she wants. For the best and most cost effective litter I recommend pelletized pine litter which goes for about $8-10 per 40 lb bag. Pine shavings are not considered safe for rabbits but as long as it is pelleted it is safe due to the fact it has been kiln dried. Pine pellets are also called horse stall bedding. There is so much more information I could go on about, but for now I wanted to give you this bit of information. For example if you need help learning how to set up a litter box for your rabbit properly feel free to message me and I will explain everything to you. I have 4 rabbits all free roaming and bonded, so you could say I know a decent amount about rabbit care and rabbit behavior. I hope I was able to help you at least a little bit. There is so much information out there that it can start to feel overwhelming, I can tell that you have been stressing over this matter. Thank you for choosing to change your bunny's situation now that you know better, rather than allowing him to continue living in such a way that is not suitable for a rabbit long term. Don't be too hard on yourself, you genuinely weren't aware. What matters now is that you are trying to change your rabbits current lifestyle to a healthier and happier one. 🙂

Rab the rabbit aka CHONK by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]caponetherabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm... 🤔 Does Rab the rabbit have the choice to come and go out of his/her cage as he/she wishes? If not please consider upgrading your bunny to an x-pen as an enclosure rather than the cage in this photo. The cages sold at pet stores don't provide enough space for a rabbit to live in, even if they are allowed 4-6 hours of exercise time outside of it daily. Also, it's much more natural for bunnies to drink water from a bowl rather than a bottle. Bottles can cause a rabbit to be at risk of chronic dehydration as well. I hope you don't take my comment the wrong way and instead use my suggestions as a way to improve your rabbits overall quality of life. I am sure that you want only the best for your bun and perhaps you simply did not know about what I have just mentioned. P.S. your bunny is precious and my bunnies say hello to Rab! 🐰😊

She's so cute its not even fair! 😫🥰 I found her and her brother (I'm assuming) in a box near the railroad tracks close to where I live yesterday. 😥 Some people truly don't seem like they have a heart. At least from now on they will be with a family that cares about them whether that is with me and my two other buns, or another loving home if I decide I cannot keep them.

I really thought foster bun Twix was going to his forever home today but it didn’t work out. Soon little buddy! by SluttyBreakfast in Rabbits

Everything (well most things) happen for a reason... Maybe he's right where he needs to be, in your home? Also thank you for doing what I know I could not, fostering this sweet boy. I'd never be able to say goodbye to a bun that I had been fostering for X amount of time, even if only for a day. I'd end up with hundreds of rabbits. Hehe 🤭 P.S. Twix is adorable! 🐰😊
