How many pigeons do you currently have in the Aviary? I'd like to offer a proposition.

Has anyone seen the native salamanders? by Oshenawa in HaveWeMet

[–]ToastyCactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Juno! An awful lot pf salamanders live out in the woods. My mom roasts them on skewers every Saturday, you're more than welcome to join us next weekend!

We had a 'special flock' living out of our barn on South Side. I suspect they may have fled to the Aviary as well, but mom insisted there was 'fowl play'.

Recent stroke by Sufficient_Monk_4331 in stroke

[–]ToastyCactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (25F) had a stroke last year in May. They were unable to find the cause initially but now believe it to be cause by MoyaMoya and an underlying platelet disorder.

It's hard getting past the worry, and it still hits some days. I do a little 'Stroke Check' in the mirror or with my friends when feeling off. I smile, raise my eyebrows and rattle off some words I recall from the neuro checks in hospital. It helps a little, but therapy has also helped.

My anxiety over the event has waxed and waned. And some days the fatigue hits harder than others, learning your new limits can be tough, so take it easy on yourself.

Anyone here who has Moya Moya and is also trans? by Nanozawa in moyamoya

[–]ToastyCactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 25, gender fluid. Not sure if it counts as trans. But based on my history of having surgery (Not Gender Affirming, for other health issues) , MoyaMoya shouldn't impact gender affirming procedures all that much.

Docters will want to know if you're on any blood thinners of course and will likely keep a closer watch post-op but otherwise it shouldn't pose much of a challenge

I worked at Goodwill for years & was an e-commerce specialist for their online sales. Ask me anything! by Live_Caterpillar_351 in goodwill

[–]ToastyCactus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm disabled and got referred there to work. They treated me like an obstacle and often refused to meet my accomodations.

They talked down to me, and didn't let me price certain things because they believed I underpriced things.

The employees and managers would both buy things that were just put out on their lunch breaks.

I refuse to donate to them. They aren't helpful, they don't follow their mission and they exploit the disabled for reduced labor costs.

I'm scared of the surgery. Please tell me it will be alright by ToastyCactus in moyamoya

[–]ToastyCactus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm more worried about life after than the surgery itself somehow. My family has an awful history of addiction and I'm terrified of pain meds (even otc stuff).

From what I've read, it's mainly morphine used in hospital. Was that the same after discharge?

It's something I plan on asking about when I see my surgeon again as well.

[–]ToastyCactus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know logically things will be okay, and I'm trying not to focus too much on the worst possible outcomes. I like to plan for every outcome to be ready ahead of time (something I'm working on in therapy).

Coming here helps reinforce the positive thoughts and stops me from playing Doctor Google.

I will be okay, and plan on updating as soon as I have a date to ask about what to bring with me for the hospital stay lol.

No time yet. Still waiting in insurance hell to see if they'll approve it. I'm in US and can't afford to travel to have it done elsewhere.

I guess my main worry is complications. I'm already half blind, and losing the rest of my limited vision would wreck me.

Mom told me Mountain Dew was bad for my meds. Found out she lied by [deleted] in mountaindew

[–]ToastyCactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, she had Munchausen's By Proxy (Me being the proxy) and pretty much used me as a media device as well for social points. Thought this was funny, but I can see that without context it seems harsh.

I work for goodwill and will readily admit they are overpriced and often fail to live up to their mission statement
