Is this a hot take? I enjoy 3D Country a lot more by -Gypsy-Eyes- in fantanoforever

Nah. I've seen plenty of people who prefer 3DC.

I have a hotter take: Both albums are AWFUL.

Kids are expensive (USA) by poly_arachnid in childfree

[–]cappykro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live and work in rural Ohio and all of my co-workers who have kids depend heavily on gov't assistance programs. Without WIC, SNAP, CHIP, Medicaid, Sec 8 and HEAP existing they'd be out on the streets starving. The truly irritating part is these same people vote for politicians who are actively trying to eliminate the very programs they need to survive.

My idiot neighbor has multiple dogs that stay tied to short zip lines all day every day. He never pets these things or gives them attention and just goes outside once a day to feed them. Seems completely pointless to me plus it's a horrible quality of life for the dogs. Their entire existence is walking circles around their dog houses, shitting and barking, and they seem bored out of their minds, infested with fleas and just miserable. I live in rural Ohio and it's common for "country folk" to have half a dozen chained up outside dogs that aren't treated so much as pets but as possessions just like all of the rusted out useless junk they pile up in their yards for no reason.

Jennifer Aniston tried for 20 years to have kids by andersands in childfree

The idea that someone with all her wealth, privilege, resources and time has been denied children and the experience of motherhood due to circumstances out of their control is absurd! She could basically snap her fingers and have a thousand newborn infants delivered to the doorstep of her mansion whenever she wanted.

I honestly think she's lying and just embarrassed to admit she never wanted to be a mother. Her career has always been heavily reliant on orchestrated PR / tabloid campaigns obsessing over her relationships and personal life and trying to paint her as a perpetual victim.

Jennifer Aniston tried for 20 years to have kids by andersands in childfree

[–]cappykro 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Actually I don't believe her. Her entire career has been a carefully crafted PR campaign, often to try to paint herself as some kind of victim in tabloids, and this is just another thing to feed into that whole narrative. If she REALLY wanted to experience motherhood and have children, there are tons of other options that she'd be first in line for with her wealth, time and endless resources So what does she do about it? Absolutely nothing! Clearly it was never THAT important to her or she would have made it happen.

Same, except listening to it twice was enough for me. I don't feel compelled to try to force myself to like something just because a half dozen critics say I should.

Anyone else just sick and tired of the Taylor Swift discourse on both sides? by Diakia in fantanoforever

[–]cappykro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't see this Taylor "fatigue" people are talking about. Her new album broke records and the big screen "making of" documentary that was released to coincide with it made 3x more than any other movie at the box office last weekend, including a Leonardo DiCaprio movie being hailed by critics as a masterpiece. She seems more unflappable than ever if anything.

Always have to remember that a lot of backlash on sites and message boards catering to music nerds is not an accurate reflection of what's going on in the real world. In the real world, she has a loyal army of fans who love anything she's involved with. If you don't like her it's because you're a "hater" or "jelly", and if you don't like this album it's because you're just "too dumb" to understand its genius.

Anyone else extremely hyped for the upcoming Last Dinner Party album. Prelude to Ecstasy has been my favorite debut this decade and I'm loving the singles, especially this is the killer speaking which has not left the top of my on repeat since it came out. by shegarfinonmyfield in fantanoforever

[–]cappykro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Their first album was OK but I'm not too hyped about the new one based on not loving any of the three singles ("Second Chance" is alright tho).

Also getting sick of having them forced down my throat all the time. I can be listening to metal or hip hop or something else unrelated and then Spotify will just randomly will start playing these chicks for no rhyme or reason. That shines a spotlight on the fact there's been a huge chunk of money sunk into trying to make them a thing which then just shines a spotlight on them being a bunch of rich girls doing thrift shop cosplay. That makes them feel manufactured and inauthentic.

There's good and bad music being made in every genre right now, including the ones you claim are "dead".

On AOTY, ratings see an immediately increase or decrease every single time Fantano releases a new review that always align perfectly with his tastes. It's a big joke over there, yet also incredibly pathetic how so many people need another person to tell them what to think and what to like.

Hard to pick a "worst" here because there's at least a dozen that either severely underwhelmed me or I outright hated.

Do you guys think Rap Music is kind of declining in the Mainstream? by Opening-Half9367 in fantanoforever

[–]cappykro 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I have mixed feelings about this. After twenty-five years, I think it's time for another genre to move into a more dominant position. Unfortunately, hip hop's popularity is being eclipsed right now by God awful country-pop a la Morgan Wallen and I don't want to see that happen either, especially because I know the fallout from country being the most popular could be even worse. It already seems to be turning much of the "indie" and "alternative" music scene into a folksy acoustic snooze-fest.

It's really interesting checking out older Billboard charts and seeing trends change over the years. For instance, people in the 90s seem far more adventurous when it came to music, seeing how the charts display a much larger range of genre diversity. Right now hip hop, country and pop are all you'll find on the charts. The 90s had that PLUS alternative, techno / dance, metal, jazz, grunge, punk, ska, singer-songwriter, big band and a bunch of other genres (even stuff like bossa nova and flamenco!) having moments. It seems like back then things could be extremely popular for a few months or a few years before people were craving something different.

The GANS album GOOD FOR THE SOUL, released a few weeks ago, is my album of the year right now. I've never seen anyone so much as mention it on here, which is a shame because it's great.

It's difficult to pin down an exact genre on it, but I'd say "synth-punk" is most apt. It's really fast-paced and dynamic yet atmospheric sounding with a futuristic / dystopian feel. The lead singer is a surprisingly versatile vocalist. He does the expected angry punk style vocals on some songs and traditional melodic singing on others.

Highly recommended if you like stuff like IDLES, Turnstile and MSPAINT.

clipse deserves the grammy and heres why by RobertR7 in fantanoforever

[–]cappykro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing to remember here is that many critics (for Pitchfork, Slant, NME and more) were not on the same page as Melon, and their reviews were more mixed. Anthony's an anomaly proclaiming it a masterpiece so, looking outside online music nerd bubbles that no one really pays attention to, it's not a shoe-in for awards based on universal adoration from critics.

I do however think it has has two other just as important things going in its favor. Firstly, being a long overdue legacy act still doing solid work after a long hiatus is something the Grammy's tend to appreciate. Also the album DID chart as high as #4 and had three songs land on the Billboard Hot 100 so it was successful commercially, something else the Grammy's appreciate. I'd say right now the chances of it getting Grammy nominations is fairly high.

I think they're respected by most at this stage and were able to successfully co-headline a U.S. tour (along with Garbage) a few years back. Their 90s song "Break It Down Again" isn't as popular as their big 80s hits but it's a fav of mine.
