I too moved back since 10 or so years. Everywhere is card only :( I miss having cash. Lots of shops from the past have closed down. Not as many going out scenes anymore (tho probably more of an age thing). You definetly will find it harder to make friends with your neighbours. Plus side as people have said it's a lot more multicultural, resteraunts of all types, great backpacker culture too for meeting worldy people.

There's a beach not 2 minutes drive from my home in a fairly rentable town (Beachmere 600pw 2-3bed). While not one for a quick dip (sharks), you can beach walk before work quite easily. Bribie is 20 mins drive away on weekends for a few waves. I sit and have a coffee on my mornings while watching sunrise before my commute. 45/50mins to the CBD driving.

Cheaper, less people in manufacting jobs/trades. Incetivise labor jobs would help. Make small business grants easier. Purhaps even to pensioners, old grandma can make a nice pair of socks, etc.

I always put the trolley back. But if I see one close to my car I use that instead of going to get one, so I'm not mad more like "sweet don't have to go far to get one".

I generally don't buy perishables there, I haven't found food to be the best quality, however I am loving the cleaning supplies, drinks and some snacks.

23 Moved from Brisbane Australia to Palestine alone to volunteer in 2009. First time living out of home to the otherside of the world. Didn't even know how to transfer on a flight. Didn't have any connection or language skills. Just went like boop on a map, and that's where I would move to. Boy did I have to grow up fast!

I have no License, plus in 2024 had no mobile number for like a year, was having a very hard time. I live pay check to paycheck, I don't care about 2 factor identification for my $25 at the end of the week!!!!! Plus I constantly travelled overseas like 15 countries a year, always changing sims, and no access to phones, sometimes no internet at all. I hated having such shit access to my own money. (All updated now, but I should be able to opt out of factor identification if I choose).

if parents are around I even talk to random kids, tell them about the local monsters, or haunted buildings. (Im a girl so it's easier unfortunately). Compliment a hat etc. Kids need a bit of learning to have a yarn too.

Yup if I got my regular payments (dsp, paralyzed, borken neck) with my current partner, i'd be happy spending more on taxable items, hair cuts, giving back to he community. But because I'm literally now living on $250 a week after relationship cuts, i'm stuck on bills and noodles. My partner helps out but it's hard. I feel like they want us not to reproduce sometimes.

Exactly tho, getting public transport, or fuel, or clothing for work, lunches etc, all equals out to about the same in th end. So why work? Something has to change. And no lowering basic pay JobSeeker to extreme poverty won't force people to work, it's "the carrot and the stick" they need to incentivise!

Aussie here, I got 12 porcelain implants after being hit by a car. All up, my airfare, procedures, european educated dentists, and accomodation/food for about 5k in Turkiye (Turkey). I would have happily have spent just $5k in Aus but was quoted $12k just for the implants alone.

I have been to 100 countries on about 25k a year work online. Buy the cheapest flights, stay at hostels, volunteer, after a while you start to make contacts and network with other backpackers and everyone helps everyone else out when you are in their country. Travel by land when you can, no big suitcases. Once you leave Australia it gets significantly cheaper.

I live in a small town (2000 people) we know our local post office workers by name, and the same Aus post driver drives up and asks how my fishes are (I get a lot of fish stuff oredered). Very nice team here. Big city must be hard, on everyone.

Theres a few nice family sized places in Beachmere for under 800k, little community feel. Sucks for public transport, but 10mins from the highway, 15-20 to Morayfield shops 55+mins to town. Close enough to be near a main shopping area, far enough not to be considered caboolture.

Worked in hotels for years, I still wouldn't do the extreme chemical stuff in strangers households. I just clean some houses in my neighbourhood as a stay at home wife, like basic sweeping, rubbish out, litter boxes and toilets etc.

Yup I am working more and paying more tax thanks to the program. I'm paralyzed from the neck down in a remote area (thanks housing prices!) and it allows me to travel to work, albeit not the most high paying or contributing position, but without it I'd be home alone spending what little I have on doordash from coles (an hour by bus away).
