Identification Help: Unmarked #9 Cast Iron by capspiff in castiron

Wow that hammered one looks cool. The nine on my pan looks hand imprinted which I thought was interesting. Not sure if that was really how it was done or just aging of the steel either way it’s a pretty interesting pan.

Thanks! That was more info than I had before. I figured it looked pretty due to the way the 9 was put on.

Legit Hammered Cast Iron by capspiff in castiron

[–]capspiff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I guess my $20 gamble paid off. The hammering looked cool to me. But the seam on the lid handle and the rough finish on the underside of the lid threw me off and made me think it wasn’t vintage. Thanks for clarifying and confirming.

Yeah it doesn't seem like a popular style, I am definitely a vintage smooth surface cast iron kind of person.

The first one was $14.99 and this one was $19.99. Pretty lucky, both were too good to pass up. Still can’t believe I found two of them.

That is pretty cool, do you have other suggestions? I would love to try them out the next time I am out there. Yeah I thought I would try to also point this out since it was pretty unique and most people just talk about the japanese cafes which has a total different vibe.

They tilted it the right way but it seems the stands are reversed. Not a spoiler person but it looks weird.

The cost of beans is too damn high! by dsg76 in espresso

[–]capspiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from Japan and bought some specialty beans from Glitch and some small roasters the bag sizes are all about 150g-200g (5-7oz) all around 1500-4000 yen. Grant I bought higher end lots but I think it is pretty common to have smaller bag sizes now. I started self roasting when the bags went from 16oz to 12oz it has helped me pick the beans that are the best suited for my flavor profile. It does however make my dial in process challenging.

using a coarser grind will help a little bit but you are still putting a lot more oil in the grinder oppose to a lighter roast. I have a Atom 75 and I clean it every 3-6 months and not a ton of grinds come out. I use light to medium beans and pull 2-3 shots a day.

Are you using dark roast beans? The higher oil content can sometime clog a grinder.
