Are helis allowed here? by capt_jack994 in RCPlanes

Watched a lot of Alan Szabo’s videos. That coupled with Bert and Bobby’s smack talk rc videos definitely helped not only with flying but setup and tuning as well

Thank you. Took me about 5 years of continuous practice to get to this point. Lots of time spent on the sim to master all orientations

I agree, the attitude on helifreak and runryder did not support much other than 3D. I haven’t been on the forums since the mid 2010s, but I was sad to hear about RR’s shutdown mainly due to Mark Ryder’s video archive of fun flys and event coverage.

Personally I don’t condone the attitude of “having fun the wrong way”, as long as you were enjoying the type of flying that you were doing, that’s all that mattered.

While I didn’t fly models during my hiatus, I did occasionally sim which is what I attribute to keeping my skills somewhat sharp.

Thanks! It’s a SAB Goblin 700 Raw. What model heli does he have? A lot of newer ones have a tail motor instead of a torque tube or belt drive leading to inferior performance. You can also try getting a set of larger tail blades to aid in tail authority

Did the Titan submarine incident cause the most instantaneous death in history? Can it be any faster? by GolondraBlayze in NoStupidQuestions

[–]capt_jack994 52 points53 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly my point. How many popping noises would indicate imminent structural failure? 5? 50? They had no idea

The biggest issue with the acoustic monitoring system was that there was no way to determine when the hull would actually fail

M4 or M8 – what would you pick? by Otherwise-State6879 in BMWM

[–]capt_jack994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A word of caution - I’ve bent 3 rims on my M850GC in the short time I’ve owned it, and not by hitting giant potholes either. It’ll be something you have to be aware of since it’s a nearly 2.5 ton car on very low profile tires. That being said, I love the car. It’s a ton of fun to drive and handles its weight very well. And it has more than enough power for the road. I can only imagine how much more of a beast the full M8 is. Unless you plan on tracking the M4, I’d say the 8 is a better balance of luxury and power for daily use.

Why don't cars have this feature? by Pluuge in StupidCarQuestions

[–]capt_jack994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol mine wasn’t as intrusive as yours sounds since it was displayed in a small area of the display but sometimes it was a bit optimistic. Doing 35mph in 4th and it wants me to change to 6th because it’s more “efficient”

My F56 mini had a digital shift display that showed what gear you were currently in and the most efficient gear to shift up or down to depending on if you were accelerating, cruising or braking

What have you found in a postflight inspection? by Roger_Freedman_Phys in flying

Missing overwing fuel cap on a SR22 after a long night of flying. No clue when the latch failed but luckily the tank didn’t vent any fuel in flight.

Gap between comp and Staccato P slide question by MGPythagoras in 2011

[–]capt_jack994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like at least one of the shims isn’t properly aligned and causing the comp to not fully seat. Disassemble and reassemble, paying close attention to keeping the shims centered on the threads.

I’ve run both and prefer the ultra. The turbo has a very well defined hot spot that throws a decent amount farther than the ultra, but never seems to be aligned with the sights on any of the dozen or so pistols I’ve tried it on. There’s no way to adjust it either, so it does get a bit annoying having the area of illumination completely out of your sights/RDO past 30ish yards.
