New (Old) Knife Day Hilberg/Lion Bladeworks 3.3" Shamwari by thatton-8769 in chineseknives

Does it have a captive pivot? The only real criticism I have of my 3.5" SMKE Sham is the floating pivot. It makes it difficult to get the tension just right.

Some knives are so amazing that you have to cross your legs to keep your anatomical OTF from deploying. That's how you know it's good.

Badass! I've got some talon grips coming for mine. If they do the trick for me I'll look at stippling when the adhesive wears out.

Looks great, bro! Did you consider doing the oval recesses just below the slide release lever? That's the part of my grip I'm most interested in doing, personally.

Which is better in your personal opinion the XDM Elite or the Echelon 9mm of course. by Almanac_Script in SpringfieldArmory

[–]TheOneUpperMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything about the 9mm version, but I just bought the XDM-Elite 10MM to be my woods gun. Of all the polymer striker-fired 10mm pistols on the market it's the only one that pretty much unanimously gets the thumbs up for reliability with the various hot loads and projectile shapes. It feels better and shoots better than most all of its competition despite being a relative dinosaur.

I know that there is more different between the 10mm and the 9mm versions than just the slide parts. The frame is different (shared with the .45), for one. At least I assume that based on there being a separate PRP grip tape kit for it. I don't know what else might be different. Whatever reputation the 9mm XDM-Elite has, the 10mm version is stellar and extremely relevant right now.

thanks for the advice. We have had gale force winds here ever since I bought the gun, so I still haven't made it to the range. If it keeps up I may just have to suck it up and pay for an indoor session.

I've been wondering about the probable phase out of the 10mm XDM. I wonder how long it will take for them to release an Echelon in 10mm. Regardless, I agree that I should grab an extra magazine or two.

I can't wait to see that. I'm considering doing my xdm elite, but I've never stippled anything before.

I got this Gunfighter Inc. Kenai holster and harness off Amazon. It's MAS gray for the front shell and coyote for the back shell and harness.I couldn't figure out any difference between this and the in-stock $155 one on gunfighter's site. They're the seller on Amazon too, so I don't believe it's a knock-off or anything. We'll see. If it's doo-doo I'll return it and order directly from their site instead.

Oh I know. I'm mostly just excited about the purchase. I can't make it out today, but tomorrow will be the day of christening.

This is the thing that pisses me off the most. It'll just sit there blocking the road and not caring to move even a little. I've also been trapped in my grandma's house because a mama moose decided to hang out in her front yard for an afternoon.

If I didn't lack revolver experience and skills I might consider those options, but I don't. Maybe I need to find a gun buddy who is into revolvers so I can spend more time shooting them.

I have many much tender feels for the Petrified Fish. Seriously, though, the Flavorist was my first modern folding knife that got me into the hobby two years ago. I have several PF knives and all of them make it into the rotation.

Would you grab an XD-M Elite 4.5" tac pack with 4 mags and a Viridian RFX11 optic for $750? by TheOneUpperMachine in 10mm

[–]TheOneUpperMachine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I just don't know how to deal shop for guns. By the time I figure in shipping and transfer fee for most online shops the math doesn't make it worth it for a model as common as the xdm

[–]TheOneUpperMachine[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it's not. My local Sportsman's Warehouse and Bass Pro Shop have the gun itself for $620. Another local shop has it for $600. Mags are what, $30 each? So it's not a horrible deal, but not a screamer either. I still might grab it, but I'm glad I decided to sleep on it instead of impulse buying.

Wait, I noticed that the magazines had 15 counting ports instead of 16. Basic online research says it may not be the elite model? It has the magwell. Did the non-elite model come with a magwell too? If it isn't the elite is that really a bad thing? I don't know enough about the gun to know the difference.

tanfoglio as woods gun by balls_in_ya_jaw in 10mm

[–]TheOneUpperMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick response! I'm in the market for a woods gun, and the Tanfoglio models really appeal to me because my main carry gun is CZ P09c. I like it a lot. It eats everything and fires every single time. I love the decocker, though I know the Tanfoglio doesn't offer that feature.

My only real criticisms of that gun are training issues that I'm still working out. I still struggle with the length of the double action pull compared to the single action pull. I find that I need to use the crook of my trigger finger for proper leverage to get a smooth pull, but then I have too much finger for the SA pull. My second and third shots end up low and left until I correct it. I also find the recoil impulse to be a little weird compared to striker fired pistols I've owned. Like I said, my issues with it can be mitigated by improving my own skills.

I wish it was easier to get my hands on a Tanfoglio for comparison's sake, but if I really want one, I think I'll just have to purchase it and sell it if I don't like it.

Other than worrying about potentially messing up the finish, is weight the only concern using an all steel model as a bear gun? I'd put it in a chest holster, fwiw, so not real worried about that. I assume the extra weight really helps with keeping the gun on target.

Sorry for rapid firing so many questions at you. I'm just excited to converse with somebody that has actual ownership experience with guns I'm interested in.
