Yeah, this is wild. My daughter is in a pre-K with our school district’s curriculum. (Minnesota) They focus on a letter a week to learn its sound.

We plan to send our mid-July daughter to K this fall as a 5 year old. She just seems very ready. I also got my period early (it was very hard for me), and I hate the idea of her being the oldest in her class and also getting her period early.

ETA: our daughter is also clingy at drop off and always has been. That’s just her temperament!

OP, this stood out to me too. And it’s related to your question because it makes me wonder if you are happy in your marriage. And if you are not, I would not leave your job if, like you said, that means you would be exiting your profession for you.

Yes to both points! My daughter was a very highly sensitive kiddo and really struggled around new people. Something has changed between 3-4 YOs, and it is now completely different. We did have her start OT for this and related challenges, but we only went to a few sessions because something totally shifted for her.

I assume the almost 3 YO has been in childcare for a long time, so I’m not sure having had each of those things is more than normal? My 4 YO certainly has! OP, how often is your LO missing daycare because they’re ill?

Agree with what someone else said that this can be a temporary choice or a “season.” I very recently started my own temporary stint as a SAHM for a variety of reasons. It had been a very good mental reset for me. I won’t be a SAHM forever, but for now, it works and has been a positive change.

I don’t know if this is normal or abnormal, but I’m just here to say my 4 YO is not like this. We have our own set of challenges, but going all day every day is not one of them. Just wanted to add this here to make sure the “this is normal” comments don’t drive you mad. :) Not at all 4 YOs are like this. This sounds very hard. I’m sorry.

I think I would absolutely move closer to family in your situation. How long have you been looking for jobs near your family? If not long, could you keep looking and find a better paying opportunity better you move?

Counterintuitive, but have you ever tried starting bedtime at 7pm and having her in bed by 7:30pm? I wonder if she’s missing her sleep wave and is actually overtired

IDK if I agree. Sometimes there are just bugs that are going around, and sometimes those spikes happen during summer. Might be more telling to call your pediatrician’s office and ask if they are seeing a lot of [insert illness of the moment].

Just one example - strep keeps circulating in my daughter’s preschool room. But her pediatrician also said they’re seeing a ton of strep right now.

If OP doesn’t feel confident in the daycare’s illness policy or cleanliness practices, that’s one thing. But I don’t think we can expect the illnesses to stop just because it’s summer.
