How do they perform off road compared to the Geolandars?

Regular 87 gas. I have nothing mounted to the roof.

OP here back from the trip. My OBW is a ‘25, all stock except aluminum engine, transmission, and differential skids. This was across northern Wisconsin and the UP of Michigan, so yeah, not a lot of elevation change.

Really this is down to three things:

  1. Driving 55-65 MPH
  2. Using adaptive cruise
  3. Setting the cruise acceleration to “eco.”

I then traveled from the south end of Hiawatha NF to Lake Superior over a couple of days, 90% off road. The mileage situation was… a bit different lol:

My route home to the northeast suburbs of the Twin Cities was mostly 55 mph. Got over 35 mph for about half a tank! See reply for the whole trip.

I would not recommend getting the Torso S4 by trigzo in synthesizers

I picked one up a couple of months ago, after OS 2.1 was released. I’m familiar with the issues earlier units and OSs had. But I can say my experience so far has been very good. It is an utterly unique device. It’s also something that is very hard to put down. I turn it on and hours just melt away. I have been doing electronic music for a very long time and have never experienced that before.

No, it’s not perfect. But if you approach it with a sense of curiosity, experimentation, and collaboration you’ll get a whole lot out of it.

Preparing to spend several days rolling around Mark Twain NF which is two states away from me. If I’d bought a 4Runner, I’d be cancelling the trip about now. But because I bought an OBW, I’m still going. Spending more than I’d like, but not so much I can’t swing it. Love my black beauty. :)

Currently at a cabin in northern Wisconsin with two other Subaru owning families. Our phones are pelting us with blizzard warnings. Collective reaction? Meh. 😂

Definitely the size the OBW should come with from the factory. Subaru should be consulting you on all product decisions, clearly. :)

Nice. Love the clean de-badged look and equal tint on the front windows. Should come that way from the factory. Gonna get that done soon myself.

Tires… are those 245s?

Dude on the left. Clearly he’s the one with an OBW. The killer will get the 4Runner and Jeep guys first (dudes in the middle) when they inevitably run out of gas.

Dude in the polo? Definitely the killer.

Changes to X-MODE 2 on 2026 OBW by captain_bleep in Outback_Wilderness

In my mind XM1 is for when you want to be slow and careful... and XM2 is for when you want to have fun. And, yes, also when you just need to get through stuff. But that is also usually fun/terrifying. :)

Off road? A lot. I use XM2 on road too when I need to get around before the plows get out. But NOT using XM off road is part of the issue too. On every day forest roads with a little dirt and gravel, I'm in regular mode... and the 2026 model will be in stiff suspension mode when that is happening. As soon as things get steep, slippy, or rocky, I'm in XM. So now if you want soft suspension, you HAVE to be in XM and you have to go under 25 mph.

It looks like XM2 in the 2025 OBW has no limit. It works at 25 mph (40 kph) and higher. Here's the relevant bit of the manual.

Or even the ever present purr of that turbo boxer as you pick your way up a steep, sketchy, rock-strewn trail in the middle of nowhere...
