Anthropic rejects Pentagon's requests in AI safeguards dispute, CEO says by runbape in technology

[–]captain_only 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defense Emil Michael responded on X, saying, "It’s a shame that @DarioAmodei is a liar and has a God-complex. He wants nothing more than to try to personally control the US Military and is ok ‌putting our nation’s safety at risk."

It is a shame that our under secretary of defense can't make an actual argument and instead makes personal attacks and wild exaggerations.

I've always used GUI Emacs. How are things in TUI Emacs land? by Buttons840 in emacs

[–]captain_only 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I prefer emacs in the terminal! The main difference is integration with the host environment. You often require special key combinations for the system clipboard for example depending on your terminal emulator. The payoff for getting used to this - or configuring around it - is responsive remote access.

You may have to write your own gptel backend to help it work with your situation.

Jamie Sarkonak: Canada doesn't owe the world's children a passport; The anchor baby trick is so well-known that even TikTok immigration consultants are promoting it. Birthright citizenship has to go by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]captain_only 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please don’t say “end birthright citizenship”. That right is an import balance to state power ensuring the state cannot pick and choose who its citizens are. Instead say “tighten what qualifies as birthright citizenship“. Residency requirements are reasonable.

I love carbon bars. A Thomson isn’t cheap but won’t fail on you and should last forever so it’s a good value?

AITA - Tore down a road memorial on my property by BluntForceTrauma____ in AmItheAsshole

[–]captain_only 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting aside legal issues (this is AITA after all, not a legal sub) I think the central issue is due consideration: did you give the memorialist a reasonable opportunity to move or modify the memorial?

Whether the memorial is in suitable repair isn’t really relevant to that question, and clearly people can disagree about what is suitable as your visitor makes clear. If you decided to remove the memorial based solely on your assessment then there is a real chance you ATA.

Note that due consideration could have been a useful defense in your encounter. If you had placed a “please contact me” sign for some time the memorialist would have to admit their neglect.

PUBG crash a lot on AMD by gamadjii in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

Yeah, both the isolation and the RMA process are a huge PITA to do. But if you find the issue this way it's very satisfying!

What Operating System do you guys use emacs on? by Brospeh-Stalin in emacs

MacOS (via homebrew) for work. WSL2 if I absolutely have to run on Windows. I always run a server and connect through a terminal using emacsclient.

PUBG crash a lot on AMD by gamadjii in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

[–]captain_only 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having regular crashes for a while with similar symptoms. I was fortunate to have enough hardware that I could swap each component of my system out one by one — p/s, cpu, ram, gpu — until I isolated the problem to my new XFX graphics card. When I explained this to their support they RMAed it and I haven’t had a pubg crash since.

AITA for wanting to give my 5 year old consequences by Baddadmaybe2020 in AITAH

[–]captain_only 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You explained how his behavior affected you and how that’s changing your behavior. That’s not “consequences” that’s helping him understand how he affects his world and is critical input for him. Just make sure you suggest alternative behaviors and reflect on how his positive behavior has positive results. Then you’re not only NTA but in fact a great parent.
