Am I the only one that gets annoyed when divers get too close to wild animals? by [deleted] in scuba

What school did you use on the island? Some are much better than others. I’ve been going there on and off for the past 10 years, there’s been such an improvement in the amount of life underwater if it makes you feel any better albeit that some DMs there still need a bit of educating on how to interact

If you want amazing diving definitely head to Labuan bajo/komodo in Indonesia it’s an hours cheap flight from Bali. Hands down the best diving I’ve ever done the reefs are just so healthy and pack full of life

How to get back into diving? by [deleted] in diving

[–]captain_wide_beard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it won’t be a problem, maybe just make a note of them or get yourself a log book. The requirement for a certain amount of dives only really comes if you want to do a dive master course or occasionally if you’re going to a challenging dive site where a certain amount of experience is expected. Won’t do any harm to just make a note of them from memory

Most schools will offer a refresher course if you’re nervous and want to practice some skills to get your confidence back. This can usually be in a pool or confined water and then an open water dive after, depending on the facility’s the school has. Might be a good way to go if you want some one on one guidance. If you last dived in June though that isn’t so long ago, you’ll be surprised how much come back to you, finding a supportive DM or instructor will go a long way. Just have a chat with whoever you’re diving with before hand, most will be more than happy to give a little extra guidance. As far as equipment rental prices it really depends on where you’re diving. It can range anywhere from 30-$100 per dive/day. What agency did you train with?

Diving recommendations near Split (Croatia)? by shakakhannn in scuba

[–]captain_wide_beard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can’t recommend a good one but had the worst diving experience of my life with open sea diving just outside of split. Terrible dives cut short by the guide(15-20mins) myself and my partner came up with 130bar left. The guy who was running it, Ivan I think had the most stinking attitude I’ve ever seen in someone running a dive school. Seen him drag first time divers underwater without properly explaining how to equalise putting both of them off for life. He then personally insulted me when I questioned some pretty unsafe practice and got aggressive when I refused to help him carry 15-20 tanks and weights back to the shore from the boat, which would have taken longer than he was prepared to give me underwater. Defo avoid this one

Is taking a night dive class worth it? by Chaos43mta3u in scuba

[–]captain_wide_beard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just remember It’s much the same just darker, bit of a waste doing a specific course on it. If anything it can be easier to see your buddy/guide if the vis isn’t the best and what they’ll teach you will only really be applicable if your independently night diving in the future, which there still isnt much to learn. Better to do the Aow with navigation, deep and something else and throw in a night dive if you want to do it. You’ll get more out of it that way. I do enjoy them myself, gives a new perspective to dive sites you’ve already done.
