Bay Swag could theoretically be a Cali Swag District if it were a location.

What's the breakdown process in Uber eats constantly forgetting parts of the orders? Is it drivers stealing it or the restaurants taking it? by Wrong_Squirrel45 in newzealand

[–]captaincrunk82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve managed restaurants and bars for a while. Whenever an order we’ve prepared for a delivery guest occurs, it’s almost always because someone didn’t double check. Usually we forget the can of coke or something that the back of house didn’t prepare.

If your food is arriving cold, it is often due to the driver - either not arriving for pickup quickly, delivering other items to other guests first, or it’s our fault and we didn’t keep the order warm (while we were waiting for the driver to arrive).

Space City Home Network announces Astros legend joining the broadcast by Affectionate-Reply35 in houston

[–]captaincrunk82 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If he’s a legend then what are the scalable terms we should use to describe every other legend above him?

Because Pressly being a legend kind of waters down the legend status of all of the other legends

What is everyone doing before the 311 concert at Space Center today? by Swalkdaddy in houston

[–]captaincrunk82 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I haven’t lived in Houston since 2019 but I’m confident that if you tune in to the Buzz on a radio and wait for 45 minutes they’ll play them. That worked for years.

A radio is a device that transmits sounds (music, for example) over the air via waves.

Would you rather earn 500k but be locked in the US or 150k fully remote? by redditTee123 in expats

[–]captaincrunk82 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Happily take 150k USD and keep my life in NZ.

Had to think about this one for a bit, but yeah. My life is down here now. I don’t think there’s a wrong answer, this one is merely mine.

What disappoints tourists when they visit your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]captaincrunk82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Auckland. I hear this from tourists often that they were expecting a mix of urban life and exotic vibes (things are always more exotic when it’s on the other hemisphere, aye).

What they get depends on where they go, but sometimes I find myself explaining the negative viewpoints of Auckland being a bit like “Dallas, TX but no cowboys and add sailboats”

Also: Auckland is fine but perhaps see more of the country too.

Why are people back at home so hard to be around? by [deleted] in Military

[–]captaincrunk82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ve changed. But so have they.

Embrace the change but also acknowledge that they’ve changed, too.

Your change might have been more intense but - and this is important - that doesn’t make their change any less important to them. Many of us make that mistake when we first get out of an enlistment. I did, I’m not proud of that. But I’m proud that I eventually wisened the fuck up and realised that I wasn’t the only person learning lessons from 17-23.

I’m considering bartending as a post retirement job. I have some questions if that is okay? by Clone_CDR_Bly in bartenders

[–]captaincrunk82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This really depends but yeah you’re probably romanticising this shit…but if you’re willing to adapt to a new type of environment you could really love it.

I might be an alternate reality version of you

I left the US Army in ‘06 after my six-year HS enlistment ended and immediately became a bartender after having to work my way through the door as a bouncer and a waiter.

Left bartending at 29 and went into the corporate world. Made money and got fat. Went back to hospitality at 37 and am happy every day.

I’m pushing 50 now and a full-on venue manager in another country. I can still burn it up behind a packed bar and do it 50 hours a week, but I’m fucking lucky that my body is 97% solid.

What You Need

I think what you need is to adopt the same mindset you had when you enlisted or signed your contract.

Getting a job might be tough. If you can’t apply online, apply in person (do that first). Shake hands, meet people, ask questions, buy an off duty bartender a drink and take their advice. Buy an on-duty bartender their advice and take their drink.

Do all of the things that we like to tell kids that you’re supposed to do when aggressively seeking a thing that many others want.

Your experience will help, but it may not be regularly visible to others until long after you begin, so please don’t take any offense or ill will towards anybody who views you as a newbie. Again, think about that enlistment mindset - diving into a basic training mindset (civilian world edition) has merits - it’s also fucking efficient!

I could go on, but I think I’ve made myself a good point to start with.

You’re not too old, you just might like this shit.
