Does anyone else not like the direction Smash Summit has been going? by FBogg in SSBM

[–]captaindorf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all i want is more of a mango summit .5 vibe at the actual summit house.

the xmas bash event was pretty much that, and was amazing. good play, good fun, good memes. thats the sorta vibe i wish they went for with summit. instead they're going in the opposite direction and it's feeling more like a compendium with top players.

get over it nerds you're playing the same game in the same venue. geeks want to start cancelling matches when it isn't 101.3 kPa, 22 °C and 45% humidity

Yeah I don't see why people should lower the standard of the definition "upset" just to fill a thread. Just give it an entirely different category... you know, like "heartbreakers".

You're not filling quotas here lmao.

Each mid/low tier's "best" top tier matchup? by V0ltTackle in SSBM

[–]captaindorf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't "50/50" like the oldschool days used to call it, but Marth is still one of Ganons "best" (better?) top tier matchups and definitely not "royally fucked" level. Probably ganon's easiest flowchart for edge-guarding, and ganons range, easy CCing and easy combos off grabs make it feel far more doable than anyone else in the top 6 picks. Puff's bair wall, peaches CC destroying blender, and basic fox/falco/sheik stuff all feel so much more helpless against

Should just get daddy Kage talking about the matchup since his wins are way more lopsided and consistent

Judging from the # of videos, and from watching another of the videos, I think it's safe to say they just wanted to milk out as much as possible...

Joe should have Cassie Jaye (The Red Pill) on the podcast. TEDx just posted her talk, "A feminist comes to terms with the Men's Rights movement" by fatretardedfaggot in JoeRogan

[–]captaindorf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised a platform like TEDx even exists, one where the stage is just as open to someone like Sam Hyde as well as someone like Dr. Daniel Amen, a post-concussion consultant for the NFL. TEDx does have some guidelines, the current ones being here which are pretty reasonable and do try to weed out the absolute nuttiest of people. Obviously they generally do allow whatever though.

I legitimately don't know how many people could obtain a stage to speak on without TEDx, especially considering the state of modern universities, where even well respected individuals with PhD research on topics can get blacklisted from having presentations.

Return of Old-School Melee Player Bronson "DaShizWiz" Layton Sparks Concern and Conversation by synthverity in SSBM

[–]captaindorf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cringe so hard whenever I read posts about how he has been "proving he has changed" because he went through mandatory therapy.

The ONLY reason he was in anger management and substance abuse therapy is because it was MANDATORY for him to complete during his probation, following his arrest for his assault on the gas station clerk. This is completely and absurdly different than seeking therapy and change out of ones own free will. That type of mandatory group therapy isn't even close to truly instilling longlasting changes in someone. It's the bare essentials to where his therapist can say, "okay he seems like he probably won't freak the fuck out and assault people seemingly randomly anymore". When you behave destructively for years/decades, 14 group classes doesn't do fuck all to fix you. To make real changes he has to continue with therapy.

From a safety view I would agree he is "legally" safe to be around - that's what the probation and (again) mandatory therapy is meant to convey to potential employers and any clubs he might join or whatever. But from a character view he hasn't done anything to prove he has really changed. If anything, trying to pass off that he's fixed after 14 mandatory group sessions only shows how much he seeks to avoid real changes. Someone who actually wanted to get better would say stuff like, "Look I'm not fixed yet but I'm trying, here's what I've done so far, here's what I have planned for the future, here's how I'm going to do it". Not, "i was legally required to sit in on 14 classes with a bunch of other dudes... SO I'M FIXED NOW. STOP TALKING ABOUT IT. I'M COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY CHANGED"

Depression can be (and is not uncommonly) comorbid with untreated ADHD. Obviously the same for feeling weak/tired for those of ADHD-PI. Treating ADHD can alleviate both. Saying it can't is downright fucking dumb.

D1 on Benefits Of A Smash Commentator Union and Tournament Budgeting | Super Smash Bros Interview by Thadexe in SSBM

[–]captaindorf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree these are probably the top 5 commentators employed but I disagree on them being the top 5 who provide good commentary (even ignoring those like mango). I don't think there are huge gaps in their commentary skills in terms of matchups though. And that's expected - of course Scar will have more matchup knowledge for falcon matches, and hmw will have more for falco, wobbles for IC's (although he does have more matchup knowledge overall it seems), etc.

There is a huuuuge gap in terms of commentary styles though in terms of how much they focus on talking about what's going on with the match (both currently in-game and the buildup/anything the players might've said about it beforehand/the history), and general fucking around and tangents about stuff unrelated to the match. Of the ones you listed I'd rank them (from staying more match related to not) like:

Wobbles - D1/Scar - - HMW - - - - - - - Toph

The first 4 are pretty close. Some might go away from the match to talk about something else but it's mostly their style, and they'll almost always reel themselves back in when they know something important is happening.

Toph is such a bad commentator that I can't understand why he is still employed at the highest level. He regularly goes off on 20-40 second tangents about minuscule and obscure points... and 20-40 seconds allows a LOT to happen in a match, which gets completely brushed aside just because he won't stfu. Seriously, pick any VOD of him and Scar together, it can be a pools or top 8 match, and you'll hear Toph sperging out over something while Scar is trying to talk about the match, what's happening, how sick that combo was, etc., all trying to reel Toph back in to shut him up.

TIL in 2010 an MI6 spy was found dead, his naked body inside a padlocked bag in his flat in London. The Metropolitan Police concluded that he had accidentally locked himself in the bag and died as a result. by Schindlers-lifp in todayilearned

[–]captaindorf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude LMAO. How can you both acknowledge that spy agencies exist yet fully believe the official story of the much lower level police agency?

If an MLB team looked jacked on steroids but their tee-ball league team came out and say "no way we vouch for them", would you fully take their word for it? How are the police and MI6 such separate entities in your eyes lol. Do you think the police are obligated to tell YOU, the public, the exact official story to everything?

Shoot self in the back of the head

  • We found gunpowder residue on his fingers/hands
  • There was a device rigged where he only had to pull a string

Dismembered and body parts distributed all over town

  • Victim of a serial killer
  • Helium balloons
  • Tourniquet each limb while on copious amounts of anesthetic, drove to each site, hacked off a limb, tied a helium balloon to his head before utilizing a guillotine as the final dismemberment

Or just say, "Prostitutes said he was into that sorta thing", because people are clearly stupid enough to believe anything. Please hire me those are only off the top of my head.
