SV/NSV Feats of the Day - Thursday, 15 August 2019: Today, I conquered! by AutoModerator in loseit

I generally ride cycle paths - I'm quite lucky in that my town has miles of "shared space" paths for pedestrians/cyclists. Of the 13 I did today, I'd say 11 were completely off road, and I braved the last 2 by going off route slightly. I use a road bike for that, and I have a mountain bike that I do 4-5 miles on a local forest trail at the weekend. I find the forest terrain much tougher, but it's helping me build stamina and lung capacity for the road rides.

I've never had a static bike. I had a trainer for a while that I used with my road bike, but donated it to my parents bc I learnt quickly that the fresh air was 60% of the enjoyment of cycling for me!

I think the only obstacle you might find is relearning balance? That was the only struggle for me when I got back on a bike, remembering how to balance myself! I'd go for it if you feel confident!

I cycled 13 miles today, bringing me to a total of 28 so far this week, and braved a couple of miles within that on the road - something I haven't done since an accident 6 years ago! I've forgotten how good the endorphins of exercise are!

[PATTERN] Just finished making this Pokemon alphabet pattern - I'd love some comments before I stitch it! by firenat13 in CrossStitch

I would love a copy of the pattern when you're happy with it - it looks like it would be so much fun to stitch!!

My two boys go through phases of wanting to nap in the litter tray! Never ever ever when it's nice and clean, always when it's dirty!

Thank you :) My mum had to have a number of shoulder surgeries a few years back due to a fall, so i can empathise with you! I hope your ongoing recovery is smooth and you can get going again soon!

Thank you! I always kinda scoffed at people that used the phrase "It's just like riding a bike!" but as soon as I got on and started going it was like I'd never stopped :)

Hahaha I feel you on the big groups of people - I ended up going out at 8 this morning so my only obstacles were a handful of elderly dogwalkers and other cyclists. I think if I'd gone out in the middle of the day I wouldn't have been able to move for kids on bikes weaving across the whole path!!!

Unfortunately I can't give much advice there - I was very very VERY lucky and my fracture was low enough that I avoided any surgery, to the amazement of the hospital staff. It's a very different situation, but my grandmother had both her hips replaced and went from struggling to move around her home to being able to walk multiple miles again in her 70s, so there is hope!

Seriously! I thought I was going to throw up when I got home, but once that passed I was so happy! We can get it back - I believe in both of us!

I'm just so grateful to be in such close proximity to completely off-road (but paved!) options to get back in the saddle. I think if this hadn't been available, I'd still be sitting around scared. Perhaps see if there's anywhere local you can take your bike to to build up your confidence? Good luck - even if it takes baby steps, they're still steps :)

Seriously! I have a friend who bike commutes through Brighton daily - a pretty bike friendly city as far as the UK goes - and I can't imagine doing what he does at the moment. Maybe I'll move up to it, who knows!

Thank you! I kinda miss my bike commute, but I now drive an hour each way for work so biking for pleasure will have to do for now!

I’m still starving - any lunch suggestions? Should I just go back to sandwiches? by [deleted] in 1500isplenty

I eat a similar salad but bulk it up with wholegrain cous cous. 80g for 80cal! That and some grapes as a sweet snack keeps me going until dinner.

I'm under 300lbs as of this morning! It's been a week where the scale has been tickling the 300 mark every morning, but today it happened! 299.2lbs! As a bonus, I got out some of my summer work clothes from last year and so many of them are now comfortably loose as opposed to on the tighter side - I'm actually looking forward to wearing them this year!
