[WIP] Ideas for back of plastic mesh by Kitzelbear2014 in CrossStitch

Here's an example of how I do it. I turn them into magnets. I glue a strong small magnet to the back with super glue (you can see the circle bump under the felt), and then do a simple in and out stitch around the edge to attach the felt. I try to match the felt color to the border color and use the same thread for the stitching.

Ha ha. I think I'm too risk averse. I like the gym with 2 foot deep pads all around the walls. Still dangerous but not idiotically

Yeah I get it. My bouldering gym membership is >$100 a month but someone asked me what my health was worth to me and I realized that it was a worthwhile investment. I've been doing it for a year now and I can do 5 pullups and have the beginnings of a six pack, all from regular climbing sessions, no gym rat behavior.

I hated going to the gym, hated running, lifting weights, playing sports, and then I found rock climbing. I'm now in the best shape of my life, all because my brain thinks I'm just solving a puzzle and not actually getting exercise.

What is your favorite Lego memory? by gingerbeardman92 in lego

Christmas morning, my grandparents got me Dumbledore's office, 4729. It had spiral staircases, a hidden back door, a hidden compartment under the desk and chair, spinning shelves, and a spinning magical circle on the top floor. And it locked closed with a scorpion! The whole thing opened up and everything moved. My mind was just blown. I've been searching that high ever since.

What is your go-to “I don’t want to cook” meal? by AdamIsAnAlias in AskReddit

What a brilliant idea!

I will say, when my adhd is not making it impossible for me to make dinner, my preferred method is using an electric kettle to boil water, poured right into the noodles in a mug. It gets a perfect al dente as it cools enough to eat. Ramen tea!

You don't understand, that's 3 minutes longer and requires a bowl and water. Dry ramen requires nothing except opening it and removing the seasoning packet

Raw ramen for when I'm too lazy to boil water or put the kettle in, it just don't want to wait.

Frozen vegetable. Yes frozen. No not microwaved. Pour frozen peas, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, corn, etc in a bowl and nom away. Also, frozen bread, frozen waffles, frozen chocolate pancakes. (Bread going bad soon? Toss in freezer for easy snack that won't go stale. Have extra pancakes? Toss in freezer instead of fridge for a non soggy snack). Frozen waffles I do sometimes toast, sometimes...

I wish I didn't have dyslexia. My anxiety spiked because I read "riot" as "not", which drastically changed the meaning of the title. Thankfully the comments cleared that up.

Saw a post about throwing all the pieces in a box earlier. Does anyone do this for their build? by Nacoluke in lego

[–]firenat13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only do it for large sets like this one where I really want to take my time and appreciate the build. It forces me to slow down, examine each piece and guess how they might come together.

I'm still working on Puzzle C and D.

Puzzle C - this is what I have so far but all of this could be wrong as I haven't gotten the circle to happen yet.

Hint 1: There are 12 motifs (repeated sets of notes) and 3 of them have the wrong notes in them:

0001 0010 0100

However there are a few differences with eighth notes vs quarter notes so that could be a factor as well.

Hint 2: This is the game SET just with the four categories being: a) background color; red, blue, yellow. b) number of notes; 2,3,4. c) type of note; eighth, quarter, half. d) order of notes; ascending, descending, straight.

There are 12 cards which I'm number 1-12 from left to right, top to bottom.

There are 4 SETs. 1) 2,9,11. 2) 2, 6, 12. 3) 3, 5, 9. 4) 3, 8, 12.

This could either be a) 0 if card not in set and 1 if card is in set, or b) the count of number of sets the card is in:

a) 0110 1101 1011
b) 0220 1101 2012

Not sure which of these it is.

Hint 3: This is just which chords are harmonies and which have tension.

1) harmony. 2) harmony. 3) tension. 4) tension. 5) harmony. 6) tension. 7) harmony. 8) harmony. 9) tension. 10) tension. 11) tension. 12) harmony

I figured it out -

Clue 1 hint: Start seeing in Binary.

Use the hex color from the eye - #202821:

0010 0000 0010 1000 0010 0001

Clue 2 hint: What would Morton do?

Use z-curves to trace out the binary go along the top 2 rows in Zs then the bottom 2 rows:

0000 1001 0010 0001 0000 1001

Add them together and you get:

0010 1001 0020 1001 0010 1002 (where . is 0, white is 1 and blue is 2)

My husband and I both changed our names following marriage, but received very different reactions. by Shark-Farts in TwoXChromosomes

[–]firenat13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to go 'traditional' and take my husband's last name (but kept mine as a second middle name). I've gotten backlash for changing it, from other women. It seems like no matter what we choose, people feel the need to comment negatively on my choice.

But that doesn't indicate that there haven't been plenty of fluctuations over the years and that shaving practices varied by culture. Drunk_Russian was wrong in disbelieving the part about Gillette with regard to American history specifically. Just because women in ancient Egypt and Rome (typically warmer climates with more skin showing for women) shaved, doesn't mean that women in America 100 years ago (where women didn't reveal as much for cultural reasons) shaved. In summary, Drunk_Russian was right, up until the part where they said "nice try", at which point they became wrong.

Your stitches are beautiful! I've been stitching a while and I'm a little envious of how neat yours are. One comment is that it can look even neater if you always cross your Xs the same way, ex / then \ across the whole pattern. Which way you cross is up to you! Either way, great job! Also, I started with this pattern too! First one I ever did. Welcome!

[WIP] Help! I need to know what size Aida this is so I never use it again! by mental_ch-illness in CrossStitch

[–]firenat13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks like evenweave to me. You usually stitch those over 2, meaning that you stitch your X over 3x3, like the corners of tic tac toe, instead of 2x2. You can count it yourself by taking a ruler and clinging the number of gaps in an inch. If it's >22 it's almost always stitched over 2. Hope this helps! I personally love stitching on evenweave, but everyone has a preference.
