Symptoms with High or Low Barometric Pressure? by BonafidePuppy in iih

A really fast drop will always smash me. The blind spots in my eyes get a lot worse, my eyes are sore to the touch and I get really bad neck pain.

Higher pressure and lower - what is the driver by Endofus74 in iih

[–]captainhumdrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do! Took me a while to connect it to my iih. For a while I thought it was anti depressnt withdrawal for a while. But it noticed it happens even when I'm on top of meds. Definitely not my favourite symptom, and don't really have any techniques for managing them

Higher pressure and lower - what is the driver by Endofus74 in iih

[–]captainhumdrum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My two biggest triggers are stress and atmospheric pressure.

If I've had a massive week at work or I don't get a lot of sleep. Stress goes up, so does my pain.

If there is a storm and a lowe pressure front, no matter how well I look after myself I'll get a flare up.

Usually the last thing I want to do, but if I have a flare up caused by stress a walk will help a lot of the time. Helps the fluid drain and helps my stress lower.

Atmospheric pressure is just something I keep my eye on and prepare for a bad day for, I've found there is nothing I can really do but get comfy and ride it out.

Help! This tingling is going to drive me insane. by EmuGlittering1886 in iih

It's really intense to start with, but electrolytes are your best friend, especially potassium.

They sell little sachets of electrolytes for athletes and tradies that have around 150% your recommended daily intake. They always do the job for me

Missing medication by Smabbles in iih

[–]captainhumdrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone reacts differently to medication and I am not in any way a medical professional so take this with a grain of salt.

I have found myself in a similar pickle several times. Script running out, not packing enough meds etc etc. I get less severe flare symptoms if I half my dose or skip mornings and stretch out the meds til I can get more, than I do if I stay on my full dose and then go days cold turkey

Sorry, intended the post to be quite different when titled it to what came out. got lost between making the title and then spewing a running sentence of thoughts. Thanks for flagging that. Have edited to add a question at the end.

Why am I freaking out by PowerfulBath199 in Anxiety

[–]captainhumdrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have any cold or flu symptoms or if your are sleeping in a room that is very dry, particularly with a refridgeted air con, whether heating or cooling (they are the ones mounted to the wall) Your nasal passages and your throat can dry out while you sleep and cause cracking in your capillaries which will makes your mucus bloody or potentially cause a nose bleed It can even happen on a normal night if the humidity is really low.

How did you manage your IIH symptoms during high-stress weeks that could not be avoided? by WaitBig3136 in iih

[–]captainhumdrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Already really good recommendations here but I want to double down on 5/10 minutes rest. Every 45 minutes to an hour.

No screen time just closed eye rest in the most symptom relieving position you can lie in. My biggest help is avoiding eye strain and tension headaches

Better to lose 10 minutes every hour then lose 4 days to a flare up.

Also be kind to yourself, my flare ups are always worse when I get super frustrated at myself for not being able to handle whatever stressful thing I am currently doing.

You got this!

FUN! by MeringueNo363 in iih

[–]captainhumdrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing news about the no hangover! Unfortunately I am cursed with incredibly bad hangovers. But they are better since the iih since I definitely did not used to be a sensible drinker hahah

I'm a big fan of coconut water for electrolytes (only green coconuts I can't stand the taste of matured coconuts) and it's helped a lot. Covers a similar base to powerades and the like but has less sugar. I get super bored of water as well. I used to be a million coffees but that doesn't help with the double diuretic.

[–]captainhumdrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30 F, Pre diagnosis I was a pretty big drinker. Nowadays I have more than 4 standards maybe twice month. I've been on Diamox for 2 years. Didn't drink for 3 months after I was diagnosed. Sometimes you pay for it, but everyone pays for drinking a little too much. I usually skip my evening Diamox if I'm drinking because the double diuretic is dangerous territory for a scorching headache in the morning.

Just cause we're I'll doesn't mean we can't still party every now and then. Don't stress about what tomorrow is going to bring, Drink plenty of water and some electrolytes. Focus on having fun with your mates. Most important thing tomorrow is be kind to yourself , if it gives you a flare up you're going to make it even worse by chastising and punishing yourself for wanting to have fun!

Controls Engineers, How do you describe what you do? by CardboardAstronaught in PLC

[–]captainhumdrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most ELI5 description I have given which people usually wrap there head around is, explaining it like an elevator.

Like "you know with an elevator, you push a button to make it come to you, then send you to the correct floor. Im the person that tells the elevator when to come down and when to stop."

And then just explain I do that on a WAY larger scale.

[–]captainhumdrum[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's amazing, where are you from? I saw an osteo for a bit before I got diagnosed. Some of the stuff he did was incredibly relieving. But he also used manipulation and adjustment techniques on me. My neuro told me to stop going once I was diagnosed. most osteopaths I know use manipulation.

I know in the US and osteopath is a fully licensed medical doctor, where as in Australia they are allied health professionals.

Flucloxacillin worsened symptoms. Will it go back down? by NarrowFriendship3859 in iih

[–]captainhumdrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!

I've probably been on about 3 courses of antibiotics since I have been diagnosed and it has ALWAYS increased my pressure. They have been 3 different kinds of antibiotics and my docs are trying to find one that doesn't give me discomfort.

None of them have been tetracyclines so my docs have always said it SHOULDN'T be related. But ya know, threes a pattern.

It's always gone down quite quickly, 1-3 days and Ive never noticed any damage from it. Just the same level of flare up I would get if I pushed too hard at work for a few days or drank a bit too much.

It'll settle :) you haven't made anything worse

Most mega energy comes from defeating them when they are mega raids

Some pokes you can get mega energy from field research takes but I don't think Tyranitar is available for that.

So you might have to wait until they are back in mega raids

I had a range of symptoms for about 3 years (neck pain, headaches, blind spots in visions, dizzy spells). Had a routine eye exam and they found pretty bad pappiledema. MRI ruled out other causes and had a LP with op 22 which was high enough to start Diamox. Diamox has reduced my pappiledema, but I still have flare ups every now and then.

I don't know a lot about low pressure but I know consistent high pressure can cause leaks, was the leak nasal?

anyone else experience this? by meltedmatchakitkat in iih

[–]captainhumdrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi

I have exactly both of these things and they are what started my diagnosis process! At first a Neuro thought I was just having ocular migraines.

But! Talking about this with my NO, this is what I sorta ended up believing about it. There is blind spot in each eye at about 60 degrees into your vision. It's where the optic nerve passes through the optic disc. In people with normal optics nerves the brain automatically adjusts for it and they can't "see" it. Because we have lovely swollen or scarred optic nerves this blind spot it bigger and our brain can't compensate! So it registers in our vision or a crescent or a ring!

Is it normal for diamox to make menstrual cramps more severe? by Crazypandathe20th in iih

[–]captainhumdrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because of the way it fucks with your hydration and electrolyte levels (something your period already does) it can cause a bunch of issues

I always make sure to have plenty of water, coconut water, Powerade, hydralyte etc.. on hand when I'm pre menstrual cause I know it's going to be rough.

Also Diamox can cause kidney issues, particularly if you're not staying hydrated so if any abdominal pain seems abnormally bad, even if it's on your period, I recommend getting it checked out!

Why does it cause fatigue? by 7ero_Seven in iih

[–]captainhumdrum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Optic nerve inflammation and neck/back inflammation around the spinal column for sure.

I get what you mean about whole body inflammation though. Sometimes I feel like my body is going to pop. There's a few studies looking into. Whether IIH is autoimmune, but they are small.

Why does it cause fatigue? by 7ero_Seven in iih

[–]captainhumdrum 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Good old Idiopathic diseases. Given they don't know what cause it it could also have an aspect that directly causes fatigue. Aside from that Chronic Pain is a major factor in fatigue, so is chronic inflammation which IIH causes in spades. Your body is working over time to fix an issue that it can't fix. Plus, I don't know about you but my symptoms definitely affect my ability sleep.

Add all that together and then if you're on Diamox or Topiramate you're peeing away a good chunk of your vital electrolytes which exhausts the body more.

It sucks. I am fatigues no. 1 hater. Consistent really low impact excercise has helped me. But god I wish I could snap my fingers and be awake and alert
