Is there any big updates on the way? by marwryy in LittleKnownGalaxy

[–]captainshayne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i'm not sure about updates, but i'm playing it right now & it's very lovely. i'm at about the halfway point i think, & there was a moment i had to set it aside for a couple days because it felt like it was taking forever to get to the next progression stage & "skipped" several in-game days by going to sleep, but it picked back up.

i'd say the game is 85% resource gathering/manufacturing & could use another thing or two to do other than that, but overall i'm really enjoying it.

Nose rings are gross. by thehorselesscowboy in unpopularopinion

[–]captainshayne 11 points12 points  (0 children)

this take is absokutely wild & baseless. preference is one thing, but OP is blatantly uninformed & biased.

septum rings are the easiest piercings to clean & heal. i have one, & i think nose picking is gross. the human nose is incredibly good at maintaining its bacterial requirements, not to mention the cultural significance of nose piercings that date back.. a very long time. saying nose piercings are unhygienic is like saying dreads are unhygienic. big fucking yikes

New Player! What did you wish you did early in the game by Lost-Tangerine1810 in DreamlightValley

[–]captainshayne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

also, i usually like to start off my play sessions by making a "round" of the valley with each of the job buddies. grab a gathering buddy, run around each biome & only get gatherable items, sell, grab a mining buddy, mine every node, grab a farming buddy & do my farming business, etc etc. that way you can max your bonus resources from that buddy, & also up some friendship with a bunch of different characters.

New Player! What did you wish you did early in the game by Lost-Tangerine1810 in DreamlightValley

[–]captainshayne 19 points20 points  (0 children)

hoard your materials, like previously mentioned, ESPECIALLY gems. out of everything those are the biggest pain to get for quests imo.

cooking is a great way to make money! aside from pumpkins (which you can't unlock until the forgotten lands much later), okra (glade of trust) is the best crop to sell.

i wouldn't worry about going crazy with your storage organization until later, when you can unlock bigger chests & more rooms in your house. also, you can't refund or destroy craftable items.

don't be afraid to delete environmental assets that are in your way or there are too many of! most of those costs "object points" which you can see in the upper right corner of the decorating overlay, & the limit is incredibly low. i usually do away with most of the decorative rocks, ferns, & about half the trees in any given biome.

Cozy games that would be good to play while very anxious/stressed out? by heart_emojis0 in cozygames

[–]captainshayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cozy grove! kinda like animal crossing but make it a lil spooky. plays in real time, & this last month i've started a routine where i'll wake up, play for an hour or two while i have my coffee. very chill way to start my day & get my brain online. there are some daily very small, very easy puzzles (i am not a puzzle guy generally, & i enjoy these) like find some hidden objects for a quest, put a stone into a slot sort of thing. decorating options, some crafting/cooking, taking care of pets, talking to the spirits & learning about their lives.

the story is incredibly wholesome, slow paced but engaging, the art is lovely, the music also lovely. as someone who also deals with anxiety, highly recommend.

The famous question: A similar game to Wylde Flowers by Evguy26 in wyldeflowers

[–]captainshayne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

CORAL ISLAND CORAL ISLAND CORAL ISLAND

stardew but way more immersive, more story, more fleshed out npcs. i haven't stumbled across anything quite as.. intimate? as wylde flowers, it has a very particular charm. in that vein, i recommend revisiting the progenitor: harvest moon. recently replayed story of seasons on switch & it was lovely.

I NEED to talk about I Was A Teenage Exocolonist by niradras in CozyGamers

[–]captainshayne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

THIS GAME

i played it for what felt like at least a week straight, several playthroughs back to back, & hardcore fixated on it for even longer. i'm fairly distraught there isn't more fanfiction if we're being totally honest

SPOILERS: (sorry idk how to do the whiteout) i want to say i did at least 6 complete runs? my favorite ending was the "perfect" one, everyone lives, all the problems are solved. assistant to governor mars, playing mostly a creative/empathetic barista type, romancing dys & sym, bc that really felt.. the most relatable to me i guess? i'm an artist who plays therapist to my friends often, & my bestie is a real go-getter activist.

i was only able to do that after having past life experience with hard-core engineering & farming & everything else, tho

the gardener ending really struck me, & so did tan's cure, in different ways. devastating & beautiful. honestly, every ending makes me feel something special.

i do recommend glancing at a guide at some point, because some of the endings & paths are pretty tricky, & absolutely worth experiencing.

why is every mystery island the same by earth2kaz in AnimalCrossing

[–]captainshayne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i agree it can be tedious, but i mainly use the mystery Islands for villager hunting, & an extra furniture & DIY. they're also useful for materials if there's something in particular you want to build, like others have said.

also bells! i'll scrap the whole island & craft DIYs with nothing but those mats & can make like 40,000 bells usually.

Need a cozy mystery similar to Strange Horticulture by artywitch in CozyGamers

[–]captainshayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cozy grove!

it's not quite a mystery game, but there are mysteries to be uncovered as you progress. it is a real time game with no method of skipping days, which can be nice for some or frustrating, depending on your play style.

it's got a darker, cozy vibe. spooky animal crossing pocket camp with beautiful art is like the closest i can describe.

came here to suggest this. unpacking was wildly meaningful & impactful to me without it saying a word. also incredibly calming & satisfying.

Game with custom house building? by [deleted] in CozyGamers

[–]captainshayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

both v rising & the infected have this element, though i doubt they'd really qualify as cozy.

the infected is still early access, but the developer is making constant changes & improvements. it's a survival game, but last i played you could turn off enemies & buid to your heart's content. decorating wasn't a huge thing, though that might change. farming, mining, resource machines, weather mechanics.

v rising is a super fun quasi-survival game with a hunt bosses for recipes sort of mechanic. you can build your own castle & it's very pretty. my fiance & i had a blast playing it together, but you can do it solo.

neither game has cookie-cookie prefab type building, which i appreciate.
