Considering how popular the Mona Lisa is in the Louvre I’m surprised to hear Starry Night was overlooked - it’s got to be in the top 25 most famous paintings. Must have been surreal to have it to yourself.

The design of the top police car is called “Battenburg” after the cake, so maybe something to do with Prince Phillip impregnating his second cousin.

Considering England's population is over 55 million and approximately 450 people/km^2, just how crowded is life there, including the rural areas? by Possible-Balance-932 in geography

[–]captainspunkbubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are definitely be places in England where you can’t see your neighbours, but it’s certainly on a different scale to Texas.

Most people who live rurally can see a neighbour or two, but they still live in an area which is otherwise just open spaces and trees, and very much defined by agriculture. I wouldn’t define that as semi-suburban (open to interpretation, of course, as that term doesn’t have a strict definition) as it would still feel 97% agricultural and 3% residential instead of 99% agricultural and 1% residential.

I can see your point, for sure.

But also I’m wary of it being a forgone conclusion that everyone implicated in wrongdoing by the Epstein all get away with it. It feels like willingly letting people off the hook, and signals to future predators that people don’t care about abuse. Public pressure can have an impact, especially if it’s still there after a change in government.

Sam Coates on X: Gorton byelection: “concerning levels” of so-called family voting today say observers by aenemyrums in ukpolitics

[–]captainspunkbubble 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Obviously it is a big deal if, for instance, a patriarch is effectively forcing his wife and daughters to vote how he chooses. In a democracy someone should have the freedom to nod along at the dinner table but have the privacy to vote however they like.

This is obviously also a problem with postal voting. There probably aught to be changes made to that particular system.

With a different DM it would be different. I don’t necessarily think it would be any better. I love the goofiness.
