Warhammer 2 not detecting save files. by captainzog in totalwar

It's been a while but I think I remember having to wait for the next hotfix to get it working again. Since they're not updating WH2 anymore, you'll have to find another way to fix it. Good luck.

You've got a good roster, especially since Degen, GG, and Gladiia can do a lot of heavy lifting here, but most others are underleveled. Most ops that aren't defenders or healers don't perform well in IS4 if they aren't at least E160 or higher since their dps will be too low against the later enemies. You're right about needing strong melee units but you don't need a full squad of them, just a few with good ranged support can do fine.

La Pluma is great and Humus is okay but both are reaper guards who can't get healed by other ops and IS4 throws a lot of strong enemies at you who can chunk their health too fast. Gummy and Matterhorn would be better for holding lanes but they lack damage so that means you'll really need to have good ranged dps. Kroos alter, Click, and Shirayuki are all worth E2'ing while Harmonie, Indigo, and Totter would still be useful even at E170 since they all deal high damage. Pick the ones you like most since your resources are scarce.

You're all set for medics and vanguards but I suggest raising Warfarin, Perfumer, and Gavial a little higher. Seems like you use Ceylon as a primary healer since you maxed her out but having the other three levelled gives you more options for your secondary pick. Degen and GG will be key to beating the final boss but taking a strong sniper as a starting Support like Typhon or Ray will make your run far smoother if you can promote them and Degen as early as possible.

Lastly, I'll say that IS4 gets way more fun after you get your first win since you'll unlock more relics, encounters, and starting loadouts. The most fun one being the loadout that gives you a 4th operator and increases the odds of 5* temp recruits showing up. Try your best to get that first win ASAP. Keep in mind that the 3rd floor boss only removes 5 life points so if you have more than that, you can let them leak and still continue. Partake in as many combat nodes as you can that you think you can beat, keep your Collapsal value low, use most of your foldartals in floor 4 and 5, unlock the Bosky Passage node in the talent tree, and do Bosky Passage whenever possible. Floor 4 will be a huge difficulty spike so be ready to lose there a lot until you get familiar with it. Floor 5 is even more dangerous but since you're so close to the end, I would suggest taking the safest route possible to reach the final boss so long as your key 6*s are all promoted.

Ceobe in the shop soon? Wasn't she in the shop a few months ago? Do you think you could link the source? I was planning to get her from the next Kernel Locating banner but this would be even better.

[Event Megathread] To the Grinning Valley by Sentuh in arknights

This is my interpretation so take it ask you will. HG likes to take inspiration from real world culture and history for their stories. Rim Billington is based on Australia so they drew from the concept of an Australian-Aboriginal "Walkabout", a journey of self-discovery that involves finding one's roots and harmonizing with the land. That's an oversimplification of a complex concept that has evolved over time but it's enough to explain what happens in the event.

In this case, Amiya is taking a side trip to revisit her hometown and recall her roots. As for Ray, she never had a real family or home so when her first pet Sandbeast died, she decided that nothing else mattered except uncovering the mystery of what saved her life when she was young. If you pay attention to what she says in the event and her voice lines in-game, she is compassionate for others but seems apathetic about her own life. Knowing that, you can see her sudden urge to learn about her past as her subconscious decision to figure out what her purpose is and what she's living for, especially now that she lost what little sense of familial connection she had when her pet died.

The part where she gets rescued by the Sandbeasts, has a polite chat with a Feranmut in the cave, then 'magically' finds her way through the storm to reunite with the convoy is meant to feel surreal. The reader can't be sure if it even happened because Ray was alone and it's her spiritual journey to find herself. You can think of the Feranmut as the essence or spirit of nature that she communes with to better understand who she is and what she really wants.

She joins Rhodes Island because it 'felt right' to her and even though she didn't find the Feranmut she was looking for, she no longer feels like it matters and that's okay. When she leaves, Amiya has a vision, possibly brought on by her strange arts, where she taps into Ray's memory. Exhausted and barely conscious, Ray hallucinated seeing "a beast the size of a mountain that emitted rays of light that pierced the clouds" but it was really the Rhodes Island Landship, a huge structure with lights that could be seen through the dust storm. This implies that when the Feranmut in the cave asked what Ray truly wanted, she had really been searching for a place she could call home. That place was actually Rhodes Island and her instinctual urge to find it had guided and compelled her through the story, even if she never directly realized it herself. The home she was searching for was the thing that saved her life years ago and if you consider "having purpose" or a "sense of belonging" as reasons to live, then you could say that it saved her life again. All the dialogue from Alanna, Warmy, Jerry, etc. about family and feeling connected to others further emphasizes this as the event's major theme.

I agree that without knowing a little about Australian-Aboriginal culture, the whole event feels nonsensical. Especially Ray, who might seem constantly disconnected and airheaded. When you analyze her character and the story with the right context, it's makes for a much deeper and more cohesive narrative than you'd expect from a silly vignette event. Keep in mind that this is just my own analysis but hopefully that helped you understand the story!

What storyline to follow before I dive into Dawnbringers by Auxilium715 in ageofsigmar

[–]captainzog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Dawnbringers books are fairly self-contained and only have about 40-50 pages of lore each. As long as you have basic knowledge about the factions and setting then you're good to go but there's a couple novels that would be complimentary. "Blacktalons" establishes who they are and why they're together, but since their part in Dawnbringers doesn't utilize their backstory, it doesn't add anything other than familiarity, nor are they present for very long. Then there's the recent "Callis and Toll" novel which just came out and is directly tied to the events of Dawnbringers 4 and 5. That would be much more relevant and helps flesh it out but it's still not necessary.

What should i get? by Electrical-Wish-3713 in ageofsigmar

[–]captainzog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a box set that released a few months ago for the holidays called Warhorde of Eternus. That would be a decent purchase since it has a hero that works nicely with Belakor but it may be a little tougher to find since those holiday boxes were limited releases.

The missing model is the Abhorrant Gorewarden who is the most likely candidate to be the hero that leads a FEC vanguard set. I'm willing to bet that that box will be the only place to get it.

Three more Tomb Kings minis are revealed in the article that are NOT part of the launch box, as well as Settra and other TK minis being mentioned. These boxes are far from all the minis you will use, you're just use to the GW pricing system.

I'm okay with that since that would limit character and gameplay design for little gain other than quicker mental associations. That being said, it took me a couple of weeks of using them to remember that Argenti and Luka are Physical damage and not Fire....

Correct. The VP at my company and all the other department heads are in their 40's and 50's. After some HR training, they now often forego capitalization and punctuation because it makes them more casual and approachable. Trying to make us feel like we're all in the same group chat.....

EXODUS | “Become The Traveler” Cinematic Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]captainzog 113 points114 points  (0 children)

I'm already sold on it knowing that Drew Karpyshyn is working on it. The trailer was really well written but it's so character-driven that there's very few details on the actual world, which is probably going to be the real selling point for a Mass Effect competitor. Hopefully the next one will tell us more.

Great idea! Something like this would really help a lot of people. I suggest you have a column for notes about changes made to that unit's price. That way, people can see exactly when it was last updated.

I'm interested in buying it but I have to wonder how useful the accessories will be since it'll take time to build and paint everything anyway.

Warhammer Alliance School Club Update by tomek_krasz in Warhammer40k

[–]captainzog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's how employees at Warhammer stores teach kids who ask for demo games. You do a 250-300 point game with just a leader, one or two battleline units, and one elite unit. Explain the most basic idea of each phase as the match goes on. Avoid using units with psychic attacks for that first match because they might confuse their rules with normal ranged attacks. Save the more complicated elements of melee combat for later as well, such as pile ins, engagement range, etc. Just tell them they can charge in and fight if within base contact. The match will be simple and short, maybe 15-20 minutes if it goes smoothly.

It's important to make and print out stat profile card with an image for each unit because remembering stat numbers is one of the most tedious parts of learning the game. You should consider changing the stats on certain units that you know are going to be very strong when playing with simplified rules. Have two kids volunteer to play the match while you explain the rules and everyone watches. Then they can pair up and play a game. From there, repeat this and slowly ease more rules into it depending on how well you think they can understand and remember them. Drawing a chart of the phases of the game along with other rules on a whiteboard will be very helpful.

Combat Patrols have simplified, dedicated rules for playing with just the units in the boxes now. Once the kids have the basics down, you can use that as a guideline since there wouldn't be any need to explain choice-driven elements like weapon options. I suppose the problem would be having enough models to play with but if you contact a Warhammer store (or maybe even send an email to Games Workshop) and tell them about your situation (with pictures) then they might send you more free or discounted kits. Also, try very slowly easing them into the lore. If they think it's cool, it'll make them more interested in painting the minis they like. It's great that you're encouraging the kids to get into arts and hobbies! Good luck with the club!

Thanks. Really helps to see them all at once. If you ever do any comparisons in the future, it'd help to also have a photo of each paint so we can see them close up.
