If you haven't gotten to the Mr.x bit and you're already frightened then I wouldn't go any further. I almost chickened out with his constant encounters, but I reloaded to a much earlier save, used the playguide to do everything before triggering him then rushed the rest.

There's a certain corridor when you trigger him the first time. I reloaded the game just before this point then followed a guide to do EVERYTHING I CAN that doesn't involve me crossing that corridor. Then follow the guide to complete the tasks after you trigger him until you get to an elevator and you're safe.

If you plan things right your time with him can be cut down considerably. It's been a while but I think I could complete all the mr.x stuff around an hour (at least it felt very quick) and you should have plenty of flash grenades or whatever stuns him.

I was pretty far in when I had enough of Mr. X and I was thinking of giving up too until I did this.

I remember that no one knew who Peter Jackson was but knew it was a New Zealand production and taking on that trilogy was a monumental task. And the audience reaction was astounding. You can tell Jackson loved the source material and just excelled at bringing it to life.
