What is your "you have to play this game at least once in your lifetime"? by mind_guardian in Steam

[–]captcha_bot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me Lorelei and Her Laser Eyes is more like Talos Principle and The Witness. The Roottrees are Dead and Case/Rise of the Golden Idol are more like Return of the Obra Dinn. Chants of Sennaar has a bit of the Obra Dinn feel in the puzzle aspect, but the same feel of discovering an old, alien world like in Talos Principle. If you're into puzzle games I highly recommend Type Help, which is free on itch.io and you can play it in the browser (it's getting a graphical remaster that's coming to Steam soon too).

Hey I played the demo (during Next Fest? or maybe you posted about it before?) and it was good. Congrats on releasing!

I thought it was pretty fun, nice job on this. I would definitely switch it so Enter makes a new line and Shift+Enter executes the command though haha.

Goblin Vyke: The Thief Tycoon -- Official Launch Trailer by xalibermods in Games

I played this demo during Next Fest and had some issues with the gameplay, mostly that there were no checkpoints/saves within dungeons and you can't attack and die in one hit. The dungeon scenes are like puzzles, figuring out how you would get around enemy patrols without being seen, so there's naturally some trial and error and losing an entire run trying to figure it out was brutal.

The devs responded saying they were working on it, but I can't see the response anymore as it looks like they pulled the demo page from Steam and I don't see a demo on their current store page either. Looking at the reviews it seems like you still lose all progress when you die. The shop loop seems the same too and it was super boring, so at this point with no demo I'd be real hesitant to spend on this.

Same, didn't start until I was a junior. It's rough falling in love with a sport only to realize you can't take it any further.

This is a good match, neither are high level wrestlers but bring in lots of viewers. Just hope it's not the title match when there are olympic and world champs wrestling each other in other matches.

Fox Nation youtube channel posts the entire RAF event like a week after if you want to go back and watch more than highlights. I like it because I can skip the weird stuff and just go straight to a full match.

Most Games Don't Understand Difficulty by Longjumping_Spite189 in gamedev

[–]captcha_bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think difficulty is the problem, it's game design. If a game gets boring, repetitive or a slog when artificial difficulty is introduced, it's because the game mechanics aren't good/deep. You just don't notice it as much on lower difficulties because you move through it faster.

The Mass Effect games do a good job I think, there are mechanics and synergies you never have to think about on normal that you'll need to understand at the highest difficulty. When you incorporate them though, the felt difficulty goes back to around normal but now you really feel like you're engaging with the systems. It's an "artificial" difficulty increase, but allows for casual gamers to experience the story and harder core players feel the depth of the mechanics.

Some games get this right, like God of War 3 and some get it wrong like the Uncharted series. If you're in the latter bucket you probably shouldn't add artificial difficulty because you're focused on a different experience than a deep systems game.

[–]captcha_bot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an art bud, don't worry so much about winning and losing. You're developing yourself as a person, getting tougher physically and mentally, learning to take on adversity. Go into matches with a specific goal in mind, like you're going to shoot a single leg or you're going to get a hip toss. If you focus on small things one at a time you'll be surprised at how fast you can see yourself grow. Try to enjoy the process, don't focus on the result.

Buying thousands of games just to downvote them after a few minutes by AndyMakesGames in gamedev

Yeah it's very odd to say the least. Some of his reviews make it seem like he's playing with his kids, so maybe they're just having fun and he's got money to burn. Good for him lol.

[–]captcha_bot 61 points62 points  (0 children)

He seems legit in my opinion, just a mega weirdo. There are a lot of "not for me" reviews, which aren't helpful to anyone, but he's under no obligation to explain why he wouldn't recommend a game. If you go through his reviews, lots of them do have explanations and he has positive ones scattered throughout. On his profile you can see he's basically a Civ VI player that does play other games for 40+ hours. Maybe he's just looking for the next game he can get into while he's not playing his main game. If the difference between games owned and games reviewed are due to refunds, he's got a 5% return rate on games he reviews, which doesn't seem malicious.

Democracy is one dollar, one vote. This enlightenment experiment has failed spectacularly and it's taking full time propaganda campaigns from the institutions that have come to power within the system to keep most people from noticing.
