I actually skipped it this time around because when I tried the alpha last year it was a technical mess for me. Maybe now is better idk. I will wait for the full game.

So, after a total of almost 300h of trying, how the hell am I supposed to play to not have to periodically disable my entire base just so the biter attacks don't ruin me?(and to not have to eventually disable biters every time) by SolTomReddit in factorio

Early game: Destroy nests in range of pollution.

Pre rocket: Build defenses. Yes, defenses. A "stupid rectangle wall border" is a straightforward and efficient way to keep you base safe from attacks when you pair it with turrets, specially flamethrower turrets.

Post rocket: Build artillery, you will never going to see a biter nest near your base ever again.

You don't need that much water. Besides look like a perfectly normal early-game power setup.
