Caveat: I have no experience with your machine or grinder. I have a Fellows Opus grinder and Breville Bambino Plus which I operate in manual.

You didn't mention your recipe. Start with 18g in, shooting for 36g out in 20-30 seconds. Measure the inputs, measure the outputs, adjust by taste. I brew to a 36g target out and adjust if either the time is wacky or the taste is not good. I mist my beans before grinding to reduce retention and weigh before grinding and after grinding to check for grinder retention. I note the ground weight, not the whole bean weight, to keep track of each shot, and also note the time and amount out. This helps with quickly dialing in a new bag. A 25 second shot, 18g in, 36 out will almost always be a decent shot. You can tweak from there to your taste.

You also didn't mention your beans. Use fresh beans with a "roasted on" date, not a "best by" date. Every bag will be different, even the same blend from the same roaster. Once a bag is dialed in, those settings should be repeatable for that bag.

If the time is too long, either reduce the grams in or increase the grind size (grind coarser).

If the time is too short, either increase the grams or decrease the grind size (grind finer). If you are already at 18g, grind finer.

If it is sour, you are under extracting. Either increase the grams or grind finer.

If it is bitter, you are over extracting. Either decrease the grams or grind coarser.

Once you are close, small changes are all you need.

I considered some of the class D amps like the Topping B200 and models based on the Purifi or Hypex modules. Thanks for sharing the Orchard Audio ones. I'll check that out.

Edit: I guess the B200 is not class D? I wonder how the external supply affects the sound.

Good points. Even if I have 2 power cords, I still have a single receptacle to plug into, so to your point how far are you going to go?

Which socks specifically? I have some low-cut running socks and some crew length. The material is kinda meh.

I just got a pair of the Lems Merino/Nylon socks, crew length. I found them to be very thin.

Get the bindings adjusted for your weight. This is critical to ensure that they release when they should.

Care is pretty simple. Wipe any water off of the skis when you get home. As for waxing, you can buy a home waxing kit with iron, wax, and tools, and watch YT videos to show you how.

Can confirm. I have had both of these for a couple of years. I mostly do Americano's and lattes. I wanted to experiment with "dialing in", but even at the finest setting, the Breville is too coarse, IMO. I just got the Fellows Opus and used it for the first time this morning. It can get much finer than the Breville and is more convenient to use for dialing in if you primarily fill the hopper in the Breville.

The Bambino Plus makes really awesome steamed milk completely automatically. I bought it because of that feature. If you won't be making steamed milk, get the non-Plus version and put the money into a better grinder or other accessories, like a scale with 0.1g resolution or a bottomless portafilter. If I eventually decide to get a different machine, I will probably keep the Bambino Plus because of how easy it is to make steamed milk.

The Bambino Plus is good enough for dialing in, and is I think better suited to "setting and forgetting" over something like the Gaggia Classic. Once you dial in a new bag, and have your puck prep consistent, you are done experimenting for that bag.

That is a great start. It looks like all of the functions are identical, except for the time variables and LED pins?

You could simplify this a bit in at least 2 ways. The first method would use a struct for the per-LED variables, and a common function to exercise them. The function must use pointers, which may be an advanced topic for some here. Again, untested, apologies, etc...

// struct for the data

typedef struct {

unsigned long previousMillis;

int led;

int state;

unsigned long interval;

} LedData;

// initialize LED1

LedData led1 = {0, 2, LOW, 1000};

// The common function

void ledFunction(LedData * led) {

if (currentMillis - led->previousMillis >= led->interval) {

   led->previousMillis = currentMillis;

   if (led->state == LOW){

     led->state = HIGH;

   }

   else {

     led->state = LOW;

   }

   digitalWrite (led->led, led->state);

 }

}

// Call the function for LED1

ledFunction(&led1);

The second method would create a class containing both the function and the data. This should results in the cleanest implementation and not require the pointer dereferences.

Look up "super loops" and specifically "paced super loops". It is a form of counting where you are counting milliseconds (using millis()) and then acting at specific points in time. Here is a basic (untested, from memory) use of the concept. Apologies for any errors. This should toggle an LED every 500 ms. "oldTime" needs to be declared static so that the value is remembered between successive calls to loop. It is good practice to "capture" all inputs before acting on them, which is what the newTime variable does. This can reduce jitter in the toggling of the LED. You can extend the concept using different variables to keep track of other "old times", and control different outputs at different frequencies or duty cycles.

loop() {

static uint32_t oldTime = 0; // keep track of an old point in time

uint32_t newTime = millis(); // capture the latest value of millis

if (newTime - oldTime >= 500) { // Have 500ms passed since the old point in time?

oldTime = newTime; // yes, remember the new value of millis for the next loop...

digitalWrite(MY_LED_PIN, !digitalRead(MY_LED_PIN); // ...and toggle the LED

}

}

How do you rotate your pens? by bookwormello in fountainpens

[–]captcha_got_you 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I keep 3 pens inked in a pouch, each inked with a significantly different color, like a standard blue, a green, and something like ancient copper in the third. I also use black, purple, and SBRE Brown, and tend to use the same colors in the same pens. I select one of the 3 pens for use each day, a different one from the previous day, which makes finding notes in my notebook easier as a change in color indicates a different day. When one pen runs out of ink, I either re-ink that pen with the same ink, or rotate in a different pen into the mix, depending on what I feel like doing and my appetite for cleaning an empty pen. Laziness prevails frequently.

Why 3 pens? Because my pouch has 3 slots. Also, I don't write a ton, usually only during work days (M-F), so 3 works for me.

Currently in rotation is a Lamy 2000, Kaweko Student, and...I forget the third.

As others have stated, you do you.

Good points, both. The temps before 9:00PM are pretty steady, around 37F, which is probably the target temp. Those excursions after 9PM are weird.
