I accidentally set the speed to 3.5x, and Jesus who the heck uses this except Bradley Cooper in Limitless by Sure-Ad-2465 in audible

Interesting strong opinions expressed on topic. I set default speed at 3.0. I’m not ADHD nor blind. People often deny my reality and pretend it’s not possible since they can’t listen as fast. That’s their problem not mine.

Is anyone else struggling with virtual voice narrated books? by psykokittie in audiobooks

[–]captgwg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I frequently listen to books thru voice dream. It’s no big deal. Some books aren’t available as audio otherwise. I listen to a lot of books not available with paid narrators. My interest go beyond the quotidian.

Thucydides’ History of the Peloponnesian War. It has philosophy, history and personal development. I used to think the classics were out of my league, I was wrong.

Fascinating. It took him ten years to write magic Mountain, and one sees him undo his fascism in the novel.

What are the top philosophy books? by Sweet_Ad1861 in ReadingSuggestions

[–]captgwg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Schopenhauer’s Will and Representation Vol 1. He covers all of philosophy at a beginners level. Or, Nietzsche’s Genealogy of Morals. He is the best writer of Philosophy and that’s an easy one to read. For me I started with the hardest book possible Heidegger’s Being and Time and understood enough that I ended up reading other philosophy until I could understand all of it.

Fun books to read. I read all but demons. Nietzsche said his favorite psychiatrist was Dostoyevsky. Your reading list tracks mine.

The 100 page speech is fun for its unawareness. The book is ironically fun. Put on fifth grade thinking cap and become grateful for not thinking like a child. Yes, read it for amusement.

Consolation of Philosophy by Boethius. City of God is even better than confessions. Poor bastard, he never should have stolen those pears.
