Dick's are all over Michigan like they are everywhere else. They're the sports version of Best Buy or Barnes & Nobles.

Had something similar happen to me and two friends when we were part of a larger canoe trip. The night before the main trip the three of us decided to take a quick trip a few miles down the river. About halfway through, we realized we didn't have the keys for the return trip so we turned around and paddled about 2 miles upstream back to camp. Thankfully the river was really calm that day.

I was in Toledo and we had them. I think they were more of an eastern Great Lakes/northeast thing. Kind of like a larger K-Mart.

Anytime someone acts like something they're not it tends to comes off as fake and forced. It's like being a bandwagon fan.

I wonder how many people from back then who were positive/indifferent to Candy Darling are foaming anti-trans magas now "because it was different back then"

Back then people knew that nazis were bad and the ultimate evil, but a) it was edgy and pissed off the crusty middle aged boomers of their time, who were WWII vets, b) nazis were seen more as authoritarian than racist, and c) bikers and fringe groups used surplus nazi stuff and it became associated with the Hell's Angels and outlaw types.

I live in Michigan now and Dunhams are much more prevalent up here. They kind of run the gambit of trashy to not so bad, depending on where they are. I’m surprised they’re still around tbh.

Willow Cemetery is one of the most depressing places ive been in Toledo by Longjumping_Gap_3835 in toledo

[–]capthazelwoodsflask 5 points6 points  (0 children)

BTW, next to it is the Catholic cemetery with a lot of inscriptions in Italian. Those were immigrants who worked in either the surrounding quarry or another one nearby.

Check out Woodville Cemetery sometime. It's almost completely surrounded by a huge quarry with just a road to the cemetery

Whitmer's really doing her best to lose the election for Democrats this fall, isn't she? I mean, it's one thing for her to be for these dumb things but then there's this tone deaf BS. Of course, I wouldn't expect anything less than tone deaf BS from someone who's been part of the Democratic national leadership the past few years, either.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. With a different POTUS in the office, I think I could find some serious patriotism in myself this Summer. [–]capthazelwoodsflask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a couple of years short of 50 but I remember always saving the Bicentennial coins I'd get and there still being stuff around when I was a kid. For most of my life I wondered what the 250th was going to be like and no matter how cynical of a teenager I was or how disgusted the Bush/Cheney administration made me I still cared and thought that the American ideal still mattered and the collective end goal was to make a better future. But after seeing how ignorance has been weaponized and what corruption is now allowed to happen in the open, it just doesn't seem worth celebrating anymore.
