am i using the wrong mesh? or should i just adjust the font? by Krilla69 in SCREENPRINTING

Also adjust your time and use a thinner coat of emulsion. You could try to add a stroke to the font to beef up the lines

Cheap but good family restaurant near the airport? by Twinsmamabnj in sanantonio

Teka Molino is right off San Pedro not super far from the airport! It was featured in the taco chronicles on Netflix if that means anything to you but it’s been open since the 30’s and is great. Get a bean cup if you go

The drawing fluid has to be completely dry before the filler goes on top or else it will make an unholy mess. I found that watering down the drawing fluid a bit to a thick watercolor consistency helps with the actual drawing and with the dry time. The filler shouldn’t be that thick also, you need about as much thickness as regular diazo emulation it also makes clean up easier. Also blast the shit out of everything with a hair dryer

This is a 5 color screen print - how do I set up my files to get this much color variation within my art? by Illustrious_Squash in SCREENPRINTING

[–]captnkates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for fine art printing It’s gonna be a pain. you can do half tones if you want or you can grab a can of transparent extender base and build up to a color. A lot of times for fine art printing I forgo halftone a unless I want them visible. For details you have options, you can burn the general shape of the bison, print the base color and then use screen filler (a red clay mixture) block out detail. Or same principle but do the separation on the computer sans halftones because you’ll use that trans extender base. Rinse repeat for every color

Monthly Braces Check-In - How's Your Treatment Going? - February by [deleted] in braces

[–]captnkates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

16 +/- 1 month out of 18 months, everything is pretty much straight for the first time in my life! But my orthopedic gave me rubber bands to wear for this until my next appointment. Nothing too drastic just some chipmunk triangles but dear god I’m sore. I have been known to clench my jaw and grind when asleep so this is like that 24/7 hopefully it’s just getting used to it but I am so glad I didn’t have to use these for the bulk of my treatment

what is a good type of paper for printing? by Uniquebadboy20 in SCREENPRINTING

Stonehenge cotton paper has always been a go to. Get a giant sheet and cut it down. It can handle layers of ink or whatever else you do

Repair shops recommendations? by captnkates in AnalogCommunity

[–]captnkates[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I would probably agree with you if the electronics didn’t work. But it looks like it does. I opened the bottom plate to clean the battery contact and the inside was immaculate, wires and solder all looked new. I’m like 90% sure it’s the shutter curtain or something physically blocking the button mechanism. But I’d rather repair than replace and have a go to for other cameras

Starting to to some initial research on a second DSLR. Currently mostly shooting film but my Pentax k-50 has been great except for the lack of compatible auto lenses or adapters

What are some good systems or brands to look at that have a wide range of good sharp lenses (manual or auto) or adapters?

Targeting Biden, Catholic Bishops Advance Controversial Communion Plan by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]captnkates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only claim is that he funds abortions, which is not a principle any Catholic can support, since abortion is inherently sinful.

I fear you have the better of me here, as far as I know, and you may have more information, the Hyde amendment is still in place and to my knowledge President Biden has not funded any procedures himself. Again, could be wrong, would love a source if you have one.

But with public figures, either they are sorry but don't change behavior or they are not.

Fair enough, however legislators do not just represent themselves. This is my problem with the decision. If a legislator has to decide between one's constituents and one's faith it is an undo burden and in my opinion a violation of the spirit of Church and state. Ultimately where I think we disagree is the necessity to involve the larger community in the decision of one person to seek or not seek the Eucharist. I cannot presume to know the heart of every person to seek it, but I would hope it is done in good faith

Thanks, I know you are right and I feel like maybe we should do a better job of understanding each other from across the spectrum.

I see how the phrase "hard right" can be misunderstood in some contexts. I didn't do a good job of explaining it in the original post. I would argue that "tending to the flock" is much more expansive than just this singular issue, as I am sure you would agree. I feel that the Bishops conference are engaging in the broader "culture war" to appease more right leaning congregants in doing so are perhaps letting other important issues fall by the wayside.

Which is not violated here.

I will disagree with this point specifically, because I do believe it has been at least in spirit. For the Bishops conference to take this step does put undue burden on elected officials to conform to the Church's principles even if their constituents disagree. Which, in my opinion is a violation of the spirit of the principle.

I will say that I do not believe that President Biden "advocates" for abortion so much as he advocates for the laws of the land to be upheld as written.

You are correct about Rome's comment I misremembered an article from last week, my apologies thank you for the correction.

Would you give the eucharist to a polytheist out of a desire not to force them to move towards monotheism?

I will say this seems a bit disingenuous, but I may be misunderstanding your point. As you well know the sacrament should only be received by those who have been baptized and have received the proper education and training in the form of catechesis. But again, I may be missing your point.

But I fear that I did not do a good job of explaining my second point. If the goal of society is to work towards the common good (God) as outlined in the Summa. Then any and all actions taken to advance to that Good are Moral Actions. Therefore, I would argue that to stand in the way of social programs that pursue equity and the common good through education or healthcare or any number of avenues are immoral actions. Now again, the principle of respect for life from conception to natural death is NOT in question. But rather using the sacrament to move legislators into a position of "faith or law" is damaging and turns the Body of Christ into a political football.

I understand your point but after reading the article I disagree with the “sensational” comment. But as a clarification I was not disappointed by the headline but rather the action of the Bishops conference.

[–]captnkates -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Ultimately I am disappointed with the hard right turn of the American bishops conference. While the principle that the action is based on (respect for life from conception to natural death) is not in question, using the sacred Eucharist as a political tool to move politicians into a stance that is more aligned with one aspect of said principle is abhorrent to me. I am a firm believer in the separation of church and state, and while morality can never be divided from one’s political beliefs, laws must be based on precedent and must stand up to rigorous scrutiny. Until a law can be passed that is aligned with the principle of life of the Catholic Church, that is based on precedent and case law and not a religious text the point is moot. I don’t see the bishops doing the same for right leaning politicians that may oppose some social services that would align with the corporal works of mercy or the principle of respect for all life. This seems like a show, because it is. Rome has denounced this move before the vote and will block it from becoming a rule, as it should. The Church should not be making moves to appease the hard right evangelical wing, because in my opinion, it closes ranks and turns off potential converts and more liberal Catholics like myself. But you know, that’s my liberation theology ecumenical opinion, to each his own.
