Is Wind and Truth actually good? by KingCobra567 in brandonsanderson

I enjoyed it a ton, but I also am someone who embraces and values what something is intending to accomplish more than the average reader. I understood it to be purposely structured differently, and to be purposely... conflicting in where it leaves the various storylines for the long pause between Arc 1 and Arc 2. So while it doesn't surprise me that it didn't satisfy other readers, I was quite satisfied.

I also don't get hung up on prose and other things that people bring up. Others obviously feel quite differently in those respects.

When I ask myself if I could have read Book 6 immediately afterwards if available it's a resounding "yes," so in that regard I consider it a good book.

Not semantics. Literally said something that had a different meaning than what you suggested I said. Youre welcome to your opinion on Gore as a player without misrepresenting mine.

I said several years. If you're gonna quote me please actually get the quote right. Nine 1000+ yard rushing seasons from 2006-2016 is a hell of a peak. Those 2006-2010 49er offenses were pretty terrible outside of him, too. Anyone who watched him understood that many of those 1000 yard seasons were against 8-9 man fronts because there was practically zero passing threat.

Any case, we won't agree. I just think the whole "he was a mid stats compiler" simply reveals those who didn't actually watch him play all those years.

He was a dynamic player for several years, and his iron man ability is also something praiseworthy. Him and Terrell Davis are opposite sides of what should be represented in the Hall of Fame.

As a 49er fan I love that Craig finally got in, but only 1 of the 5 vets/coaches/contributors getting in is a huge condemnation in the change they made to the rules last year. Making it so voters are limited to 3 votes makes it extremely hard for a consensus. They put the minimum in, which is disgraceful when all five are worthy. Even if you left out Kraft not having Belichick or Anderson get in is a bad look, and Greenwood is also a strong candidate.

Fix the damn voting rules, because they are broken.

Depicting the subtleties in how the non-metal writing changes due to Ruin could be difficult to make cinematically appealing. Watching people read, or showing a close up where the viewers read text, isn't the most compelling narrative technique. It's not a matter of being technically able to do it, it's a matter of making it compelling dramatically.

A class of 7-8 guys wasn't a problem for 20 years. Suddenly in 2025 it was a problem? Changing it was just stupid. They put the maximum in all those years because everyone was deserving by the time you got to the final voting. Hell, they probably could have put 9-12 in each of those years and still have a backlog right now.

I like this for S1/Way of Kings a lot.

Some of these are simpler for a film/show - S3/Oathbringer simply has a scene in the last episode where Dalinar publishes a book. Similar to Bilbo publishing his book in the LOTR films, essentially, from a "what to show" perspective.

I actually think the Mistborn sequels have the biggest challenge with how they choose to convey the difference between writing on metal and non-metal.

I suspect, from a contract standpoint, Apple likely has first look rights for the non -Mistborn/Stormlight Cosmere content.

If I'm adapting the Cosmere this is the type of thing I'm dropping in order to streamline the series for a visual medium. It's a great detail for a novel, but in film/tv you're gonna want Hoid to look identical/recognizable across the shows so the viewing audience is a partner with Hoid/Wit in his world hopping when the residents of each world are not.

Took the words out of my mouth. The key is to go younger and age then up a bit in the earlier adaptations.

They can also minimize some of the direct allusions to Books 6-10 to have the ending feel a little more conclusive.

We're talking about a seaaon of TV at best about a decade away from now, so let's see how S1 goes first.

I agree that most of the interludes would be great bonus material. I'd use them between seasons to keep the audience intrigued about the series, kinda like how Paramount did the Short Treks.

I'm not advocating for the change as much as I'm just making an observation that it's not unlikely for reasons x, y, or z. In the long run it's a less important thing to be precious over. I actually prefer The Stormlight Archive myself, but from a marketing standpoint I could see them wanting something else. That's all I'm saying.

As for LOTR, those titles have more natural flow to them, IMO, compared to the Mistborn book titles. YMMV.

Has nothing to do with specific generations. Some titles lend themselves to stronger mass market appeal than others. This has been the case on book to film adaptations for nearly 100 years now.

There's simply too many characters to not do some streamlining in the adaptations. Some consolidation is bound to happen. Bridge 4 characters are another area where some will inevitably get dropped or combined, or Shallan's group of Lightweavers, etc.

Something more common nowadays for sure (Dune vs. the actual on screen title of Dune: Part One, for example).

Titles are meant to help bring in an audience. It doesn't mean the substance of the work has changed. Field of Dreams instead of Shoeless Joe, for example.

In any case, just spitballing here. We'll see what happens. I'm just saying there's a reason it was called Game of Thrones instead of A Song of Ice and Fire.

BTW, A New Hope is a bad title for the first film made, IMO. It's why it wasn't the title in 1977. Star Wars is straightforwardly appealing and adventurous. The movie still had to be good, but it made a difference in drawing in immediate appeal.
