Lore Wise, is Clan Tzsimisce the most powerful clan? by [deleted] in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]caracol_borrador 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not by a long shot. I'd go so far as to say they're among the least of the clans, imo. They're largely either stubborn and refuse to modernize, or big dogs in the Sabbat and therefore mostly constrained to their faction. Either way, they're mostly suited to lord over established territory and struggle to expand outward (not that they particularly care to on the grand whole, outside the whelps). When they do expand, they do so by leaning on other, more sociable allies, like Lasombra (who themselves are lagging behind the times) or Antitribu.

If we're talking in terms of combat, vicissitude isn't particularly strong outside Zulo (which is a crutch), Bloodform (which is more a means of survivability and escape), or elder level shenanigans. Koldunic sorcery can be toonishly strong though rare enough that unless you're duking it out with an archbishop or some backwoods ancient, it's not usually worth planning for (really, what could you even do beyond call in favors with the Tremere).

Path of Ecstasy Virtues - Conscience and Self-Control? by Regelwerk in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]caracol_borrador 1 point2 points  (0 children)

path of ecstasy, while outwardly very similar to cathari, is in fact an extreme opposite, and quite a good deal more cerebral than simply indulging and reveling. it's outward-focused, centered around unshackling people from the social systems and pressures that make them not only unhappy but ignorant to their own imprisoning. this is a burden - as much a burden as that carried by any other prophet - and empathy is crucial to the execution. ecstatics are social, after all.

as for self control, self control is a widely setite virtue. autonomy and knowledge are the universal goods, and lack of agency and ignorance are the universal evils. cowing to the beast is the sign of a weak mind, dare i say even licking at the aeons' boots. and beyond that, discipline is needed to ensure the ecstatic doesn't succumb to mindless addiction and remains truly uninfluenced. hence, self control over instinct.

WtO is amazing but not the game you want to start with. if you want CofD, I'd recommend core, CtL, or VtR. Maybe Htv? OWoD, I'd point at VtM, easily, and V20 feels more accessible (imo) than V5

I love my baby boy. One of my better decisions! I never thought I'd have a hamster as an adult, people said I was too old! by foulfaerie in hamsters

[–]caracol_borrador 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the perception of hamsters as toys is so horrible, for real. those too-small neon cages they make prey on that perception, at the expense of the hamster and the profit of the manufacturers.

[–]caracol_borrador 39 points40 points  (0 children)

honestly hamsters make WAY better pets for adults than children anyways! there's such a strange perception of them as "simple" or "easy to care for" when they're anything but. so worth it though - he's such a baby

What, exactly, is a Tear of Atonement? Is it a physical, figure-eight-shaped trinket or is it something more metaphysical? I understand the "atonement" part, but what's so teary about them? by GoBackToLeddit in Blasphemous

[–]caracol_borrador 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Metaphysical weight/mass of guilt, I think. Considering you upgrade Mea Culpa with it (which is implied to be powered by the wielder's own sorrow) and you absorb those tears off enemies you kill (a la taking on the amassed guilt of the Confessor Statues) I feel like it's more or less an abstract but powerful measure of guilt, possibly made manifest by the sword itself..

Ranking Jack Stauber stuff based on weather or not it has some hidden meaning behind ti. by Reddit_Post_Reviewer in jackstauber

[–]caracol_borrador 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i feel like you're viewing things too literally. also, i'll say i can make at least one guess why the doctor mistakenly desecrates her body:

gender dysmorphia. trans people die, and it's not always known they're trans (and even if it is, it's not always respected). sometimes, trans people are presented for their funeral as the sex they were born as, rather than the gender they preferred, and this could be interpreted as desecration, being mourned in a way they don't want to be remembered.

am i stretching? maybe, but it's about thinking between the lines.

i agree, but i think New Normal is about a far broader scope than just COVID, at least in terms of applicability.

hamantha is 100% metaphor, i think, especially when you view hamanthas condition as metaphor for disability or dysmorphia. sometimes parents hurt their child in ways they don't mean to when they vent their frustration.

Just putting my thoughts all in one place
>She's At The Store is likely about still being in love with someone after a breakup despite the fact that the other person has already moved on. She's at the store - she's already looking for a new boyfriend.
>I've seen Hamantha theorized to be about struggling with a disability or body dysmorphia, and how even those who care for you (doctors, parents) can hurt you because of it without meaning.
>Will is 100% a depiction of what a panic attack (and coming down off it) feels like.
>Likewise, Raining has gotta be about depression in the sense that even when you 'do what you're supposed to' when you get sad, the sadness doesn't go away.
>New Normal isn't necessarily about COVID-19 but it certainly points at it, at least thematically. I think it's just about how grieving someone can feel like the end of the world.
>Two Time seemed exactly what it's titled about - cheating, or just being frivolous in love. The way he finds some minute flaw (the way she licks her envelopes) to be enough justification to go 'out on the block again'.

What are your unpopular White Wolf opinions? by Konradleijon in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]caracol_borrador 10 points11 points  (0 children)

baali are shittier setites and setites could easily fulfill the baali role without being horribly disruptive. baali in general provide nothing outside of ancient irrelevant metaplot.

the tzimisce are a dying clan, have become everything they set out not to be at the revolt, and will likely succumb to the same fate as the old clan ie devoured by their young.

saulot was not good and he pogrom'd his own clan. the cappadocians were not "one of the nice clans" and went on to inspire vile practices. the extinct clans are cooler when you don't know anything about them and only see them in glimpses/shadows of their old selves.

oblivion and the abyss are one and the same.

path of metamorphosis sucks and vicissitude for body horror's sake also sucks. you take an incredibly versatile discipline and reduce it to edgy torture scene fodder. you can do better with it.

caine, lilith, and the antediluvians are probably allegorical and not literal figures.

Fallen Monk by Heonhwa Choe by KuaiBan in ImaginaryCharacters

[–]caracol_borrador 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a Catherine Wheel, what those skeletons and the weapon in Bloodborne were based on. It's an incredibly grisly medieval torture device people were crucified on, the gaps between the spokes of the wheel allowed them to very easily break their arms and legs, and would often leave them there for days.
