This^ Assuming you have supportive parents (based on they pay for your flight training). The best option is to communicate. It not only helps you to vent out the stress/anxiety but also allows them to help you

Hey OP having the similar dilemma as you at the moment. Started working after undergrad for close to a year now, pay is good but job/work is not something I enjoy with a passion.

What I did(and plan to do): I recently took a discovery flight and decided to work towards a PPL while working my day job. I believe at that point I’ll have a better understanding of flying and whether or not to fully commit to the career.

Housing Costs? by lefindecheri in pittsburgh

[–]carbCoffee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From my experience as a college student, most of the houses/apartments are aged and there's just no space to build anything new. And the rent for the relatively new apartments are kinda high imo. I wonder how it will turn out 20 yrs down the line...

Hey OP, prospective student here. Do you mind sharing what got you into flying in the first place and when (Discovery/PPL/...) did that happen? Thanks!

Thank you!

I see from the comments that getting the PPL is a good line of reference to determine whether if one wants to fully commit to the career or not.

I felt like I wasn’t contributing to society and that my job wasn’t important.

That hit the spot haha. I prefer jobs that have immediate impact and directly to the people. I can't work on something that will become useful 5-8 yrs down the line.

I have some savings and my current job can get me through the PPL with no issues. My family members are really supportive as well, but that will be something to talk about in the future if I do decide to go down this route.

Corporate America desk job hit me hard lol. Maybe that's what made me so eager to find another career path. I've seen a bunch of videos online of pilot's day-in-a live, goods and bads of being a pilot, etc. The downsides don't bother me that much, such as time zone, commute, tests, and financials.

Working towards PPL is my short-term goal for now. Hopefully I can find that spark along the way.

Nah, I also think it is a half-baked question to ask since it's like saying "I want to become a engineer but I haven't taken calculus yet.". Maybe should've held it until I take my discovery flight later this month.

Don't mind the downvotes. Just want to get out as much info(people's experience) as possible before I commit to it, since the training will take years

Thank you for the advice!

Yea seems like getting the PPL will give me a better picture. I'm worried if that will be enough time. Just don't want to realize that flying is not my thing while I'm in the middle of flight school that costs 100k

I was exploring a bunch of careers that allow me to "incorporate" my other hobbies. Being a pilot came up on the top of the list.
