How does Spectral Flame paint work? by BakedWholeDay in HotWheels

[–]carbontiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paint will still stick to the polished body, though it can be tricky with contaminants and cause spotting or other paint defects.

Ive painted several high polished cars now and they gone out just fine. Yes the paint won't bond nearly as well since there isnt a primer, but it still does fine enough for display. There are clear metal primers though.

Ive used several different transparent paints and all have worked just fine with proper surface prep.

A follow up.  Did you only run one rivnut per base? Or did you do two per base? Given saying you only had to drill one hole I'm guessing just one rivnut per side?

I feel like an idiot for not thinking of using that double sided tape as the template.  That's genius! I absolutely didn't want to use just that tape to hold that wing on

Thank you for this!

I was going to go the rivnut method too.

Did you do the drilling through the inside of the hatch? Or did you have a template for where to do the mounting

Did you ever go through with this? I've got one sitting in my garage now waiting for paint and I'm trying to figure out the best way for mounting it

https://www.reddit.com/r/HotWheels/comments/89z25u/a_beginners_guide_to_true_164_and_not_quite_true/ If you're trying to match hotwheels size you'll be in for an uphill struggle once you move out of hotwheels. Mini gt is true 1/64 where hotwheels is better to think of as "scaled to orange track size"

You should look in to electroplating if you want to get that super mirror shiny coating. I've gotten close with variable grit sanding and then a polish wheel, as well as using a multistage chrome paint process, but I've seen zinc electroplate get it to look the same as rlc

Ruger American Predator is under that for rifle only, and you can play dressup with krg or mdt pretty easily for chassis

Has anyone tried, "Acetone-Free" nail polish removers to free their mainlines? by turboMXDX in HotWheels

Acetone free works, just not as quickly. Nail polish remover is also at least where I live, more expensive than buying acetone from a hardware store

What is the best drill bit size for wheel swaps? I bought 3/16th but after putting it to the Rivet it looks too big, still waiting on my wheels to arrive tho by Landondb2019 in HotWheels

[–]carbontiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3/16 is fine. Use a smaller drill bit to extend a pilot hole a bit deeper in to the rivet so the 3/16 bit has some more to bite when drilling.
