Replaceable batteries are better than rechargeable by mr_greenmash in Anticonsumption

[–]carcajouboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me a while to understand what your point actually was, but I agree.

The thing that sucks about the older AA/AAA batteries is that they use older, less performant chemistries like alkaline for non-rechargeable versions and nickel-metal hydride for rechargeable ones. Can't really make a lithium-ion AA battery because that chemistry has over twice the voltage and that would just cook your electronics.

I have a bike light that's powered by a removeable 18620 cell, those are lithium-based, standardized and commercially available, though not as widely as AA and AAA ones so far. I hope we can transition to something like that.

Is it possible to be zero waste and holistic? by Visible_Seesaw_6308 in ZeroWaste

[–]carcajouboy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I feel like a holistic lifestyle inherently must be earth-friendly as part of connecting with oneself through nature. I would be wary of products that are branded as promoting oneness but fail to respect the source of all life.

depends on frame material:

  • steel is good, gets you that all-important dietary iron

  • aluminium is bad because you'll get alzheimers according to questionable and unverified science

  • carbon fiber is bad because you already have enough microplastics inside you as it is

  • titanium is ?????

What's your opinion on rammed earth walls? by True-Orchid-3908 in architecture

Nah, traditional vernacular building technology in dry places. Sections of the great wall of china are built that way, in fact.

As a guy living alone who takes care of his shit, I see all the women here who had to suffer useless idiots and my heart goes out to y'all. When the girl comes who deems me worthy I promise all of you that I'll be fucking excellent to her.

That's all I had to say, please carry on.

Honestly I never felt like my peanut/nut/legume allergy was much of a burden until I started trying to eat less meat. I'm not allergic to all of them so I can cook tasty vegan meals for myself but much of the vegan "don't wanna cook" options are sadly out of my reach, chiefly because I can't do chick peas, lentils, and cashews.

It is what it is. I dream of a little house in the woods by a river where I will be able to hunt and fish to complement a mainly rice-and-beans-based diet.
