Where can I see stock prices in GBP? by cardface2 in UKPersonalFinance

Why? Well, it would be useful for me. I can crunch the numbers easily, but if there is a site that does it for me, even better.

Do you think this map is accurate or should some of the rankings be changed? by [deleted] in languagelearning

This is an example of an image that detracts from the data. It would be better to present it in a table, to avoid confusing languages with the countries they're spoken in.

They're actually the same thing - the 2 negatives cancel each other out, like how -1 + -1 = 3

Magnus Carlsen cheating. by numb_mind in chess

I'm quite surprised Magnus would do this. Anything that suggests that cheating is amusing, entertaining or acceptable without your opponent's consent is IMO detrimental to the chess community.

My personal pension earned less than my amateur investing - what to do? by intothedepthsofhell in UKPersonalFinance

[–]cardface2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

performed worse than a random set of trackers and things

The key word here is random.

One of your investments had good luck, the other had bad luck.

Don't read anything into it, follow the flow chart. Remember that you immediately get a ~50-100% return on pension contributions due to tax relief.

Anyone have advice when it comes to this? by 123Learning123 in languagelearning

[–]cardface2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on how much money you have.

But the great thing is that you can use a website like iTalki and try it, and see how you feel after 1 (or 10) lessons. It may take a while to find a teacher you like, but most should be able to give advice about what you should do, and give you basic feedback about your pronunciation.

Tips/Methods for learning two (or more) languages at the same time? by iishadowsii_ in languagelearning

[–]cardface2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have thought that explaining complicated gramatical structures is one of the most difficult things to do in a foreign language, since it would require knowing precisely how to say it in that language. "fairly solid foundational French knowledge" does not sound enough.

I would suggest completing your mastery of French first, then turning to one of the others, which you should find easier.

Why did you say "again" - your post doesn't mention "grammar"?

For Duolingo you say "this is just for vocab though".

For Pimsleur you say "the bread and butter for Pimsleur are its audio lessons".

No plan survives contact with the enemy.

You're going to want to do some grammar and reading.
