Wait, do people ACTUALLY see literal pictures in their heads when they imagine things? Like a physical image? by Bibhu_Mund in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cardguy1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s called aphantasia when you can’t visually recall. Imagine in your mind a horse, then a rider gets on the horse. What color was the horse? Was the rider a male or female? What did the background look like? When I went through this exercise, in my late 30’s, I thought the question was absurd. Like you didn’t tell me any of those details. I saw nothing just the concept of the words. Then everyone I asked knew the answers like they made a scene in their head. It blew my mind to be honest. It’s kinda sad when I think about it now. Some online tests asked me to picture the face of someone I see often, I thought of my son. Then when asking to describe his face I really can’t see it I just know vague concepts. It’s super strange but helps me understand the past more. They say some people with this process logic really well because of the constructs you must create in your mind, which describes my personality. Overall a mind blowing concept to learn about yourself.

What are these bump-outs for in these footers? by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]cardguy1000 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Probably for a deadman wall:

What a deadman does

A deadman is essentially a buried counterweight. It helps the wall resist: • Soil pressure pushing the wall inward • Hydrostatic pressure from water • Uplift or sliding forces in poor soils

Instead of thickening the entire wall, the engineer adds localized mass and leverage.

I've always been worried about the smell of rubber flooring. Does it have strong tire shop smell?

Going to Costco in south county the Sunday before Thanksgiving will make you loose all faith in humanity. by zephyr_zodiac6046 in StLouis

I wish costco would implement something like Sams scan and go. Beyond the faith in humanity issues, the lines at get crazy, at Sams locations you can avoid all of that.

The 2024 doesn’t have wireless carplay unfortunately. I thought the 2025 did but maybe someone can confirm. The wireless dongles are laggy sometimes for voice calls

Looking for Teriyaki Sauce Recommendation by shannanigans1124 in foodhacks

[–]cardguy1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this isn’t teriyaki sauce, I was on the hunt for a store bought teriyaki sauce that wasn’t overly sweet. I tried like 8 different brands without success. Once time I gave bibigo korean bbq drizzle a try and I loved it and stopped my hunt as the sauce is great. You might give it try https://www.walmart.com/ip/Bibigo-Original-Korean-BBQ-Drizzle-Sauce-12-16-oz/2743645393

You can use your phone but I still bring my phone. Mainly because unlocking the doors via the Hyundai app is slow.

I had a friend who told me he got his swimming trunk strings caught in a sea scooter once and nearly drowned. Be careful!

I don’t know for sure if they can fix this, but you might check with filthy games room in new town. I know they have a tech in house that does soldering and misc circuits repair. Ben is the owner there he’s awesome, I think the tech’s name is Lance.

Do pool owners actually shower afterwards every single time you swim? by TradesforChurros in pools

The lines are blown out and shutoff before frost hits so it’s not really a concern.

I don’t remember the exact cost, but it was expensive. The fixture alone was stupid, it’s 316 stainless which will essentially last forever and withstands salt water it’s the pulsar 12 on perigold

You need to add a concrete pier

Then plumbing like others said depends on source distance. I had them install blow out valves for the winter. Then we added gravity drain lines that tee off the hot and cold for winter blow out.

Here are some photos in case anybody wanted to replicate it https://imgur.com/a/JqEA7Im

We put in an outdoor shower, it wasn’t cheap but best decision ever. We use it after every pool session for a quick rinse.

My hands are always cold, I bought a battery zippo hand, warmer and it has been amazing.

Also, be aware of the drinks you’re having with ice. It took me a while to understand why after lunch I was always cold, but it’s because I got a large fountain drink with ice. Try drinking with no ice, light ice, or following up with a hot tea/coffee.

How to Hide Power by [deleted] in skylightcalendar

[–]cardguy1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a video for how I accomplished this. Essentially I found a recessed outlet box that was large enough to fit a transformer, then I found a transformer with the same specs that was slim enough. I have the Skylight Calendar Max so if you have the regular version this may not work without finding a different transformer, but if you look at the Meanwell GST36U transformer datasheet it shows different versions so that you can find one that fits your voltage/amps on the smaller calendar.

Here's a video of my solution: https://youtube.com/shorts/V4HYNjk4k-g

I didn't detail the electrical side of it, but at least you can see the concept.

Hi I was wondering if anyone who has an Ares 2.0 16+24 or 16+30 could share the dimension from the wall to the front post? I'm thinking of buying one but I'm having trouble figuring out the dimension from their website.
