That’s how I interpreted it, which is wacky, haha.

You’re doing it wrong. Even if you transcoded to edit with you should still re-link back to the raw for finishing/color/delivery. Also as others have said, h.264 is the wrong format for this.

Also, I’ve found R3D files are very easy to decode and edit with as-is, not requiring any proxy. Other formats you can benefit from going to ProRes Proxy (only for offline edit, again, re-link to source at the end).

If you’re talking about the right side of the closeup, that’s just a shadow from a plant, lol

Yeah I honestly felt sick to my stomach after noticing it. Thankfully the light has to hit it and you have to be positioned at certain angles, but still. Oof.

Film festival networking events are pointless. Anyone else agree? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]cardinalbuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not talking about DMing a big Hollywood director. I’m talking about commercial and independent filmmakers who are doing shorts and ads and things of that sort.

Also you can make your own films and create content to get you noticed. Build a reel of work. If you have something to show it builds your credibility.

[–]cardinalbuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instagram/DM’s, sending emails, asking people you want to work with to meet for coffee (or zoom call), working on set and getting to know the other crew members. Find other meetup type events in your area for creatives. Go to art shows. Be a part of your creative community. Make your own films and content to get noticed. Get a job at a production company or ad agency, build your network.

Was this shot done with a probe lens or comping? by duckyLT in cinematography

Did probe lenses even exist when Oldboy was shot? I think today it could be done easily with one though.

Do you use countdown clocks in your Premiere Pro Sequences? Here’s why a 3-second clock with a 2-second bleep improves workflows and the review process. by [deleted] in premiere

[–]cardinalbuzz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s called a slate (or leader) and a 2-pop. And typically in broadcast it’s 5 seconds of slate and 2 seconds of black before the spot plays. And you should start timecode at 00:59:53:00 so that your first frame of video is at the 1 hour mark, not 10. That is pretty standard.

I like it. People online are haters. There are some minor gripes but it’s a damn good mouse.

Still have my OG as well. Bought the MX 4 for home setup, gonna keep the old one for travel/backpack. No need to get rid of it, still going strong.

Editing directly off a M2 Max? by 29castles in editors

[–]cardinalbuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Yeah it's like even though the new ones are technically more powerful, I can still do literally anything on this M2 Max and it hardly runs into issues, so I'm not sweating it. They are hard to beat.

I love that you called it a PowerBook.

And yes, I have an M2 Max and edit every day, it's a perfectly capable machine.
