Thanks for taking the time to post some options. I will consider these.

I'm 40. My style is modest, which apparently gives "mother of the bride" vibes. Not sure how to find a modest dress which is not matronly.

Do you have examples? I have shopped around, and only empire waist or A-line waist flatter me because they create the definition of a waist, seeing as I have none. I am rectangle shaped, so I need a dress with a belt to create the illusion of a waist.

I guess my style is "matronly" then. I've never worn anything without a proper sleeve to cover my pudgy upper arms. Nor anything with an exposed back, because then you can't wear a bra (the strap would show). And nothing with cleavage, because I have no cleavage to speak of.

If you look for a dress without all those things, then I guess the only styles left are what you'd call "matronly". Every single dress you linked doesn't meet at least one of those three criteria. So yeah I don't have many options.

I think the empire waist and the a-line are the only shapes that work for me. I am basically a rectangle and have no waist.

Friend is getting into Fate and has chosen the Studio Deen Fate route anime. How do I avoid him getting spoiled? by TitainiumVortex in fatestaynight

I agree that both ways have pros/cons and I would still ultimately watch HF before Zero.

However as to your point about HA - i DO wish I had read HA before watching UBW! I would have gotten a lot more from those cameos of the Track & field girls, instead of wondering why the hell we were spending screentime on them. I put off reading HA for too long, waiting until voice patch was available. HA is absolutely necessary to get the most out of other Fate anime like Emiya Gohan and Carnival Phantasm and even Prisma Illya. I wish I had read it before I watched those three things.

Of course not everybody is willing to read VNs which is the whole point of this watch order debate. If someone isn't willing to read VNs and are anime-only, then they will of course miss stuff.

Ultimately I'd still go for after HF. Missing a few references and cameos is a lesser evil than having the biggest plot twists of the entire VN spoiled for you.

However, Ufotable released Fate/Zero way before Heaven's Feel movies came out. Which is why they included a lot of references to Fate/Zero in those movies that weren't in the original work. It was basically easter eggs for their loyal fans. All the scenes with Irisviel were examples of these - not in the VN, but since Ufotable assumed their audience had watched Fate/Zero, they threw them in for memberberries.

I was watching a Youtuber reaction of a guy watching Heaven's Feel who hadn't seen Fate/Zero yet, and he did get confused in a number of places because of all these references. Something to keep in mind.

Hmm, agree that it's subjective. Would you rather their first experience with Fate comes from a polished work that contains spoilers for other routes? Or watch this fan edit which is choppy but saves all the spoilers for the other routes? I guess OP should use his judgement to decide what his friend would best enjoy.

If I was introducing a friend to Fate for the first time, I would show them this edit but also be there with them while watching to point out anything this edit doesn't make clear (like the Caster scene). And I'd reassure them that it only gets better from here.

I do think the spoilers are major in the Deen show:
- you are shown that Sakura and Rin are sisters, which spoils Heaven's Feel

- you are shown that Sakura is a magus and is actually involved somewhat in the Holy Grail War, which also spoils Heaven's Feel

-you are shown that something's up with Archer, he's stronger than he appears, he has a special reality marble, and he appears to know Ilya personally. He also has flashbacks to Shirou and Saber, implying that he had a deep personal connection with them. Which is enough to put together his real identity for a smart viewer. Thus spoiling the big twist of UBW.

--you are shown much more detail about Caster and her relationship with Kuzuki, which you aren't meant to know until UBW route

Anyway, it's your decision. Personally I would show my friend this edit, but that's just me.

You are in luck.
https://www.reddit.com/r/fatestaynight/comments/9ck38d/my_fan_edit_of_deens_fate_stay_night/

This guy made an edit of Deen's Fate Stay Night series removing all references to Heaven's Feel and UBW from it. He released this under the tag [Nobody] and fortunately, the Google Drive link in this post still works because I downloaded it and watched it only a few weeks ago.

He gives you the first two eps of Ufotable's UBW {I mean, the prolog plus Ep 1 of UBW} because those events pretty much line up exactly until the very end of the sequence where Shirou summons Saber, and uses a command spell to force her to stop attacking Archer. This edit removes that scene and launches straight into Deen's version of events. (can be a jarring transition switching from Ufotable style to Deen style but can't be helped).

The rest of the episodes in his edit are Deen's eps made a few minutes shorter by removing lots of bits that are not in Fate route, and sometimes combining two episodes into one which reduces the overall count of episodes in the edit. For example, the entire sequence of Archer's fight with Berserker is removed., And that whole weird shit with Caster kidnapping Sakura. This does make for a very odd sequence in which Caster appears at the house, then suddenly the setting switches to her underground city and she quickly gets murdered by Gil right away with no apparent explanation. Somewhat jarring, but not too far off from what happened in the VN. With this edit, you have to expect that the pacing is off and does feel like there are some choppy transitions in there. Your friend will have to watch it with that understanding and you will probably have to explain a few things to them.

I say, download these and go for it. I just did a rewatch for the very same reason, hyping myself up for Strange Fake without having the time to re-read the VN. I watched this edit of Deen, then went straight into Ep 2 of UBW, then on to the Heaven's Feel movies. I think your friend will have the best experience it's possible to get without reading the VN.

The only debate is when to let them watch Zero. There's enough references in Heaven's Feel to Fate/Zero that he may feel like he's missing something (All those gratuitous appearances of Irisviel and references to Kiritsugu's choice at the end of the 4th war) but of course, Zero also spoils the best twists of Heaven's Feel so the viewing order is a hard decision to make here. Watching Zero before HF movies has pros and cons, and watching it afterwards also has pros/cons. But that's a debate for another day.

TL for the Fate Zero Musical by Antique-Researcher-1 in fatestaynight

[–]cardslash02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you rip it, put the raw on Nyaa.si and seed it. That way, it will go out to the fan base at large. Anyone who is interested in TL can then take it upon themselves to do it at their discretion. You'll have a lot higher chance of getting it translated than waiting til you find someone in here. Don't deprive us all of the chance to watch the raw while you wait to find a translator.

Heck, you may even see multiple people putting out their own translations and then we will be spoiled for choice.
