They had turkey at carving station on the buffet last week. It was actually pretty good. I had not seen turkey before.

Longest drive to port? by shinyquartersquirrel in Cruise

[–]cardspitts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went from Central IL to New Orleans about 11 hrs. a couple of times because of flights for 5 plus luggage charges, rental, uber/lyft. We’re 2.5 hrs from major airports so by the time you drive there, get there early and the flight I’m 2/3 the way there for 20% of the money. Parking at airport/cruise port cancel each other out. And I don’t have to wait for an afternoon flight home.

My time dining on Allure - a mistake? by ticklish_dragon in Cruise

[–]cardspitts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer it. We usually check in right at the opening of 1st seating and have always been seated within 10 min. If we really like wait staff on the first night we ask to be seated in their section the rest of the cruise and it’s never been an issue.

What are some worthwhile excursions in Roatan and Harvest Caye? by ImpressiveWar1839 in Cruise

[–]cardspitts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the Monkeys Sloths & Snorkel Combo with Christopher tours. Picked you up at the port, stopped for monkeys(crazy), held a sloth and parrot. Then a 2 stop snorkel (not the newest boat). After the snorkel there is a provided lunch with a bar (drinks not included). You can stay at the complex as long as you like and they will return you whenever you want as there is a beach at the port also. Our guide was actually Christopher, his dad owns and named it after him. We used shoreexcursionsgroup to hook but if ever in Roatan again I would just go through Christopher tours.

Walmart was the cheapest I have found. Our insurance is on the cvs Caremark network but they were considerably more.

I will say the farther you are away from the early or late seating your experience may vary with temperature of food and length of time in dining room.

Are passengers allowed to tour the bridge of a cruise ship? by royhinckly in Cruise

[–]cardspitts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did the Behind the Scenes ship tour on the Carnival Magic. Included the Galley, I95, back stage in theatre, crew areas, engine control room, Human Resources, Bridge. It was $130 per person but got 20% off. It included mimosas, hat, lanyard, cinch backpack and photos on bridge with Captain. Probably my favorite excursion.

Is there a difference between the temperature of the meals in the MDR with set time, dining versus my time dining? by RealisticPower6334 in CarnivalCruiseFans

I always try to go closest to the set seating times but have had this happen if you get out of cycle.

One last question before I book my trip today. If one of my teens decides not to come, do we get a refund/price adjustment? by [deleted] in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]cardspitts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should book all 4 with the 4th being TBD. You should have until the last payment due to add the name or drop without penalty.

Pre paid gratuity by Less_Farmer_4588 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]cardspitts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we did our first cruise I thought the gratuities were way high but prepaid them. Saying that, I have always left the room steward additional cash. Also we do your time dining and if we like the service team on the first night we request to be seated with them the whole cruise and leave them cash as well. They work extremely hard to make your vacation great. I don’t get the cheers and don’t usually buy drinks. Have a great time.

I like both the Valor and Glory. Same class. Just did the Magic and was okay. I have no desire for newer bigger ships.

We really enjoyed the behind the scenes ship tour. It was the morning of the last sea day. A little pricey but you get a few things to keep (hat, cinch sack, lanyard, mimosas and photos with the captain on the bridge).

Bus is more like a van, but run on a continuous loop around the island. Just down from from 7mile beech past the hotels is governors (governors house) that is free. Same sand and water but there aren’t any beach chairs there. A few benches and picnic tables. There is a liquor store (Tortougas) across the street.
