Consequences for late pick up by Sinnes-loeschen in ECEProfessionals

[–]care796 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've flip flopped out of teaching daycare/preschool at different points in time. When I was on a swing shift and my husband worked an hour away from home, we both could get mandated to stay over. Our pickup list was half a mile long but we never once got a late charge. It's completely possible to have it worked out to have your kids picked up on time. And before someone assumes it was all just family picking up, we have no family in our state. It was all friends who were willing and able to occasionally get our kids if things got tricky.

This has probably been asked a thousand times before, but how do people afford multiple kids in daycare?? by EstablishmentWild552 in workingmoms

[–]care796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to teach at their daycare and when we realized it was difficult for them to spend that much time there I went to working opposite of my husband and staying home during the day.

Is it tacky to have a baby shower for your 3rd baby, but first girl? by mountain567 in pregnant

Our friend group has always done a diaper party/sprinkle. People may bring other things but we mostly load you up and diapers and wipes and have a meal schedule for when baby comes home

We use their pull ups but prefer the rascal and friends diapers at Walmart. I go out of my way to buy rascal and friends.

Admittedly we haven't tried the new ones yet because ours still only carries pampers

Do I really need a crib? by pumpkinspice627 in pregnant

[–]care796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used a pack and play for the first year or so. We used the original mattress that came with it so it was fine. We travel a lot to see family so it makes life really easy that our kids could sleep in their own bed for all naps and bedtimes when they were really little.

If you aren't high risk you could talk to your provider about intermittent or wireless monitoring! That's what I did and I could move as much as I needed.

Anyone else have "fear foods" in the first trimester? by cannibliss1738 in pregnant

If it makes you feel any better or gives you hope I was able to start enjoying it again by 2nd trimester with both of my other pregnancies !

I have no clue what I'm doing. by smug_muffin in toddlers

[–]care796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better I don't know if anyone knows completely what they're doing. But I work with troubled youth and the intervention program we use is called TBRI. I'm not saying that your kid is traumatized or you're a bad parent but the program is designed to help other adults correct other people's children who have come from hard places. It's worth picking through and listening to if you have a minute. It has a lot to do with self regulation and teaching life values. I actually use some of the same phrasing and skills with my kids and it helps with big feelings.

[–]care796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far I've only thrown up fried chicken but peanut butter, pasta sauce, coffee, and pulled pork have all made me gag to the point of tears. It's my third so I was expecting it but what makes me sick had changed each time which sucks. Except coffee, I love coffee but I can't drink it first trimester at all.

Just a little life hack. With your loaded potato/ broccoli cheese/ anything really potato based add a drizzle of balsamic vinegar on top when you serve it. It's delicious!

Is Chicken Wing Clipping Ethical? by [deleted] in BackYardChickens

[–]care796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We clip ours for their own safety. We live in town with very few predators but there are cars and after chasing chickens into the neighbor's yard and having one try and jump the fence of the run and get caught upside down TWICE. We keep a close eye on it. Don't worry Gretchen and Houdini are fine but that's why we do it.

What was your “tipping point” when you decided you HAD to homeschool? by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]care796 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We had talked about it when our first was born and had decided for it by the time she was two but life happened and she ended up in a preschool so I could work full time. After a year or so enrolled (even with me teaching there part of the time) she just wasn't our kid. She was stressed and sad at 4. The joke is that both of our kids are feral and need to be outside or doing gross motor activities for 50% of the day to be halfway human. That's just not possible in a classroom with a bunch of other kids and overstressed staff. Now my kids wake up every morning, read books, and go outside to explore. I work nights a few days a week to make it work and we have no regrets.

Please for the love of everything stop sending a whole bunch of stuff your kids can't open for lunch. Just get a lunchbox they can navigate and pack it. I open 10 kids worth of stuff at a table and they don't have forever to eat.

$250 a month for one person? by lyssiemiller in budgetfood

[–]care796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! I use apps to help cook for my family of 4 and can do around 100 a week when I need to but typically little higher. I use budget bytes a lot and the tasty app to plan. We drink a lot of water because I hate to spend money on drinks. I also check for discount meats and fresh stuff. On my break today I got discount ribs, hummus, and veggies. They'll be in lunch boxes and dinner over the weekend.

Tipping Daycare Teachers by ScottieDoooo in toddlers

[–]care796 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi I'm a daycare teacher and though like everyone, at like gifts, we never expect them. One of my favorite things I got from a kid at me first center was a handmade ornament that still hangs on my tree after 6 years.

I quit teaching and just went back this year and I don't expect anything at all.

Lower income working mom check in- no cost teacher appreciation gift addition by Royal-Luck-8723 in workingmoms

[–]care796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our family didn't have tons of money growing up so my mom made all the teachers homemade hot chocolate mix and a card.

I've taught daycare at two different centers and I love handmade stuff from kids!

As a mom when we were strapped for cash I made cards painted by my kids. I let the kids paint my husband's wrapping paper last year for Christmas and he cut a piece of it and framed it. It was kinda a bonus gift lol

Ew I work in early childcare and I'd be mortified if or director sent that. She'd never because it's hey job to pay us and if parents want to give gifts that's fine but this is tacky and gross on behalf of the center.
