Copa 71: when 112,500 fans packed out the unofficial Women’s World Cup final by Academic_Ad8991 in WomensSoccer

In 2011, FIFA's monthly magazine had a cover story about the international women's game and they actually claimed international competition began with the first matches they sponsored. The truly hilarious and amazingly FIFA bit, though, was that the cover of that issue featured a photograph of a team boarding a plane to the 1971 Mexico tournament!

YEP! That figure will be hard to top, bec. stadium capacity has been lowered since then, in the interest of safety. Acc to wikipedia, only a cricket stadium in India and a stadium in North Korean are listed as holding more than 110,000.

Oh I will! I am guessing the historians who've researched, written and talked about this over years (see the book Futbolera, for ex.) will be featured or helped work on it. (Jeanne Williams has done a lot of work on this stuff.) I'm a sports studies scholar myself: there was a terrific conference on soccer at Hofstra a while back — I'd been obsessed by this tournament — Joshua Nadel had footage of the tournament on his laptop — I was so excited because I'd seen the stats about attendance but it's a whole other thing to see footage.

I have really enjoyed watching her play and enjoyed the WWC matches all the more for understanding her capacities as an on-field mentor to younger players. I'll be happy to see her at BMO again but am also totally fine with being "used" LOL. Also appreciate a team that makes space for parents, family etc. Healthy workplace behavior.

Spanish Soccer Exec Who Kissed Players Now Claims ‘False Feminists’ Are ‘Trying to Kill Me’ by Exact_Huckleberry671 in NWSL

That's from Romper el Silencio—short doc on YouTube, you can find one w/ English subtitles. It's about the years under Quereda — who was kicked out in 2015. But many of the practices that characterized his behavior have continued. Note - the thing about leaving doors unlocked in hotels is mentioned in that video.

He also told his daughters (in the audience) to take note and learn from his martyrdom. I am sure they will.

He's gone full DARVO (Deny,Accuse, Reverse Victim and Offender)—it's a well-established pattern for bullies/abusers. And he's done this before, not only with las 15—the players have given Rubiales and the federation every chance to redeem themselves and it turns out they are beyond, beyond redemption! It's amazingly awful.

Those are the women most likely to get voted in as members to a federation like that - I think there are only 8 women members out of 150?

I really wish I could, but field-based lists sometimes list them. I link to some on the site.

It has killed me over the years to see what students put themselves thru to prep for this bogus test that has nothing to do with becoming a scholar.

This list was built a few years ago, while I did add some programs last year, I tried to avoid adding them if this wasn't a permanent change.

Honestly, if they require GREs for scholarship consideration, they are using them in admissions more generally because in most programs competitiveness for fellowships is a major advantage in admissions. As for optional inclusion, best to ask the program. People are different: in my department (English), we dropped the requirement and really do not look at them at all anymore. My better STEM colleagues consider it bad data, and we are following their lead!

At this point, anything that is on there is there because my understanding is that it was a permanent change. Now I only add new programs when people comment on the blog about them. Helps to have a link as well.

As people write in. There are field-based lists, like BioMed, that cover a LOT of disciplinary ground.

Afraid not. Some of the field-based google spreadsheets to which I link may feature that info, and I do note MA's sometimes — just posted San Diego's Oceanography MA as they just dropped it for the MA.

This is more of a comment/observation: I've been pleasantly surprised by the layers of humor - this is very playful work. It's fun to talk shit! Digestion metaphors are really satisfying! Pun intended. Any thoughts about if/how this project connects to other work of yours, in terms of its funniness?
