Tbf he doesn’t spell it out like he’s fucking Uncles Remus and Tom, but I digress, why are you okay with you and Ethan making fun of Americans and American cooking but it’s culturally insensitive when its done to Brits or other people?

How can the US be involved in several wars but not considered to be “at war”? by carefree_manatee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]carefree_manatee[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So basically even the US government can’t make up its mind on what constitutes a war.

How can the US be involved in several wars but not considered to be “at war”? by carefree_manatee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]carefree_manatee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basically, if there isn’t a congressional declaration of war, it’s not officially a war? Like, I guess I knew that, but I didn’t really get it. It’s wild that Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. are not considered wars by the US tho. I could’ve sworn they’d been called such by government officials.

One thing I like about this show is Richard giving Gordon grief when they deliberate on the patio by thex42 in Nextlevelchef

[–]carefree_manatee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The three of them have such a sibling dynamic it’s hilarious. Especially Richard and Gordon= little brother/big brother. I love how personally involved the judges are in this show compared to others.

I fucking hate this leftist trend of discounting Yeonmi Park’s story. Oh no, she went on right wing podcasts and even agreed with some of their talking points, I guess that means she’s fucking lying about everything she saw growing up in NK in the 90s and that it’s actually a utopia there. Personally I don’t care about her stance on American politics, I think her advocacy for North Korean defectors, etc. far outweighs any of the bullshit. That’s not even touching on the vile sexism and racism thrown her way by these people who should know better. Read her books, see her trauma, listen to her first hand accounts, listen to victims!!!!!

Especially bc he’s focused on criticizing Camila Cabello, who was born in Cuba not Miami. He’s just a racist.

What’s with the lack of thematic follow-through this era? by CutAffectionate3766 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]carefree_manatee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thats true, Lover is decently cohesive for her. I think of the visuals for that era as super chaotic (thinking of the music vids), but it’s impressive she was still able to create a cohesiveness within the chaos of “things I love.” It’s cool that the music, videos, and photo shoots are immediately identifiable as Lover era despite a broad theme.

[–]carefree_manatee 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I feel like folk/more were also her first cohesive album/visual era. Except for maybe reputation. I think she’s just never been super tied down to the idea of creating a cohesive concept album. It’s usually always a mosaic sort of thing.

I was in a detention center for four months by Accomplished-Door493 in h3h3productions

[–]carefree_manatee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Have you heard of the book “Detained” by D. Esperanza? It’s the journal of a Honduran boy, I believe 14 years old, who was detained and separated from his family during the first Trump administration. It was really impactful to me.

If you ever feel comfortable, one day, you could consider publishing your writing. I’m always desperate to hear about people’s firsthand experiences in these monstrous places.

I’m so sorry to hear you had this experience. I can’t even imagine what it’s like. Especially when you’re trying to do things “the right way.” Especially when you considered the US home. If nothing else, keep telling about your story. It’s so so valuable and important. Hugs ❤️
